So interesting "musicians at bethel." What religion are you talking about? Jehovah's Witnesses call their headquarters Bethel. It's a book publishing factory. Bethelites are the factory workers. Now it's a televangelism film studio in New York. Tell us more about your bethel.

Its a charismatic Christian movement out of Redding, CA. With Bethel meaning "house of god" so many churches ends up using it 😂

@@PhilDrysdale If only Jehovah's Witnesses were "charismatic," they would retain more than 33% of their members. Their version of Bethel looks a lot like slavery through coersion. It would be an interesting topic to find out about all of the different Bethels in the world and how they are used by a given faith group.

We aren’t Christians because we’re trying to avoid hell, just because we believe in hell. We believe in Christ and worshiping Him because we want an eternity with him and a personal relationship with him. This is a bad teaching because it includes no scripture and your ideas exclude completely the scripture. Not one scripture did you use to back up your ideas.

Absolute nonsense and falsities. The only source of spiritual truth is the Word of God. There is no “deconstructing” what God clearly declares and commands. Christians are bound by His Word. If you “deconstruct” the key tenants of the faith, you are not a Christian. There is zero logical flow or basis for deconstruction. Why encourage people to turn against the faith that saved them? Why not be a source of encouragement for seeking Biblical answers and pointing back to ultimate truth - the Gospel of Christ? Repent and believe, brother. You will be held accountable for leading people astray with deplorable messages like these.

Keith, Phil, I went to BIOLA and you’re right about Talbot! What got me about the dispensational stuff is that it could explain part but not all their speculations. When you started speaking on “well, some vengeance must be paid” my mind thought of two things, 1 what did Jesus do on the cross, and 2 think about the land owner that hired the workers throughout the day and they paid them all the same which was what was the agreed amount(Mt20 I think). It’s like the pharisees expected more as they’d been at it the longest, but they got the same as the gentiles, that had only worked an hour. Amazing, pharisees in biblical times are about the same as today’s Mr Fattypants!

kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zsl9qMuJ3LSoeXk.html "You're never going to find an evangelical church that's predominantly black". I'm going to give Phil the benefit of the doubt and say this was just a slip of the tongue, but this seems like an absurd assertion. If you define "evangelical" as the white-bread, middle and upper-middle class prosperity theology, then yes, it will be "slim pickings" to find an affluent, upper-middle class black church in America, but it has nothing to do with what version of Christianity is involved. You will be hard-pressed to find affluent, upper-middle class black anything because of the huge wealth disparity. This is a direct result of America's entire history, not the churches themselves or "the church" as a whole.
@PhilDrysdale

I hear what you are saying Iconify. I think what you are highlighting is that there are a lot of overlaps between the evangelical denominations and churches that are largely comprised of Black people. I spend most of my time these days in the weeds of research so I tend to work with the black and whites categories that often coma with that. In religious groups denominational affiliation is generally categorised in this way. Broadly speaking there are a few denominations that have majority Black membership and leadership but on the whole they all fall within a category generally labelled as the "Historically Black Church" very, very rarely will you find such churches are found within the broader denominational category of evangelical. In fact last I remember looking at this (and it has been a while so forgive my lack of source or exact numbers) but I believe it was around 95% of non-white evangelicals were found in majority white evangelical churches or they themselves attended other non-evangelical churches. Hopefully that clarifies a little about where I was coming from. I was primarily referring to the denominational category rather than the core beliefs of that denomination of which a huge percentage of protestants would believe the majority of them.
@iconifyme
@iconifyme Жыл бұрын
@@PhilDrysdale It doesn't really clarify it. I guess I'm confused as to how you are defining "evangelical" and which denominations you consider evangelical. Your reply doesn't really explain that. We may simply be using different definitions. I would define "evangelical" as a categorical term that describes a particular theological view that one is supposed to share one's faith with the explicit intent of winning converts. It is also widely accepted that "the Bible as the inerrant and inspired word of God" is a defining attribute of evangelicalism but I'm not sure I think this is a strict requirement. I've encountered plenty of Christians who don't necessarily believe the Bible is perfect but who would, by any other measure, be considered evangelical. My other concern is "who determines who is and isn't evangelical"? Ask any conservative Christian in the south and they will, almost to a person, say they are evangelical. Your definition seems to be much more narrow than what I am using but I could be mistaken in that conclusion. The term itself has taken on all kinds of overtones especially given the blurring of lines between evangelical church leaders and politics. I won't reply further until I'm certain what you mean by "evangelical". We may simply not be using the terms the same.

@@iconifyme a great resource for this would be Pew's breakdown of denominations... if you keep scrolling down you will see denominations that are defined as evangelical and in turn can infer which ones in turn are not. www.pewresearch.org/religion/2015/05/12/appendix-b-classification-of-protestant-denominations/

Absolutely loved this conversation. I grew up in the church but lost my faith around the age of 20. However, I've always loved good, intelligent, and provocative 'God talk'. Started listening while on my afternoon stroll. After about 15 minutes I nearly switched to another conversation. However, only a few minutes more went by and I began to enjoy. I particularly liked the story about the soldier, sword drawn, storming into a room and confronting a young pregnant girl, holding the hand of a smaller child. The warrior is thinking about stabbing, then Jesus walks into the room. The image of that scene allowed me to sum up Stephen's theology as one which always asked that old question - "What would Jesus do?" A brilliant illustration I thought. (Naturally, the world is a messy place and often bad things have to be done. For example, Christian Roman soldiers did eventually have to fight the "Just War". If I understand Stephen correctly, he does not appear to necessarily judge this. But he invites people to ask before plunging the sword in, "What would Jesus do?") Many of the theists I engage on forums are very much into Jesus being the same God as described in the OT. Naturally this leads to all kinds of problematical apologetics. Hence I was particularly drawn to Stephen's idea of Jesus showing humans what God really is like. It made sense. Much, much more sense than the apologetics I come across. Apologists really ought to be sorry for many of the arguments they produce. Enjoyed the idea of a travelling theologian. Like a travelling philosopher - go into a pub and start up conversations which take people out of their daily routines and their daily thinking. If Christians are the salt of the earth, then the meal is far, far too salty. Hence I loved the idea of Christians simply keeping their heads down and just working away in the background. Ditto for the kingdom of God being here on earth and not some esoteric meeting place up there, for all good people after they die. It becomes relevant to everyone here and now. In the US context, did politics capture Christianity or did Christians capture politics? Whatever, it's ugly. Perhaps my biggest problem is that some of the books mentioned, sound interesting, even for an old atheist like me. So damnit. Off to the bookshop. More reading to do, and I am running out of time. :)

Most Religions say the all the Wicked and Evil People will go to hell and burn. If that is true, then the way the K.J.V Bible reads that takes in all people. The one verse below proves that would be true from the words of Jesus himself, please read close. The next scripture #3 will prove God is kind to the evil. You can not be kind to the evil and burn them in a hell. The 2 scripture below should tell you 2 things. Please read and think about. #1: Mark 10: 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is (NONE) good but one, that is, God. NOW ASK your smart phone what the opposite of good is, and it will tell you! BAD, WICKED. Now if you don't want to believe Google, then you might want to ask Webster as he has been around for some time now, he even throws in evil. So Just where does that leave ALL MANKIND?= BAD, WICKED and EVIL. K.J.V Bible says Jesus was. # 2) 1 Peter 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: #2 should tell you just who Jesus was. If He was without sin and neither was guile found in his mouth: DID THAT MAKE HIM GOOD OR BAD AND WICKED? OR JUST MAYBE HE WAS GOD HIMSELF, WHO CAME TO LIVE HIS LIFE IN THE FLESH OF MANKIND HERE ON EARTH, NOT AS GOD BUT AS A MAN, AND GIVE HIS LIFE FOR ALL CREATION. #3 YOU CAN NOT BE KIND TO THE UNTHANKFUL AND TO THE EVIL AND HAVE THEM BURN AND Torture them in hell. #3 LUKE 6 35But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. 36Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful Definition of merciful = Full of mercy; having or exercising mercy; disposed to pity and spare offenders; unwilling to punish. Opposite of merciless. The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious.

Kate, are you also aware of Michael Hutchison's "Megabrain" & "Megabrain Power"? Neither Religion or Philosophy overlook anything, as they are not people, you're personifying, it might be that certain representatives of those disciplines overlook areas, but not the subjects themselves. I've used the term Protopsychology, as there existed psychotechnologies before Janet, Pavlov, Wundt & James, that have been marginalised, mainly in Religions especially but not exclusively Eastern & Philosophy, with people such as Parmenides, Plato, Aristotle, the Neo-Platonists, Locke, the Earl of Shaftesbury, Nietzsche, the German Idealists, Kierkegaard etc For traumas look up NLP's Trauma Resolution Pattern. Did you know there are at least three systems that image acupuncture points, & I won't mention the number of Biofield & Chakra electronic detectors out there. Experienced meditators phase lock their brain waves with the first peak of the several peaks of the Schumann resonance at 7.8htz, one could call this Transcendental Physicalism. The frequencies of the peaks are roughly double the number of petals on the chakras. There's a new technology out there, look up "NeRF Research Turns 2D Photos into 3D Scenes" Interactive 3D for almost everything will soon be available. I come up with the idea of using Shepard tones combined with cycled panning to hopefully give an experience of going ever inwards or outwards depending on whether ascending or descending tones are used & whether the panning is inwards or outwards. Consciousness expansion techniques are easier than meditation, look up The Wholeness Process. BraIn waves aren't just located in the Brain, but all over the whole body. Regarding smell, the old idea was that a molecules fitted a receptor with a similar shape known as the lock & key theory, later it has been found most aromatic molecules are ring shaped which allows for greater oscillation, which emits radio waves. There's no need to insert electrodes into the brain, Patrick Flanagan invented the Neurophone which could input without invasion, he also invented a chakra detector.

Excellent vid. For me I look at it as a personal journey of analyzing and bringing down some or all of the building blocks of 'faith'. And because things can't exist in a vacuum, we might find those building blocks could be reused to a new model. Like you said there is no limit. For me personally, I found I was acutely aware of that vacuum. Frankly, it was scary facing that. So I was pretty cautious initially 'bringing down the house'. It was only after befriending someone for support, and discovering many things outside the confines of Christianity that I made the move. I didn't find any use for the old building blocks. 40yrs later, those blocks are still around, and I find that maybe a few could be useful. While I experienced complete freedom, I didn't feel any urges to proselytize anyone. I felt I owed them the respect of their beliefs. Anyway thanks for the upload.
