Dont understand why these guys always make it more difficult than it is explaining some of music theory, the tritone can be really simple,if not over complicated, but good job, at least you made the video 👍

Absolutely beautiful. I'm sure I could hear a bit of Sonny Rollins in there at various times, and I think there was some tenor madness right near the end. I don't think I've ever heard a better rhythm changes solo. I'm a beginner at jazz violin, and working through this will be very useful for me.

It swings. That's the bottom line. These cuts are designed for people like me who want to practice applying ideas and concepts we hope to incorporate into our own playing. It's especially nice when only a "select few" in the area in which I live are lucky enough to actually play jazz (as in live performance of it). Rock, hip hop, some Latin and pop is what's on deck here. I play those styles too, I'm glad I can but I really miss playing jazz! What little jazz there was is mostly gone thanks to COVID. Of course these play-alongs aren't the same as my Wed night gig at the Pec (that place one of the many that closed die to COVID). However, they're performed by players who understand the jazz language and the concept of SWING FEEL. Ron Carter??? It doesn't get much better in terms of jazz. I'm not sure if he's on this particular track but I know he's on some of these play-alongs. The changes don't have to be the choicest cherry picked harmonies from the Bill Evans library but they do have to swing and have the right overall feel. Ppl don't get that jazz is a completely different language. Some of these thumb thumping bass players with their fancy $3K 6-strings think "oh man, what's this s**t, like Lawence Welk and that it's soooo easy. Then you call a standard swing tune with a typical AABA form, and it's painfully obviois that they're completely clueless. You ask "Do.you know the form" they say "HUH??? Ah..ah..ah...I dunno. I guess". At that point I've already resigned to the fact it's gonna be a long night. I'd rather send the dude home and I kick LH bass. At least it won't be a train wreck.

The idea that the thumb replaces the nut is ultra-enlightening, but so very basically simple. It makes all the sense in the world, but I never heard it as a fundamental point for playing in thumb position...until you said it. The light bulb 💡 just came on! Thanks.
