Cal, so true! Being asian American having lived/worked in Asia 22+ yrs, I find it so true! ‘3rd World’ is interpretive as while the US is considered ‘first world’, there’s much homelessness, violence and racial discrimination as well poverty

I feel that Thailand is developed only in the center of Bangkok. However, Thailand is a fascinating country and the nature is very beautiful.

About half years ago I booked a grab win motocycle for a shortish ride (2km). He stopped half way at a red light and started show pics of his son and beg for money. So I pick up my phone and could not cancel the ride while it is on going… next I was just hop down and start walk away. It took about 2 minutes and he came after me and ssay sorry.

No, Thailand is not considered a "third world" country. Thailand is classified as an upper-middle income country by the World Bank, with a GDP rank of 24th globally. This places Thailand firmly in the high-middle income category, not a "third world" designation. Furthermore, Thailand is a member of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) Development Centre, which includes many advanced and developing economies. This indicates Thailand is recognized as a developing economy with potential for further growth and development. Thailand has some current problems that it is working to solve. This is normal for any developing economy as it progresses. The key point is that Thailand is not considered a "third world" country based on its current economic status and classification. It is an upper-middle income, developing economy with plans to reach developed country status by 2037 through continued economic and social reforms. Overall, Thailand's economic situation and trajectory are quite positive compared to the connotations of the outdated "third world" label.

I’m from Singapore and I visited all countries in SEA. Thailand is much more developed than the rest of ASEAN members and if you call them a 3rd world country, then the rest of Asean members (except my country Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia) are 6th world man…

Singapore is very beautiful as well. I find the third world category very inaccurate generally. Cheers!
Getting political will get you a lot of subscribers of your ilk. As a visible minority in Canada for the last 48 yrs, I have seen the conservatives sell us down the river and they didn’t have to dress up as blackface or in Indian garb. Brown paper bag PM Mulroney (caught with US$300,000 in a brown paper envelope in NY)gave us NAFTA and sent our jobs to Mexico. Harper rested on his laurels and did nothing to get energy East or West. It was Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Justin’s father that opened the doors to immigration. I suspect this is what irks you.

Very strange take. My video is criticizing the ethnocentric worldview that places the west above non-western countries, which is evident on both sides of the political spectrum... despite claims otherwise. I suspect your attack on me has more to do with your own biases rather than anything that I actually said.

You can't compare the US with Thailand or any country in SE Asia on crimes. The law here is a lot tougher than the US. If you get caught on stealing, you would be sent to 5 years in a re-education and hard labor camps. The US, on the other hand, is just a slap on a wrist.
@thebangkokguide4 сағат бұрын
This is true. But you can still compare the living environment, regardless of the legal differences.
Bangkok is definitely a more modern city than London. Just look at the train. Food prices in Thailand are more than 10 times cheaper than (in America or Europe) and so are accommodations.. You can live like a king.. (with an amount of 1500 - 2000 dollars per month in Thailand ) Thailand is the most suitable place to retire.. With the number of convenience stores such as 7-11 open 24 hours, there are more than 10,000 branches

I find that the quality of life in Bangkok is excellent. That being said, I earn a western salary and it's definitely a lot more challenging on a local salary. I think the geographic arbitrage is one of the main advantages. Thanks for your input!

The terms "First World" (the US and its allies), "Second World" (the USSR and its allies), and "Third World" (countries not aligned with the First or Second World) were coined during the Cold War as political categories, not necessarily indicative of development levels. When considering development levels, Thailand is classified as an upper-middle-income economy with a booming industrial and service-oriented sector, showing significant progress in social and economic development.
In a way westerners are correct when they categorize each country as a first world or a third world using unbiased criteria such as Per Capita Personal Income or PCI and GDP because numbers do not lie. Are western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the US fraught with issues, yes they are. I have traveled the world and have seen many places so let's just say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else outside of the places I've just mentioned. Compared to many places in this world they're like beacons of hope surrounded by a sea of corrupt and failed states where the little guys have no voice.

It is not a 3rd world country, but not a 1st world country either. It's still a developing country that will probably stop developing in the next 10 years or sooner.

Living in the US, typically people who call Thailand a third world country are either uneducated or never travelled outside of the US. They just don’t know many things in the world.

Just googled and took a look at Thailand GDP per capita in 2023 from IMF, I would say an Upper middle-income country is more suitable word. There're about 200 countries and Over 100 countires are poorer than Thailand in term of GDP per capita.(World Bank categorizes Thailand as an Upper middle-income economy)
@user-rt4fw5fk3uКүн бұрын
That 3rd world name is actually misunderstood by most of who use it. During the Cold War, that was used to depict the countries that are neither NATO, nor Soviet block. So, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Finland and most of the “developing” non-aligned countries were called third world.

Hi, how about the liquor they sell at famous night clubs? Once I went to this xxxxx club and ordered about 4 shots of black label with coke in different intervals but I didn't feel anything out of it, sadly I saw the bartender opening it up from the black label bottle itself.. For a moment I thought that this could be a scam.. Any idea on this one please 🙏🏻
