I did something similar to this, but I went with a 35lb trolling motor and I get a 3.5- 3.8mph reading with the 55lb what’s speeds do you top out at?
@yakitup8052 ай бұрын
Not much more than that. With trolling motors you often top out at whatever the hull allows which is in the upper 3mph for this kayak. More thrust just helps maintain speed when the current is stronger

I think I just caught the exact spotted sand bass you caught first in your video a couple days ago. Lol, he's about the same size maybe a hair chunkier, looks exactly the same of course. Good times. He's past the take size so I took him home and am keeping him in my new 60 gallon aquarium. I named him spot. He's friendly, enjoys eating a variety of shrimp and doesn't mind the occasional pet. Very vibrant colors with bright orange spots at the head fading to some more brown spots near the tail. He got himself off the hook as soon as I got him into my travel tank. In great health. 11/10 pet fish. p.s. full disclosure, he is watching me type this as his tank is directly adjacent to my desk but on my honor this is not biased. lol

60 gallons is tiny for a 16inch fish. Bay bass want to be out in the bay 🤔

@@yakitup805 it’s a 60 gallon long with lots of space to swim. The size of a good tub 🛁 he’s got plenty of space and flow. My good friend the manager of the LFS that is an Aquarist is always helping me and reminded me that they don’t usually roam a great deal unless feeding, and from now on he gets free food for life 🤷♂️ he’s enjoying it. Very cool man. do you have any luck with lighter weight jigs? Also, for the bait rod, have you ever used squid instead of anchovy?
@yakitup8054 ай бұрын
I have tried lighter jigs but in shallower water - they work well also. But I typically like to use 10gs per 10ft of water. I prefer baitfish over squid because i feel that squid attracts more whitefish and croakers but squid is better than nothing. Goodluck!

I seen that you have since sold this kayak but do you remember what size wire you used? I have been told that 6awg is as small as can be used safely. I would think 8 would be fine for such short runs but figured since you ran it I'd ask lol. Gread video man! Thanks!
@yakitup8057 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. With a 55lb trolling motor 6 is optimal but you can run 8 for really short runs like you said. 10 is out of the question. I have melted 10s during trials 😅 If you are using a 18-30lb trolling motor, you can do 10awg.. at least I have without issues. Thanks for watching!
@Jman8207 ай бұрын
@@yakitup805 thanks for the reply, I ended up going with 6 just to be safe and know I don't have to worry about it. I pretty much copied what you did here (my wiring it probably different but otherwise, same lol) and its been perfect! thanks!

@@Jman820 Its an awesome set up! I have an older pa14 now but tbh its the same thing as this, just had to scratch the hobie itch😅 The old town was definitely more stable but the Hobie was easier to mount a 2.5hp outboard to since it has the rudder under the kayak. Ive seen people rig an outboard the side powerpole mouunt area on old towns now too so maybe Oldtown is the way to go. Cheers!
