While I understand the two may perhaps go hand-in-hand, when you say the Argus lenses look “cleaner” than the Vespids, do you mean cleaner from a strictly technical standpoint (chromatic aberrations, color accuracy, barrel distortion, etc.) or cleaner as in more “clinical” in terms of a more overall subjective look and feel? Fantastic video by the way!

More from a technical stand point, sharper, less CA, I don't think they look that clinical.

@@EdProsser I agree with you on this. Sadly a lot of people will miss out on the S9 simply due to the confusion of the launch. Fun, that the people invited, ALL take photos whether personally, professionally or marketing wise and upload and share. Brand through Social Media, create and post short form content on TikTok, KZfaq, etc. and certainly would like to save time from getting to a place to edit and such… ALL of them are in essence Content Creators, and that’s how it was marketed 😅 but the people invited started cataloguing the S9 against other cams not in the category. 🤣. I should not have watched this video :) Your review about the ranger s35 was the reason why I am now about to pull the trigger on the ranger s35 series by laowa. Seeing how soft it seem, specially around minute 5.23 is killing me :) I had the s35 ranger in hand and tested it for a wee bit. Did not realise it that much. Is it really that soft soft? They are not really on the market in Germany .. but I really need something longer than my sigma 18-35. Thank you for this great videos you put out Ed.

Remember that is wide open on the rangers and no lens performs it's best wide open, and at 200%. The rangers are plenty sharp esp. once you stop down. You only noticed these diffs when doing side by sides, I have used the rangers on lots of pro work and they are perfect for me.

For anything like narrative, documentary or work that has even a little bit of intention or planning I'd still use my S1H. I think this is just an awesome fun way to actually just bring a full frame camera everywhere you go without the neck pain of the S1H. And I've really missed that in my life since going full frame! I bought an FX3 this weekend and decided to sell the RED Komodo-X because the difference between the picture quality is not 2x and if you know how to expose a Sony, you will get almost the same picture. I took two identical frames, brought them to the same exposure and contrast as a result you could only notice the difference in sharpness of the picture, because on the Komodo-X I used the Vespid 40mm and on the Sony GM 50mm. Before the K-X I had a V-Raptor and I can say that the cinematic level of the picture started with that camera. So, my final decision is the FX3 for gimbal shooting and in situations where I need autofocus or want a super compact setup. And for using the DZOFILM Vespid and Blazar Remus, I'll be using the BMPCC 6K FF. And owning two cameras that give me maximum flexibility is cheaper than having one Komodo-X. This may sound like I'm saying RED cameras are bad, but they're not. It was very hard for me to admit that I get more options and usability for less money than owning a RED given that I've despised Sony cameras for the past two years and thought I'd never stop shooting with REDs. Upgrading from Komodo OG to Komodo-X only makes sense if you want to have 80 fps or use V-Mount batteries directly. No other benefits will be gained by doing so.
@EdProsser3 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing! You've got to find the right camera for you whatever that might be and sounds like you ended up in the right place! I've shot on the FX3 and FX6 a fair bit and I personally am not a fan with working with Slog nor do I love operating those cameras. But they are very capable and if I had unlimited money I'd definitely pick an FX6 up for super run and gun work. Enjoy your FX3!
@user-2fkheS6COV1UKE63 күн бұрын
@@EdProsser I agree with you, I still hate the Sony menus, lack of False Color, Shutter Angle, no RAW format in any form. RED and Blackmagic has had all of this since day one. But Cine EI in the latest firmware from Sony helps solve this problem and adjust exposure using only Zebras at 94%, just do ETTR all the time.
@FelixCervantes20 сағат бұрын
I use a DJI Focus Pro to get autofocus on a gimbal now. That solved a major drawback of the Komodo. The global shutter, the RED R3D files are why I stay with the Komodo. I shot a difficult scene in Venice recently where half of the scene was in sunlight and the rest was in shade. As you get more experience with grading RAW, the more you can do with the images. I noticed that my Sony camera is getting used less and less now, even if it is easier to use, the image quality from RED is outstanding. Yes, on a fixed image, you can get a Sony to match a RED, but the RED starts to shine when you don’t have an optimal shooting situation.

The s9 is a fine portable camera that can produce good looking photos and video. As long as you don't ever need more than 15 consecutive min of video, or will ever use a flash, or are savvy enough to navigate flicker issues indoors, or don't shoot anything moving too fast. The problem with the s9 is that there are cameras that do all of that for the same money (used s5ii) or depending on what you're willing to compromise on, for less or much less. I personally don't have any dog in this fight, but i wish we'd stop acting like asking for $1500 for a camera with some serious drawbacks is not a lot of money
@EdProsser6 күн бұрын
I mean I literally mention the price in the first sentence of the video! It sits in a very confusing space for sure. The issue is it gives you so much camera in a little package where I think they could have stripped a lot of the pro features out and made it a lot cheaper. Record limits aren't so bad to be honest unless you're shooting long interviews. It's capable of capturing an amazing image for the price too. It's just whether a casual shooter needs all those features in a small package. That's what makes it confusing and interesting. Price wise I just paid £1200 for a USED Fuji X100V yesterday which has next to no pro video features, 8 bit video, no ibis and no anamorphic features... I don't think I'll be buying an S9, unless it drops in price, but I do think it'll sell very well.
@pedrorrodriguez16 күн бұрын
@@EdProsser i didn't mean to offend. But if there's push back against the camera it's because people find it overpriced, since it does nothing particularly better than other cameras. If you want the same but better, for the same price, buy the s5ii. If you want film simulations, fuji ones are much better than the lut app. If you want a better photo camera, pretty much anything with mechanical shutter and hot shoe will be better. If you want good ibis, any of the latest lumix cameras is as good if not better... Seems like a half baked money grab by panasonic. It can produce nice images and video, because pretty much any camera these days does.
