Looks dangerous which is exactly the type of 💩 we must avoid or it will be taken away.. Grow without factory looking set up. Wires no care water and electric together. Its 1970s style. I want to grow with the least electricity not more.

Hey its been awhile are these still the leds you reccomend? I see most "top end" grow lights seem to use samsung 301b leds now.

It really depends on the application. If you are making your own lights, I still recommend the 351 series. The LH351 series are more expensive but they have a much higher output capacity. For individuals, these are better because you can make a fairly powerful light with a handful of them. The LM301 series has been used in grow lights for years, and that is because their capacity is much lower and they are relatively inexpensive. From a circuit design perspective, this is a better option for manufacturers because it simplifies the on-board power management. Since those configurations are highly parallelized and use way more LEDs, it also allows for several to burn out without shutting the whole board down. It would take you forever to build a decent board with them by hand, though. In short: LM301 - better for manufacturers. LH351 - better for hobbyists. Edit: This only applies if you are making your own lights. If you want to buy a premade solution, the 301-based boards will probably last longer and be slightly more efficient due to better thermal management.

I just commented on your other video about my tent size, not realising you have the same one 😅 Anyways i'm almost finished binging all the videos on this channel, just one left after this. I wish there were more but i'm assuming life happened and you had to prioritise more important things. I wonder if you kept up with the hobby offline?

Always nice to see someone enjoying this content. You are right that things got busy and I haven't taken the time to start prioritizing this again. I do plan on it in the future, but can't say when at this point. Definitely still building lots of stuff, time permitting, although I never could solve the smell completely so I mostly grow tomatoes & stuff now 🥲

You really made something that seemed so confusing and made it sound simple. I've got a small 40x40x120cm tent and i'm ready to make a light for it. I was thinking of using Samsung LM301B lights and was wondering what you think?
@autumnmaticcreations62
@autumnmaticcreations62 4 ай бұрын
The LM301B are good lights, but you need a lot more of them. These run on less current and are the type usually found on Spider Farmer / Mars Hydro lights. If you are going to make your own lights, I definitely recommend going with a 3535 footprint, like the Samsung LH351B. They are more expensive, but put out more much more power and will be a lot simpler to assemble.
@Sasquatch10
@Sasquatch10 4 ай бұрын
@@autumnmaticcreations62 Thanks, i've had a look and the LH351B are clearly a MUCH better option. I did have another question in regards to adding different coloured lights (all in series) using the same power supply. Say for example we use 3 different colour LED's and all three have a different Forward Voltage and max current. Is it safe to use one power supply to power the whole thing? Assuming of course the constant current of the power supply does not exceed the max current of any of the three LED's, and the total voltage of the whole series is within the acceptable range of the power supply.
@autumnmaticcreations62
@autumnmaticcreations62 4 ай бұрын
@@Sasquatch10 Yep. That is totally fine. The power supply is agnostic as to what kinds of lights it is driving. You run into issues when you try to run series strings of colored LEDs in parallel from the same driver and the colors don't match. Since the voltage/current ratio is different for each string in this case, but the voltage is forced to be the same, you can run into an issue where one of the strings takes on almost all of the current. Not a good outcome if, say, you decide to run six strings of 1A max LEDs in parallel with a 3A supply.

It occurs to me that it would be much easier to create an array of GU10 fitting LED units. Not only would it produce more directional lumens, but they can also be easily interchangeable between cooler 6500k (blue) units and warmer 2500 - 3500 (red) units, thus optimizing the spectrum requirements of the plants at various growth stages.

Thanks for the video! I'm going to give this a try instead of buying my next set of grow lights. Do you have any methods for water-proofing?
@autumnmaticcreations62
@autumnmaticcreations62 8 ай бұрын
Thanks! Unless your lights are going to be in the splash zone, I would not worry about water too much. If you want to err on the side of caution, you could look into silicone sealing spray - just make sure it can handle high temperatures. Anything rated for outdoor use should be fine.

I'm a noob and all but I don't like the whole dryer sheets as a carbon filter unless you have a fan pushing old hot air out. It might just be me, again I'm a noob. But wouldn't air coming through the filter and exiting through a dryer sheet just spread the chems on the dryer sheet through your grow room? The plant looks healthy and all but you're going to smoke that. Just my humble opinion.

Good Stuff ! Ive got a bunch of 50-100w led cob that im going to build a growlight of ive been using single 50-100w cob with a heatsink for single plants works just fine specially when a storebought i the same strength goes for 100-400$ pricy here in Sweden . I couldnt find a heatsink that would suffice until now , its a metall Whats it called hmm you Cary out food on them ? In stainless steel loads of space and fans can be mounted on top of it . Its a good way to build/customize your own growlight it doesnt have to be expensive and its fun to create equipment even if its not Always the cheapest way . Good Video youve made here Regards Paul-Roger

Can someone please explain how wattage works compared to a standard light as I'm confused with how it works
@autumnmaticcreations62
@autumnmaticcreations62 11 ай бұрын
Wattage is just a measure of power. The way we usually calculate it is with VoltagexCurrent. It is no different as you change light types. With most lights, we apply a voltage to them and they pull as much current as they can for that voltage. LEDs actually work the same way, but they are much more sensitive and can behave strangely, burn out, or explode as they heat up if we drive them with a constant voltage. For that reason, we usually drive LEDs with a constant current supply rather than a constant voltage supply.

Can I make a planted tank light?
@BoraHorzaGobuchul
@BoraHorzaGobuchul Жыл бұрын
Good approach. To save time, one can purchase led modules on metal strips. I used several such strips attached with automotive thermal sealant to an aluminum c-channels, then made then attached them to an aluminum frame. Using a c-channel doubles as a poor man's lens, reducing sideways light spill and redirecting it downwards. Same as here with the power supply, same with underpowering. When the time comes, I just get them out of storage and put them above the stuff that needs to grow, like cucumber plants. These lights double as work lights when needed as well.
