I really like your interviews. Always interesting people, but there is something else too. You have a way of getting them talking from their heart. Looking forward to more of these interviews. Wow. Phil's portraits sure have a lot of character. And they do so despite their often super-shallow depth of field, which I would otherwise often dismiss as fashionable or gimmicky - he truly nails them. Love that approach of utilizing the ambient, and yet remaining curious about modifying it with artificial light. But most of all this insistence on taking your time, of letting your sitter get used to the camera, and of letting them use whatever they bring to the studio or location with minimal posing or direction. Thank you so much, Sean, for making this available to a wider public. It is truly inspirational.

I cannot bring myself to call them head shots. I always say portraits - even if they are unambiguously head shots. Not sure why. I love the painterly quality of these portraits. Outstanding interview Sean.

The camera captures the thoughts of the subject. The photographer/director etc creates a space for those thoughts. Both go beyond technical ability or access to technology. Even if those things matter, it’s just as important to access the soul of the work as the clarity of its expression.

Thanks for making this, Sean. Phil has been one of my favourite photographers for a while now, and I'm consistently impressed with and inspired by his work. It was great getting a more in depth and candid view of his process. Also, I'll add that your work too, not only your photography, but your way of viewing the world, forming thoughts and sharing them in an articulate way, has also been an inspiration to me. Thank you for always bringing more than simple photographs to your videos, but creating something truly human. It's beautiful.

Can I like this any more times? Ive been admiring Phil's work for years. Your interview captured more insight than anything else I have seen on him and his work. slowing down and getting a "portrait" vs a "headshot"... Really great!

Great interview. Phil Sharp’s portraits are some of the best out there in my opinion. I took his course on Domestika and would recommend it to anyone interested in improving their portraiture.

This aspect of portrait photography that make people accept and even like features of themselves they’d usually try not to show.. I find this incredibly powerful and Mr. Sharp made this aspect very compelling! It’s a truly wonderful and rich genre. Your interview style and editing here is spot on! I can’t thank you enough for these inspiring videos, Sean. You and the people you’re speaking with are a force that keeps me interested in photography, even if I don’t have a lot of time.

I certainly would not Phil Sharp's work as headshot photography mainly because headshots are primarily directed by an industries requirements. His work though is phenomenal portraiture. You absolutely connect with each subject and become intrigued by their stories. His portraiture style is unique and refreshing. Thanks Sean for bringing us closer to his work.

Sean, I always like your videos and the thought that goes into them, this one has been really inspiring. Phil's thing about taking his time and letting the person be who they are i.e. don't direct them is exactly how I like to take portrait photgraphs. Music is an extra element that I will try out.

Wow, Sean, this video really reonates with me. I'm not at Phil's level as a portrait photographer, but I approach my shoots quite similarly. And I am also looking for the same thing in my portraits. It occurred to me I often don't take enough time to allow for the magical portrait moment to occur. In my dance shoots I do, so really quite silly of me. Inspiring. It’s interesting how as we age as photographers we let go of control. And he’s a shining example of letting go and getting out of the way of the camera… am wondering what the little piece of glass that is attached to the lens… is it one of those filters that softens and blurs in specific parts of the frame? For a non technical video I am strangely curious…

An enjoyable, educational insight.I am a wheelchair and some what disabled person who is restricted to certain genre of photography. Portrait not one sadly. I do however, enjoy your channel. Your flow of speech is both rhythmic and easy to listen and absorb.Thankyou
