Videographer didn’t get footage of this song, so instead of just leaving it out, we at least included the audio with stills.

I stayed in the same building as Donald Fagen for a while in the 80s. He was a great neighbour. I guess that might surprise some of you, but in his own element he can be remarkably good company. We became good friends and he was very encouraging to me as a fellow musician. The best piece of advice he ever gave me was to recommend the wearing of moleskin pants. He swore by them then and probably still does. He sets great store by comfort. I’ve been wearing them ever since with no regrets. I also believe their anti-viral qualities protected me thru Covid. Many thanks, Donnie.

You guys certainly know the magic. I’ve listened to the Dan since 1972. Just like a magnet to perfection I was hooked from the first second I heard them. Truly brilliant masters. You guys are up there with them……. Yehhhh ya not the lads but you stand along side them. Beautiful work. Thank you for keeping our dreams alive🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌👌💯💯💯💯💯👌👌

Is this available on vinyl? I would lobe to hear this on my stereo rather on my phone. The phone doesn't do justice to the audio. This newer version would sound so much better on a home stereo setup.
@TNKeys10 күн бұрын
Donald and his managers will not give us a license, so no. No itunes, no Spotify, and no vinyl. Maybe KZfaq through your car speakers, or hook your home computer up to a great sound system.
@Vince-o6c10 күн бұрын
@TNKeys ...ok, then my only way to do this is to download the video to my computer then hook a pair of audio cables from the PC to my audio mixing console ( part of my stereo setup ) then record it to my 10.5" reel to reel tape deck part of my home stereo setup.

It looks like the intro bass is played by the keyboardist on the right. I don’t see the bass player start playing until just before the vocals begin .
@TNKeys12 күн бұрын
You are correct. On the recording the intro was just played by Bass marimba. The electric bass takes over towards the end of the introduction.

I find this whole project so fascinating and delightful to listen to! But I had a question - My wife, who is a live music performer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist, said she heard some kind of pitch correction/autotuning done on live lead vocals; I don't. Can you clarify if you sweeten or otherwise perfect the vocals after the fact? Or is this, indeed (as I feel) just how it sounds live?
@TNKeys22 күн бұрын
Yes, since these performances are forever on video, like all other live concert DVDs, there was some sweetening. There are also limitations of recording in a small club to be considered when it comes to how it affects everyone’s monitoring.

The great Tim Akers on keys (Yamaha S90ES). Probably transcribed this chart by ear. Rest In Peace, Tim. We will miss you greatly but thank you for what you've given us.

Tim was great, and asked to be a part of this. But this chart, and all of them were from my vault of Steely Dan and Dan-adjacent treasures performed by our tribute Twelve Against Nature. RIP TA.

@@TNKeys No disrespect intended at all! I was just guessing based on the tremendous charts he did for The Smoking Section. And now that I know about you and have subscribed, I will do my best to keep up with you and will do whatever I can to be there if you're playing anywhere around Nashville. And BTW, as a keyboard guy who sang Fagen in more than one little forever to remain unknown cover band, you do a GREAT job!

Funny but I never really appreciated the harmonies on this track until you covered it, Scott. Really really hard with all the major 2nds…and a great tribute to the genius of Donald Fagen, IMHO… it sounds really simple, but it is actually really complex…
