Salaries for PTs are shockingly lower than expected. Not sure why the field moved to a doctorate degree, rather than staying at the bachelor's level.

I my opinion, there isn’t many professions that are worse for time and money invested vs the salary reward at the end of the rainbow. I think PA, NP, and Pharmacist are much better health care professions.

Hello, my name is ATSUSHI, and I am a physical therapist in Japan. I work at a national university hospital in Japan, primarily focusing on the rehabilitation of emergency patients. I understand that you, Kristen, are also a physical therapist, and I would like to exchange information about physical therapy practices overseas. I look forward to your response.

As a newly PTA grad who was fortunate enough to have well-rounded clinical experiences, I would suggest a student shadow a PT and a PTA at various clinical settings because the jobs vary immensely. At my inpatient rotation, the PTs were mostly typing all day and the PTAs were treating. This clinic had more PTAs than PTs. In outpatient, depending on the setting, PTs were able to be more involved in some treatments. In acute care, my rotation included a PTA and a PT as my CIs and the PTs’ job was immensely boring IMO. They repeated the same phrases day in and day out and just asked a bunch of questions. They rarely performed any treatments. I did work in a level 1 trauma unit so we were always busy. It may be different in other acute care settings. I only worked ortho, neuro, and trauma. I’m sure the cardiac floor was much different but still a lot of repetition. If that doesn’t bore you to death like it did me, then that might be good. Each person has different interests and all are needed. It’s often that one will go into school thinking they will work in a specific setting until they go on clinicals and learn more detail of certain pathologies and their treatments. I thought I wanted to work outpatient but I fell in love with neuro. The best thing is to know your learning style and interests and then pay attention to what interests you in school. I can’t emphasize shadowing/observation in multiple settings before applying to PT or PTA school. Plus, the bridge program is there for those who decide to expand their degree. I think the only reason I would pursue the bridge program is if I ever wanted to own my own clinic. Otherwise, I love the direct patient care I can give as a PTA and the leadership and guidance I can get from a great PT.

I feel like it doesn’t help me rewriting everything from a PPT on notability. It results in a huge amount of time spent on a passive approach, which I could be doing active study instead

What did your day to day look like in terms of studying? Like if there is a day when you have a couple pages of reading but no lecture, what did you do the rest of the day? I am starting at the beginning but am feeling like I am not filling up my hours of studying with just the reading or the lecture if there is one.

I would follow the study plan whether that be the lecture or readings for the day! then I would cross reference with my scorebuilders book to see if there was anything additional to review about the topic the FF content was talking about if that makes sense. hope this helps!

Great job on this! I’m a DPT and own a practice, and I would tell any young person NOT to enter this field. I do ok, but it is a constant battle to be paid. I only stay afloat because most of my patients pay cash because I am specialized in vestibular rehab. If you are not specialized( which takes extra time in school and lots of money) expect to be paid less than your nurse friends….or find a wealthy spouse😅

@@zzzdeprivedgang9723 yes, you and almost every other PT that wants to “ do sports” that market is over saturated and you won’t make much money. Vestibular and women’s health are ok.
