I have so many now, I rarely use most of them. I’d like to get down to 10; which means 40 must go? At least then I’d remember what I have.

Really good information but could’ve done with less forceful interruptions. Let your guest finish their thought before interjecting with your anecdotes

Firstly, I am a fishing guide based in the famed trout fishing town of Turangi on the Central Plateau North Island, New Zealand, I use Trout Hunter tippet, exclusively, because of its fine diameter, the set up I use mostly roughly 12 feet long, I start with approximately6 feet of 10lb tied to the euro line, at the end of the 6 ft, I use a sighter indicator ( the is a high vis nylon 10lbs with a micro rings tied at both ends, approximately 6 inches long ) then I add another 6ft length of 8lb Trout Hunter, and another micro ring which I fix the dropper tag and 6lb tippet, I use the indicator as a depth gauge only, I use this in smaller and bigger rivers. The tippet weights for me over here don’t change because of our fish size, but the tippet weights can change for the environment your fishing. I been teaching Euro fishing for the last 10 years, I teach effective and affordable, as you say Tim, keep it simple. Peter Trout Junkie.NZ

What a treasure! 17 yrs ago my 12 yr old son helped him at a clinic he put on. He showed how to cast using my son. He gave my son a catalog after the show to order a custom Richardson fly box , which my son had him sign later!

I understand why you want that loop out of there. I do the same thing for the simple reason that’s not my knot. Years ago I wanted to learn the blood knot and I had gotten a new rod and reel, at that time I knew nothing about the nail knot, I thought the preferred method was a blood knot so I went down to the local fly shop, I’ve known the owner for years but he wasn’t there but there was another guy there and he was about 75 and been a guide for years so I thought he will know how to attach all of my knew lines so I told him I just needed my backing attached to my fly line and it seemed he was kinda lost but got it done w a huge loop knot then I asked okay well here is where I was wanting the blood knot, he said o no we have a better way and grabbed these loop things that he put on the fly line and took a lighter which blew my mind and tightened the thing up like those Chinese finger lock things then it had a loop on it, I said what the hell is that? So I have to spend another $8 here for those things when I was just wanting to learn the blood knot. I got home and cut that loop system off and learned the nail knot with no tool and went on my way. I expected a lot more from an old guy that’s been guiding people down the rogue river for a 100 years. I can’t trust a machines knot or who ever tied it and as far as I’m concerned their knots might be stronger but I don’t care. Good Fishin to ya.

Thanks for the story, Randy, and I don't recommend those add-on loops. Like many others, I do recommend the nail knot and blood knot. If you're able to tie it without a tool, even better! Tim www.troutandfeather.com
