The craftsmanship coming out of the factory is obviously bad. It would have been interesting to see the quality of repairs that could have been done by the company if they could have put an entire team on it and not had to work around people trying to live on the boat at the same time. That it takes a lot longer for 2 or 3 people to get through a large project than a team of 6-12 professionals is a foregone conclusion. I suppose it's not a terrible way to build a youtube channel.
@travelsketchКүн бұрын
You mean like the 7 months the boys were in Cape Town and the factory messed around doing as little as possible arguing about almost everything and being wrong about everything. They had an apartment nearby, the hull was empty, opened the boat by 8am every day but Sunday and left at night after fixing it themselves. We have no trust in the factory because they were mostly useless in their approach to actually fixing the root cause behind problems. They just drag work out and mess around knowing your visa will expire. They had up to ten people working in Trinidad. The absurd and disgraceful amount of collateral damage by itself will take a month or more to repair. The contractors also never own up to ANY damage. You have to catch them. I can imagine the chaos if nobody was watching and they could cover it all up.

As a prospective owner I can say that I really feel for you guys. I don't doubt a word or single issue you have outlined over the last one year plus. I too, will never buy a new Leopard. An older one a slim maybe - but there are other options to be explored first. All this that you have put up with is not only an issue of a new boat with a ridiculous amount of issues but is life altering. Don't settle for anything less than you are asking for.

90% of Trinidad never being or can't afford it. So you make a video 😢
@travelsketchКүн бұрын
In 2000 foreign yacht owners directly contributed $55 million USD to the Trinidadian economy, largely to local businesses and trades. Today it is less than 10% of that, with owners going to countries like Grenada and Guatemala instead. Do you want videos like this showing that Trinidad has the capacity to lift, store and service these boats in an effort to revive the sector and benefit both islands economies, as many who sail to Trinidad also visit Tobago, or would you rather not promote an industry with huge potential to create new jobs and generate income?
@ducatiparts9662 күн бұрын
You are going to continue to find problems even after all the ones you have found are fixed. Fixing the current issues may likely take 6-12 more months. At that point you have wasted two or more years of your lives dealing with a boat that frankly is a piece of shit. Get your money back, get paid for your time and go buy a boat and sail away on your adventure. I can not comprehend why you are putting up with this. If you love the boat then go back to leopard and stay there while they build you a new boat and supervise the build so you know corners are not cut. I know you love the boat and I’m not trying to offend you but it’s clear these boats are garbage, it’s not just yours they all suffer from dozens/hundreds of problems. They just hope the problems do not appear until after warranty. I feel bad for you guys that you are doing this instead of sailing. At some point you have to give up and change direction. This will never end.
@travelsketchКүн бұрын

I feel really bad for you two. I am glad you're documenting this situation and the vessel’s defects. Setting aside the time, frustration and the lack of a through inspection the company has done its self and other Leopard owners a disservice. Please have your vessel independently evaluated paying close attention to possibly structural failures down the road compromising your safety. Bottom line inspect everything and don’t rely on the unvetted or parties that may have their own biases clouding an objective assessment. Identify all the deficiencies and beef up anything that looks or has a history of being weak points. This will serve you well down the road and give you a good look at what’s going on with your boat and hopefully alleviating any surprises in the future.

14:52... you said it as I was thinking it... "You don't buy a new boat..." I would have stopped right there. I am deeply deeply sorry you all are going through this BS. Truly and most sincerely I am... But in my personal life and in my humble opinion, I would NEVER buy a "new" boat regardless of "warranty" claims, all of that "just words"... Insurance companies work insanely hard (and I don't doubt spend more money) to delay, reduce, obfuscate and deny claims than they do on advertising AND executive bonuses put together... A used boat is tested, proven, and most often available for a price less to far less than the price of a new boat of the same make & model. Our boat is a 1995 Gozzard 44 MK1 "A" (yes a monohull, but "boats are boats")... Our Rocinante (Black Beauty then) is #6 of 24, she was 27 years old w/ 2 prior owners the day we bought her and, everything worked... I mean EVERYTHING. Not to even breach the topic of costs. Just one old salt's opinion... We wish you guys the very best. V/R CJ&JD Blackwell SV Rocinante =/|)= currently Hampton, VA

This is why you either have an third party account of verified funds, to be paid out at the completion of the contract, meaning after final survey to accept the build. Or a bank note that you have the funds ready on your account, or approved loan that is verified to be paid out only by the purchaser of the house/boat/etc after the contract has been completed. I don't understand why this isn't the case all around the world.. Like Royal Caribbean's latest ship being build, they don't own it yet and they haven't paid a dime for it yet. In fact various governments are backing the loans for the ship dockyard to build the ship... Only after accepting the ship Royal Caribbean's will pay the dockyard...
@travelsketch2 күн бұрын
Really what you need in this time period to buy a yacht is 1. a law degree in the country of business. 2. a degree in shipbuilding or be prepared to pay an expert to do a week long survey before final payment which production ship builders usually won't allow. Paying a lawyer is like rolling a dice.

Why the sh*t did the quality just suddenly drop mid way into production? And like you said, covid boat is not an excuse since that other boat looks fine. OK, so they can't claim that they didn't know your hull was bad. There were signs. Clearly it came out of the mold shit, and rather than throw out $30k of fiberglass/resin/labor costs they tryed to salvage it. This video just pisses me off. Leopard is owned by one of the largest hedge funds in the world. Profit is there motive not quality. In fact quality impacts profit in a negative way; so why do it? Who is one of the other owners? The Moorings. A group always known for providing a quality experience at an absurd price. Not surprising you are having these issues but they are not restricted to Leopard. Most cats are poorly built and really aren't blue water boats, but floating condos which serve a limited purpose.
