Baddiel saying 22.00 minutes in that this joke was acceptable at the time. It wasn't. I remember being a child of a white family and being told by my Dad that it wasn't.

One question, what’s Franks take on this now, does he feel the same as David? and by the way, Jason behaved so eloquently during this interview, well done!!! I’ve just noticed the hat with Lee on it and a pot plant behind it, was that deliberate?
@Globaldave1970Ай бұрын
I didn't know about this. I watched a montage and what got me was the fact that they did it so much. And it was always the same joke. And it wasn't very funny. Baddiel has come and faced the music, and he does take credit for that. Bit late, I know.

Fair play Jason.. 22.50...cracks him right on the chin..😂😂😂..you can tell Baddiel is pissed with that laugh...as a supposed intelect its the right move.your book is shit lad..even as a kid i never liked Fantasy Football...always thought Skinner and himself came across as tools...Baddiel is a right hypocritical twat though too....dripping in victimhood....full of shite

I think it's somewhat admirable for Baddiel to address this face-to-face, and I think he genuinely seems sorry, but this tying in with the release of his own documentary on racism is pretty poor. I'm glad Jason didn't give him an easy pass in this interview.

One forgets the show roped in the legend Jeff astle to do blackface on the show .Jeff looked uncomfortable at the time.Baddiel was looking for likes & TV ratings back then and again similarly he got his book to flog 25 years later The comment that "he knew Jason was a great footballer is totally shameless & scraping the barrel But again he's got a book to flog and needs must .

It was so disgusting back then - Baddiel and Skinner did it back then to further their careers and likewise Baddiel now, Jason Lee was targeted and he describes it very well.

Welcome to the land of double standards. We're all supposed to be inclusive, aren't we? Baddiel and Skinner were inclusive in the sense that they took the piss out of everyone equally without fear or favour. But now the rule is that white/Jewish people can't take the piss out of someone who happens to be black, because that would be racist. So what this means in practice is that black people are excluded from being the subject of comedy on an all-purpose comedy show like Fantasy Football. Which isn't inclusive or diverse. Getting a black actor in to play the part in the sketch wouldn't solve the problem either. Humour is an expression of our common humanity. If you start erecting walls and fences in comedy it is actually counterproductive to your claimed goal of inclusivity. If only black people are allowed to do comedy about black people then comedy has been ghettoised. You might thing that's the right result and it's worth it, but you've ruined the element of common humanity that makes comedy a special artform.

I am just finding this and its a great listen. For me its the female football kit that was a real interest. I manage / coach a girls under 12s team and constantly learning about how i can support my girls and team. Its always changing but so much more needs to be done. My girls are going through so many changes and we have to support them. Amazing how many grassroots clubs do not even have good toilets for the girls going through changes to be able to use and get fresh. There is many of us men out there trying to change things for our girls teams and here is hoping in the future for them, its better.

Have to say I like David Bladdiel and I think this actually is genuine and should be received as it is intended as an apology but the main take away from this is how impressive Jason Lee is, not that he shouldn't be but I just wasn't aware of his work but, hearing how articulate he is and the work he has done and is doing in the game is comprehensive and informed.

They took the piss out of a wide range of footballers worldwide. This was peak lad culture, before GQ magazine got taken over by Beta males. They ripped Ray Parlour for his long ginger hair and purposely confused him with female TV gardener Charlie Dimmock. Peter Beardsley was Quasimodo, then that Leeds GoalKeeper portrayed as a Gorilla. But black hairstyles are off limits......bald heads used to be mocked until blacks made them cool, now they're off limits too ! Anyway the pendulum has swung, with not very good black women being shoved onto men's football shows on 6 figure salaries !

Back in the day Jason Lee was a punchline, I was 12/13 years old at the time and I wish I had something pushing back against the racism and bullying that was behind that stuff. Things like this remind me to not take progress for granted.

Not that it's insincere, but there's a very particular embarrassed micro-aggression from Baddiel, which is typical of someone who has to endure a calling-out and is not comfortable with being explained to. What is happening is that Baddiel is not pleased with how things are unfolding and tries to position himself in a light that he thinks is best for him (16:40) which fundamentally demonstrates a reluctance to accept his past behaviour, and thus shows that he's has priorities ahead of truly, earnestly learning about Jason's perspective and the tremors of his behaviour . "Jason, you don't need to explain any of that to me". But he does. That's the point.
@NirthUK6 ай бұрын
This man is a colossal joke, his apology is so insincere, he had racist sketches and jokes for years and the only reason he's apologising is that he made a documentary about anti-Semitism, and doesn't want to be called out for being a racist ignorant person himself. If he was so honest about his "guilt" he would have apologised years ago, but to play the "victim card" he's got to pre-empt any possible rebuttal or meme mocking his hypocrisy. He spread a harmful stereotype of black people, mocked them to a level that would never have been acceptable if the same had been done with regards to Jewish people, so in that sense David is wrong, "Jews Do Count", they even have their own term for racism called anti-Semitism.

So, at 42 minutes Jason asks about "doing the work", and David mentions he is focused on antisemitism. I'd love to hear if he has broadened that out, considering 1 year on, with the destruction of Gaza. I'd guess David would probably have massive empathy for Palestinians who are currently being "othered" and referred to as "sub-human" by government ministers in Israel. Not sure you can be concerned exclusively with one group that is victimised, "first they came for the .....".
