It's also normal in British coal-mines. There are designated man-riding belts, but you certainly don't sit upright on them unless you want to get your head taken off. You lie flat on your stomach, and look out for unexpected dangers, e.g. a roofing sheet that's become dislodged and is hanging down across the top of the belt. And it's not unknown for workers to (illegally) ride on top of the coal on a belt that's not designated. As with everything else underground, there are safety rules set by management, but if you follow them you can't meet the management's production targets.

Great animation but an important part is wrong! The mistake starts at 0:20, where dirt is building up: the video shows the belt detracking to the pulley side with the smallest diameter (i.e. where is no dirt). Correct would be: the belt detracks to the roller diameter with the largest diameter, i.e. the side where the dirt is located.

As a conveyor belt vulcanizer with 15 years experience; your splicing is taking too much time.how may times you are removing plies. We normally taking only three times if 4 ply. And also not giving bias for splice.

i work as a conveyor belt technician and have worked with belt splicing for almost 10 years and i'm sorry but i this must be the most ridiculous technique i have ever seen (sorry for being blunt).....and a splice that i 90 degrees or close to that is just stupid! you risk to much tension on the splice every time the splice is passing the turning point of the conveyor. room for improvement.
