Come along as we explore the gorgeous Covigne River and Covigne Gorge in the Chaguaramas area of Trinidad! 🇹🇹 🇹🇹
The closest jungle swimming location to the shipyards and marinas visited by many yacht cruisers, the Covigne River area is natural space with monkeys, butterflies, crabs, fireflies and vibrant greenery. The hiking path starts near the Arboretum on a road that likely dates to when the United States military controlled the area, and continues up a dirt path that follows the river. Along the river are a few natural slot canyon gorges which have slowly been eroded into the rock over time, as well as water falls and a natural slide.
If you are hauled out in Trinidad for the hurricane season or are just here and holiday and are looking for something free, fun and adventurous to do, a trek up the Covigne River through the canyons and waterfalls might be the answer.

You can also find nutmeg spice as the area used to be a plantation long ago. There are also a few hidden bunkers from world war 2 off to the sides of the road and trail.

We've found two hidden bunkers before but didn't happen to film them this trip - we've spend quite a bit of time exploring World War 1 & 2 sites in Europe, especially in Belgium and Gibraltar, but these were our first for the Caribbean! I'll have to keep an eye out for signs of nutmeg next time we go :)

@@travelsketch The Satellite Dish at the Missile Tracking Station is another WW2 site in the area you can visit if you haven't already. It's almost to the end of Tucker Valley road just before Macqueripe Bay and starts at the entrance to the Bamboo Cathedral.

We havent made it to Rio Seco yet but did get a chance to Paria - it is beautiful! Unfortunately though the camera was forgotten that day so all we have are a few photos 🤦🏼‍♀️

We've tried a few but need to try more, especially since I haven't had Doubles yet! 😅 I loved the homemade sorrell drinks and curry flavours, while Tynan has taken to Trinidadian style hot sauce. Anything in particular you'd recommend?

@@travelsketch I would say doubles, pholourie and roti is a good place to start. There's also a dish called pelau that is amazing. If you go out to Maracas Beach, try the shark and bake i think it's called. If you go to tobago, try crab and dumplings. Good luck!!

so is the air quality in Trinidad poor ? nteresting descrption on your arrival . by the way have you tried souse , or stewed chicken Trinidadian style were is that waterfall in trinidad ?

The air-quality can be poor at times, especially when the Sahara Dust blows over from Africa. The air smelling like dirt when we first arrived wasn't a bad thing, it was just noticeable because the sail across took almost 4 weeks so for that time all we had was salt air. I've never done a crossing that long so it really stood out. We've tried some Trindadian food but not the souse yet. I quite like the taste of the sorrel drinks as well! The waterfall this video is about is in Covigne Gorge, while the one I show a quick snapshot of at the start is Avocat Falls. We did a video about it called "BEST Waterfall in Trinidad! you will absoutlely love the carribbean sorrel youve also got try fresh home made Mauby drink over ice cube its absoutley delicious and so refreshing ice cold no drink like it and is a drink thats specifically unique to the carribbean jamaica has it but its consumed more commonly in barbados ,st kitts ,st voncent and trindad and tobago its made from the bark from the mauby tree it has cinnamon stick vanilla nutmeg star anise ,aniseed bay leaf orange peel sensational drink i am over here in england so its hard for me to get fresh maybe bark another you got to try is coconut drops the best coconut drops or most authentic has lots of carribbean ginger in its its the most fiery and strong ginger tase and really takes the flavour uo a notch or two i bought once or twice in the local jamaican carribbean takeaway here in london england but its poor a pale imitation of the real deal ,i think they do it in Trinidad and Tobago let me know what you think of the sorrel drink ,mauby drink , coconut drops and pig foot souse surprisnly delicious another trinidadian food is doubles ,a roti @@travelsketch
