And once your second language is near native, go ahead and practice alternating native and second languages, I hear Matt did some of that and so did I.

You need to train to speak 2 languages alternately to be good at keeping languages separate. I had a friend who was bilingual from childhood and he insisted on switching languages every few minutes. At first i was annoyed, but later i perceived it as a valuable training experience.

Yes, learning grammar of your target language IN your target language is useful. No, reading about grammar in your native language is a waste of time. This channel is being hijacked by some lame old school methodology.

I’ve never drugged anyone 😂. Like a lot of things with learning it all depends. Some people get more from immersion than others. And studying grammar works better for some people. Personally I study grammar along with doing immersion until I feel like I don’t need it anymore. I’m aiming for B2 though. I do think most people could get away with just using a dictionary or a translation to assist them with picking up grammar without studying grammar per se up to a B2 level. But especially with languages like Korean or Japanese I just am so lost that I do a lot of grammar study.

It is supposed to speed up learning. Example, It will take days/weeks to figure out all the pronouns just with Comprehensible Input. Reading a grammer book chapter on pronouns is less than one day of study. Also If your native language don't have gendered nouns and etc you may never figure out all the la, l', le, ces, cet, cette in french or understand them wrongly. Just reading a grammer book casually once helps too. Do both, CI and grammer.

I spent 2 hours a day (1hour review, 1 hour learning words and grammar). I reached N3 level in around 3 months while working on publishing papers before doing a phd exchange at UTokyo. In that time I learned around 50 new words per day and 3 grammar points. I also did a hybrid remember the kanji method where I learned the first radicals and then just learned the kanjis as they showed up in my vocab. It's not true that you can't reach a decent level with 1 hour a day. It all depends on your abilities. I can look at a word for less than 20 seconds and remember the meaning and reading with a retention rate of around 86%. I attribute the lower retention rate to memorizing 50 words + a few kanjis daily. After lowering to around 20 words it was above 90%. I did 1 hour of reading VNs every now and then. With just 1 hour a day I would reach the same level in 6 months, but probably with a higher retention rate since there is less diminishing returns in reviews. Either you're completely wrong, or my brain just works differently.

In the last few days I've noticed that video id 22 (720p with audio) is no longer showing up. I use this format in Kodi for buffering but it looks like youtube took it away. Does anyone know what's going on?

Matt is brilliant. Why doesn't he move to Japan to teach English? Certainly don't use Japanese to teach English, but at least his near native Japanese would be an inspiration for students.

Isn't learning about your second language done exclusively in the second language still immersion ? Reading same textbooks that native speakers study at school. Just different kind of immersion. How else would you learn the Grammar of a Second language ? Not in your first language, that would be dumb.

I bought refold to learn but it turns out that I already finished and I don't know what else to do, I'm already used to it and I have a habit but what else should I do, no one explains to me and I didn't know more about that course and it doesn't even appear to me to open the account.

Super cool video and great advice! It's so funny that I watched this today because today, I was going through the Refold KO1K Korean Anki earlier and did the sort of the same kind of listening practice without knowing it was a thing (I'd look away from the screen to hear the sentence first to see if I understood it before reading it written). I'd imagine I encountered someone and they just said a sentence to me--it was just kinda to see if I"d be able to recognize it in the real world. And then I happened to come across this video not too long after. It's really interesting how people reaching the same goal (in this case, language learning) sometimes start doing the same study practice techniques without knowing it! Also, I just learned another definition for the word "sage" that I didn't know before lol :)
