I came upon this video and it is a great idea. I am wondering if this would ever tip over though? Also, maybe I am not seeing correctly but if you are attaching the bookcases to one another, why didn't you attach the plates horizontally? How have the handles held up on the chip board?

How well has this held up? I'm mostly concerned about the casters because the bottom shelf wasn't designed to hold the weight of the bookcase. Mind you, since 10 of these could be made for the cost of a Dreambox, it's probably worth it as long as it lasted a few years. I'm pondering just building my own bookcases. A bit more cost and work than yours, but still cheaper than a Dreambox and sturdier than Walmart shelves.

they are a huge box when closed taking up so much space in a room. They come out so far, they are in the middle of a wall, you can’t put anything beside them, it looks weird. I think full wall of ikea pax where you can slide the doors open and bring a table down is more practical.

You did an excellent Job on this, I am interested in the organization that you used and where purchased. I have 4 open shelving units with 4 drawers that separate the top from the bottom sections, Problem is, I am bursting at the seams. my base sections are not as good as the top sections, the shelves do not fully cover the space front to back. it does provide room for taller items. There isn't room for my cricket, unless I find better ways to organize. Thank you!

Great job, one thing that would help anyone who thinks they may have heavier items on shelves is a devider under the centre of each row, made of mdf like shelf, just cut to size (distance between two shelves) and then no problemwith weight. Also, for table height, raise one of the shelves. They don't all have to be the and height, if you look at the original one it has lots of compartments, this helps stabilise it. I think you're great. Good job🎉🎉🎉

Kudos! This is brilliant!! I saw a video by a guy that built one for his wife from Ikea cabinets. I believe he said the total cost was around $500. He had an overhead piece that contained lighting and their table was hinged to the unit. The legs were in 2 pieces so it was easy to stow attached to the bottom of the desk. His concept was appealing but it just did not make me excited. This video makes me want to start my power tools! However, I hope to be moving within 6 months so I will wait until I am living in my new home so I will not have to move the creative, visionary unit. Since the sides are pressed wood/particle board I would be concerned about it busting near the screws. I would probably replace the sides with 1"x12"s. I would add 2 more hinges per side just to be safe. I tend to be overly cautious. Your end-result is nothing less than amazing! Major respect for the design and execution! Huge appreciation for sharing it online! On a scale of 1 to 10 this would easily be 1,000,000!

So if someone wanted to build the same thing from scratch right now between the functional improvements you've made since the original and the changes in prices the last few years how much would it a cost to build it now?
@uniquecraftycorner.5998
@uniquecraftycorner.5998 10 ай бұрын
@ESPdigiartist Hi. It depends on the materials you purchase. I just went on Walmart.com and found black bookcases for $35 each. I used 2” casters but I found better ones (gel ones) 3” casters for $20 (set of 4) very good price and hold 800 Lb. Way more then mine. You will need 16 though. 2 handles $18 but depending on the style you want the price give or take. Pack of 18- 3” hinges $18. I used 1.5 but would go bigger now. A 2x4 but not sure how much it cost but not much and contact paper if you choose. Prices are from Walmart and amazon as of 10-17-2023 4 bookcases $35 = $140 16 Casters $20 for 4 = $80 2 handles =$18 18 hinges =$18 All together $256 plush 2x4s and some board and contact paper. So I would say around $300 depending on the items you purchase. It’s a bit more now but still way cheaper then the original one. And you can build 10 of these for the price of original one. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching. 😊
