Haha! Yessir I guess you could say that lol. Nah, I just don’t wanna ruin it if something isn’t quite right. I can break him in easy. Do piston and cylinder inspections before I turn it on up. And then start cutting timber with it. If that makes sense anyway. Thank you sir for the prayers and your dedication to praying for me! That means more than anything anyone could do for me! I surely appreciate it. Thank you very much! And thank you again, for taking time to watch and comment as always. You’re a true jewel my friend! Thank you and do come again, please

The other good thing dragging the tops out is it gets Kate and Alice in shape. The way you make sure not to hurt them shows what type of person you are. Besides them being a tool, like the log cart, God gave us dominion over them. That means we need to make sure they are healthy. God bless, my brother

Yes, sir, I do believe that with all my heart. We are to be good stewards over the things that God has blessed us with. Our animals included. And I also believe that if an animal is going to work for you, then you need to do all you can to take care of it and feed it well. Will your tie logs go to the same place your grade logs go And what do they do with your grade . I didn't notice any white oak for staves or have they figured out how to make staves with red oak
@zachodom7486
@zachodom7486 2 сағат бұрын
Tie logs and pallet wood will go to the same mill. Grade logs will go to a different mill. You can only make stave out of White Oak. And on this job, there is no white Oak. The only grade we will have will be red oak grade. It does pay a little more than an average tie log per foot; but not a whole lot more. Markets right now are really tight! And one has to watch every single penny… thank you for the question! And thank you as always for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please

That is a good idea, but I don’t have time to process it. And most folks here cut their own. I have offered it free to anyone who would come get it. But no one has ever showed up lol. You can’t hardly give it away here. So that’s why I don’t even try to do anything with it. Sometimes we will clean up tops for the landowner with the skid steer and burn them. Nice name! I want to see the mule head on it!! I have a horseshoe nail on the shifter on this old B! I needed a pin to hold a retaining washer for a spring, I didn't have a pin, so I drilled a small hole thru the shifter at the bottom of where the washer is supposed to be, put the nail on my grinder until it went thru where it was supposed to be! I needed a spring for a throttle on a JD 720, what am I'm going to use, I got it, a spring from an ink pen! I needed a spring for a wheel dog, I have an Idea, I took a baby diaper pin, cut the head off, put the bolt thru the loop, got it!

How come you dont cut logs at 16 ft. ?
@zachodom7486
@zachodom7486 11 сағат бұрын
I do on grade when I can. It just depends on how it works out. If they’re too big, 16’ is too hard for us to handle. If they’re 20-22” type stuff, and I can…I’ll cut em 16’. Fact I just got some out yday. We lose our prime pay if they’re not at 10’. Pay is the same from 10-16’. So it doesn’t pay to cut em longer unless you’re trying to stack footage on the truck, and or save time on bucking saw logs. But again, on the real big stuff…we simply can’t handle it when it gets that big. Because most of our grade are the butt cuts. Uppers are ties. Ties are cut 9’ and 18’. All pallet here is cut 9, 12, and 14’. So that’s most of the reasoning there buddy. Hope it helps answer ya question: and thx for asking! Thanks also for taking time to watch and comment. I appreciate it. Take care and do come again, please

Hey ole buddy! Good to hear from you. So, that’s why when I release the blocks, I release the front block first. The back one will hold the logs while I get the front one out first. Then I move to the rear and release the back one so I can get out of the way should they start to roll. And I’ve had em roll on me before especially if you’re facing downhill a little. @zachodom7486
@zachodom7486 Күн бұрын
Thank you, and I’m glad you have enjoyed it so far. So, a “lead” animal whether it be a horse or mule working in harness is always on the left hand side. The right hand animal is called the “off” side animal. Or off mule/horse. The lead mule gets its description from back in the day when they drove the 20 mule borax teams and artillery batteries hitches with a jerk line. I work four mule a lot with a jerk line or one line. The one line animal is on the left hand side or lead side. The odd animal must whatever the lead animal does. Usually your bigger animal goes on the off side and your smaller smarter animal on the left: it doesn’t always work that way tho. So, anyway…hope this helps ya understand a little better. Thank you for watching and commenting! Take care and do come again, please

Hey there! It is good to hear from you. So, if you are an inexperienced Teamster, then I would recommend getting an experienced animal. Logging is very dangerous!!! And it can be multiplied with a green horse or mule and a green teamster at the same time. Green and green does not go together usually. A more experienced settled animal is what you need. One that has some experience! And my humble opinion of course, you would always be welcome to come here and work with me if you like. And gain some experience first.a good mentor to help you is a big help. And I am always willing to help anybody that wants to learn. In anyway that I can. The main thing is, is that you are not in a hurry, so that is good. Thank you for the questions and showing interest! Again, I will be glad to help you anyway that I possibly can. Thank you. I think this way is the easiest way to do it imho. It takes longer to jack it up than it does to get it slid out. And even with the track off you still don’t have a lot of room between the final drive and frame to work. So, for me..I prefer it this way and will do it again this same way when it happens again. My buddy I worked with at Thompson Caterpillar is the one who put me onto it. So I’d say that it’s probably the easiest way since they do it everyday. I was thankful he shared with me for sure. Interesting video now I have one question, when you hauled those two logs together and you used two chains why not do a figure 8 or a slip hook and a half hitch and just used one chain?
@zachodom7486
@zachodom7486 2 күн бұрын
Hey buddy! OK, most of the time when hitching to two logs like that… They are far enough away from each other that they need to be drug together in order to use a figure or half each. It is a little more difficult doing it with the figure 8 when the logs are separated. And it is also a little harder to get it out at the landing. So that’s why I just usually use to change. It is easier to adjust it to get it equal. Sometimes I don’t have a choice but to use a figure. Because I might want to pull three or even four. And when that happens, you have to figure 8. Anyway, I hope this answers your question. And thank you so much for taking time to watch and comment! I really appreciate your time. Thank you for the kind words, my friend and take care!

What is gum good for? I've never seen that sawn into lumber. That is the mark of a good mule man or horseman: always seeking to make it easier on the animal you are working.

Thank you ma’am for the kind words! I do try my best by my animals. So, on the gum logs… They are usually sold into cross ties. And whatever is left is sewn into pallet material. It does not make good lumber at all. It is too stringy and will bow too much pallet. Thank you for the question! And thank you for always taking time to comment. I appreciate your time! Take care of my friend and do come again, please
