Yay!! Thank you! I JUST finished it two Sundays ago, so there aren't any previews and the cover image isn't quite accurate (it has some gold accenting strokes that haven't been added in yet). But, I can guarantee you that you're in for a treat in November! 🤗 Thanks so much for watching the video and the compliments on it; I really appreciate you taking the time to send some kindness my way. Have a fabulous weekend!

All the things I didn't know when I bought mine, thank you. Now when I do actual calligraphy instead of drawing, I'll need to change thinking/positioning, because all the things you said makes total sense in that context. I already had the regular plastic type of holder but was curious about oblique, so I bought the the plastic oblique, but it was for drawing, so I never experienced the shortfalls you mentioned for the forward positioning letter angle, I didn't know any better, so I was actually using the oblique rotated 180 degrees so that it points to the left instead of right which works well for drawing, because I'm drawing lines going away instead of towards me at about 45degrees. With the regular tip holder it was always an awkward angle with my hand or pen position in my hand like you mentioned, which was why I tried the oblique. The alignment with the (plumb-line?) was always offset, but always wondered why it was, and just got used to doing it that way.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! 😊 It’s great to hear that the video helped clarify things for you. The transition from drawing to calligraphy can be quite an adjustment, especially when it comes to understanding the tools and techniques. Using the oblique holder rotated 180 degrees for drawing is a clever workaround! It’s amazing how different our approach can be when switching between drawing and calligraphy. The alignment and positioning really do make a big difference when it comes to letterforms and achieving the desired angle. I completely understand the struggle with the regular holder and the awkward angles-it’s something many of us have experienced. The oblique holder is a game-changer for calligraphy, and I’m glad you’re discovering its benefits. If you have any more questions or need further tips, feel free to reach out. Happy calligraphing! ✍️✨

@LindseyBugbeeTPK
@LindseyBugbeeTPK 19 күн бұрын
Hi! Thanks for this question. Even if your name doesn't have ascenders or descenders, you can still create a beautiful and unique signature! Focus on adding style and flair to the letters you do have. You can experiment with flourishes, loops, or extending the horizontal strokes of your letters. Another option is to play around with the size and slant of your letters to make your signature stand out. I saw this article the other day, and I felt like it was pretty inspirational. Even though it showcases handwriting in general, it might spark ideas for your signature? www.boredpanda.com/perfect-handwriting-calligraphy-examples/

How&why to NOT use Sumi. It is hella overhyped overpriced diy bottled up gullible ink! The ONLY thing we need to make our own Sumi? Charcoal+.... Plain water will do and a splash of up to 2/3 the volume pure ethanol wont hurt. Because real Sumi is Suki! It isnt black its outright grey. if used in anything or just on its own in dryingnit kicks the charcoal out. Nice matte finish you think. Now touch it It is really dang similar to eastern indian stable and true pitch black stains you for a fortnight type ink Sumi is the talked up Japanese knockoff 😂
@LindseyBugbeeTPK
@LindseyBugbeeTPK 19 күн бұрын
Hi there! I appreciate your passionate take on sumi ink. It’s true that sumi ink can be quite different from other inks, and DIY options are always interesting to explore. Sumi ink has its unique qualities, especially valued in traditional calligraphy and painting for its deep black tones and beautiful matte finish. While some may prefer to make their own, others find value in the convenience and consistent quality of store-bought sumi ink. It’s all about what works best for your creative process! Thanks for sharing your insights and adding to the discussion. 😊

Interesting video! I didn't know that you could use cancelled stamps for "envelope art". I have quite a few vintage stamps that don't have a value on them. They were first class (I think) stamps from the era before "Forever" stamps, maybe the 70's, 80's, 90's. I've had trouble finding their value. You'd think the USPS would have an archive with all the stamps from every year. That would be cool, but I don't think it exists. Do you know of a source for that kind of info? So far, I've just googled a description of the stamp and sometimes I can find it, but not as easily as you'd think. Thanks if you see this!

I do the same as you! I try to be as descriptive as possible with Google ("Stamp with two blue birds date 1940", etc. etc.). If Google doesn't know, you could always try chatting with Chat GPT to see if it does any better. I feel like Google hasn't been as great at pointing you where you need to go lately, unfortunately.

Well, when I write my name to fill out forms, I write it in all caps while using ligature (the letters connect). When I sign my name, it's lowercase except the first letter and my last name… well, the first two letters are recognizable and the rest is a line with two pips.
@LindseyBugbeeTPK
@LindseyBugbeeTPK Ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your approach! It's fascinating to hear about the unique ways people customize their signatures to fit different contexts. Your method of using ligatures for filling out forms and incorporating lowercase letters in your signature adds a personal touch to your writing. Each signature tells a story, and yours sounds like it has a distinctive flair. Keep experimenting and finding what works best for you!
