Excellent video. I've been through many times and have stopped to eat and do a little walking around. This really puts the place into perspective. Are any of the old mine sites accessible that are west of town?

I lived in Randsburg for a short time in the late eighties, I moved back to Kansas where at an antique mall, found 2 1950s Red Mountain calendars that were a Cadillac dealer in Red Mountain. Never knew it was that big at that time to have a dealer. It must have not been there for long. Great video, thanks!

I want to give you thanks for making that video it was very interesting to see some of the history you gave out about trona having my family of sixth generations live in there and working at the plant and majority of them still live there and work there although some have moved to Ridgecrest and because of the earthquake some have moved out of there but majority of my family members still work and live there in trona and the swimming pool that they're talking about that was an awesome place to go but what a lot of people don't know is across the street in the desert from the pool there's an oasis where there's a really nice waterfall and natural spring that the locals know about and go and hang out but have bonfires barbecue and swim in the waterfall okay maybe not swim but get wet in the waterfall which was awesome to do during the summer till this day most of my family members still live there and some of them are actually in management and working there at the plant so it was awesome to see someone do a little documentary video about trona once again you did a great job

My Grandmother lived in Goldfield with her father, a doctor, after the SF earthquake. She recalled seeing Diamond Lil at a bar as she peeked in and all the prostitutes waiting for custmers in front of their cribs. She said to get to Goldfield one had to take the stage coach - from Reno? She was 10 years old when she arrived and stayed until 14. Your presentation is much appreciated and i could see her at the places you mention.

My brother recently told me about this video and I was really excited to see it. Our grandparents lived, and passed, in Red Mountain, and are buried in Randsburg. My grandfather was a miner and my grandmother cooked for the miners. My brother lived with our grandparents for some time and I spent many summers as a kid in Red Mountain. It's been a long time since I have visited the area. I'm going to make an effort to do so in the future.

great video! Interesting history, wondered why that site until you explained the previous town there, makes sense. Glad you were able to fix the video, you included so many really well done black and white images of Manzanar. Hopefully our country never makes the mistake again of locking up our own citizens based on their heritage.

It's unfortunate that public school history classes in California completely ignore this travesty. My good friend's father was put here and also in Tule Lake. He and his wife were two very patriotic U.S. citizens. That didn't matter. Thank you for making this video.

Great video! includes a lot of information I'd never heard before like the Manzanar Riot. Back in the late 1970's I worked for a Southern California tour bus company. One time I picked up a very solemn group in Los Angeles and drove them to Manzanar. They were mostly ex-internees and some where the children and grand children of the people inturned. Back then there wasn't much except for the white monument to the people who had died there. Others came from the Bay Area and Central California, apparently this was a annual event. The people got off the bus and spent a couple hours going around the site.

Thanks so muck for all your work putting this historical background out to the general public. Sad how the average person of ALL types and backgrounds ALL want the same thing, HARMONY; but a small group form a RACKET known as WAR using the average person as their sacrificial tool. In my younger active days I passed by this ghost town on my way to Mammoth Lakes many times.

If you went up Whitney Portal Road from 395 you would have come across a "priority" continuation of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power over the town. The last two winter's experienced a large snow pack in the Eastern Sierra's; and the successive spring thaws, particularly the thaw of 2023, realized devastating flash flooding that took out a major portion of Whitney Portal Road, the ventures of Lone Pine Creek at the aqueduct, and the road over the LA aqueduct. Only about 200' of the road has been repaired, and thats the portion that runs over the aqueduct, and of course the spillway of the creek to the aqueduct. But from Tuttle Creek Road to Movie Flat Road remains closed to automobile traffic. The devastation is far beyond the Towns financial ability to repair; it's a major reconstruction and re-engineering project that's in the hands of the State. Good luck Lone Pine - the detours may wind up being permanent work around.

Yes, I saw the damage and the detours. I did not attempt to take the Whitney portal detour. Thanks for sharing your information.

@@GhostTownWonders Thanks for awesome history lesson. I lived there and learned more history here than from the museums. If you go back in cooler temps, have good knees & legs, hike along Whitney Portal from end to end of the closures; it's tens of millions of $ to restore - even more to make it so it doesn't happen again - which is why I don't see that road being fixed - ever - not in the current political climate of the State - which is somewhat in perpetual motion towards the crime of it's own demise. Great job on the video - a capstone compliment lending more clarity to having lived there. Well done.
