This is an excellent video, and I have never been on a 14.5m bus other than the STA bus featured in a previous video, which I have just commented on. Does this bus have a rear "steer" axle as opposed to a "tag" axle? I really enjoyed this video. Well done 👏 👍
@coolsoap8
@coolsoap8 13 сағат бұрын
Hey John, thanks for stopping by! This bus does have a rear steering axle. CDC has 3 types of 14.5m buses (excluding CDi) those being the L94UB 14.5m, K310UB 14.5m and this type, the K280UB 14.5m. The K310UB and K280UB variants both have rear steering however the L94UB version does not, making it basically restricted only to the city routes whereas the other two types are more versatile. I quite like riding a 14.5m, as they’re just a big normal bus rather than a bendy. I’m glad you enjoyed my video John and I’ll try to make more STA bus content if possible. Thanks John 😊

@coolsoap8 you're very welcome 👍 thanks for the information, I appreciate it. I am happy learning about the non STA vehicles and services as my knowledge is limited in that field. However, I will possibly bore you with my stories of STA, but I do like your adventures into the STA realm.

@coolsoap8 Thanks 😊 I have many stories, and I will tell them as I react to each of your videos. STA was an exceptional organisation, but they made many mistakes on their way to expansion, which ultimately led to their demise.

I 100% agree. Imagine being a GOVERNMENT ORGANISATION and losing your GOVERNMENT CONTRACT to private companies because they can do it better 🤣 Everything started going downhill as soon as the red stripe disappear, it was such a shame what happened to the STA…

I somehow missed this video when it was released. I have driven this bus in service, and I have worked with Jonathan at State Transit. These buses were controversial when first introduced as they contravened the regulations regarding the length and width of public passenger vehicles. Westbus had purchased 14.5m buses but were unable to register them and therefore kept them in storage. STA was given an exemption and started to bring them into service but was required to test them on various routes as to their suitability and then apply for a permit to operate on the selected routes. Westbus and the Bus and Coach Association appealed and were then granted permission to register and operate their 14.5m buses but also needed to have their routes approved. The Westbus 14.5m vehicles were originally tapered inwards at the rear to lessen the possibility of tail swing damage. The STA vehicles were speed limited, but they had a feature that could switch to highway diff and therefore override the speed limiter and reach speeds of 100klph or more. The rear axle was a "tag" axle, and for weight distribution and not a drive axle. I enjoyed driving with the senior driving instructor along the many routes to test for suitability and quickly found routes that were not suitable. Excellent video, well done 👏 👍

Thanks for sharing your story John! Westbus’ original 14.5m buses have long since been withdrawn, with one in preservation and another STILL sitting out the back of Foundry Road depot. I could imagine the Oranas were super futuristic when they were new, and they’ve aged incredibly well for a now 31 year old design! I remember seeing the tri-axle Oranas all the time when I was little since I grew up in the Botany area, and it was so nice being able to ride one again. Don’t be shy to share your stories as I love interacting with my viewers and I enjoy a good read especially when I learn from it. Thanks for sharing your 14.5m history and of course thanks for watching John, glad you enjoyed it 😊

CDC NSW is the only operator to have the most tri axle buses, whilst the other being Transdev John Holland only has one.

Yes CDC has a very large number of tri-axles. Transdev’s one is 2108, which is externally identical to CDC’s K310UB with the exception of the STA livery being applied on 2108.

Hmm, so I guess when cdc took over ku ring gai depot they switched around some buses with their hill district depots… is it just because the upper north shore was short of buses? I noticed cdc seem to switch things around between depots a lot more than other private bus companies…

If I’m not mistaken Mt Kuring-gai depot had quite a few high floors that got decommissioned due to DDA regulations. My guess is that the B10BLEs were transferred from the hills district to replace the missing high floors at Mt Kuringai.

Unlike buses where you don’t know what type will operate certain services, each trip of the day has a scheduled train type. For example, let’s say a 9:27 City Circle service is operated by a K set one day, it’ll be operated by a K set every single day. So if you see a K set that exact run that it’s doing will be done by a K set in future.

I did enjoy the sarcasm at the beginning of this adventure filming our wonderful alphabet fleet. I don't know of anyone, even of my vintage, that takes their "will" trainspotting, but after your massive whistle jump, it was good to see you had the "will" to continue. You captured amazing shots of A's B's T's and V's, and yes, Will that was a D at the end. I enjoyed the NR's and the SSR's and I especially enjoyed my "R's" on the couch watching this excellent video on my TV. Well done 👏 👍

I’m glad someone got some entertainment out of the video’s beginning! I wasn’t expecting to see as big of a variety as I did, having seen all but 2 types of EMUs in NSW. The Tangara horn was unexpected, since it started moving before it honked (normally they honk before they start moving) and I believe it was the country horn which would be louder than a normal country horn since T109 used to be an interurban G set. I’m glad you enjoyed this video so much and thanks for watching John 😊
@aussiejohn5835
@aussiejohn5835 10 күн бұрын
@coolsoap8 you're very welcome 👍 you are correct because the purpose of blowing the horn is to alert people of the trains impending movement and by blowing the horn after moving could cause a different impending movement of a human kind. 💩😂
