Amazing! That picture of pupils at Princess Road School: l remember Ray Petrie very well. Attended Great Western Street Methodist Youth Club. Circa 1952-53. Also Keith Chatterton, too. My folks had a grocery shop, 100 Great Western Street.

Didn’t like the film at all, as Bogarde’s character fancied himself a bit too much, what’s a speedway star when he’s at home?. Shall always remember my late father taking me to see speedway racing at Raleigh Weir in Essex in the 1960’s. I had no interest in the sport, my late mother didn’t like my father taking me to see the sport.

With a title like Once aJolly Swagman this Aussie lass had to watch it. Then as i watched, i saw a travelling case with my dads name on it! "R. Fox: Rail to Paris." This is a crazy coincidence as i was talking about my dad to someone the other day...he left England for Australia in 1948 and in the 1950s he joined the Australian Commonwealth Railways! I t was great to see that railway tag, brought back lots of memories...this was his era. Slightly younger than Bogarde.

Marc loved Syd Barrett’s Piper at the Gates of Dawn album as I do. He even bought one of his guitars off him. ❤

Opening chords sound like "Woodstock" (CSNY version)...both songs released in 1970, not sure which was first.

Bought this album shortly after seeing Marc and Mickey playing at Motherwell town hall in '69. Marc wore a red mini jumper, and black velvet trousers, and played his white strat for this song, sitting cross legged on the floor. For this one song, which ended the show, Mickey put down his bongos and played a simple bass line.

This song is the right song if you have the right ear to sing it to. I sing this song to perfection in the exact style of Bobby, but my lady can't seem to feel the song. I'm 15 years her senior and i believe that if she heard the Carpenter's version who made it first, then she'll feel what Bobby did to the song and appreciate when i sang it to her.

@@MrManc55 no I didn’t … I grew up in Chorlton-on-Medlock but back in the 1950’s and 60’s our little gang roamed all over Moss Side ,Hulme ,Ardwick,Longsight Rusholme ,Levenshulme , Burnage, Ladybarn , Withington , Wythenshawe , Ringway , Cheadle and Gatley , Didsbury , (east & west) Gorton, Belle Vue , So I probably had a better outlook on life than you do … you come over as very narrow minded, I grew up with mates who were black, white, yellow, catholic, protestant,Jewish,Islamic and Buddhist … we supported teams such as Man City,Man United,Oldham Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and Stockport County … we didn’t always agree with each other but we always enjoyed the banter and the piss taking … we had some of the best times of our lives and some of us are still friends to this day …. So no I didn’t grow up in The Moss … I grew up and Matured in Manchester and I’m proud of my City …..

I bought this album the first Saturday it was released. I can tell you I nearly wore it out!! Mac was unique. If he didn't like it, he never played it. That intro of Macs makes the hairs on my arms stand up. Pissed, sober or stoned with Mac what you saw was what you got. I saw the Faces 20 odd times from 69/70 through to the mid 70s when they split. Each gig was a musical education. Mac playing the shit out of any piano they gave him. Ronnie Lane chugging along with a sideways shuffle. Kenney holding it all together at the back. And Mr Wood himself seamlessly dropping in and out of lead and rhythm with ease. And I can tell you for a fact that without the Faces kicking him up the arse from behind his nibbs would not be where he is today. They made him what he is. Or should I say was. RIP Mac and Ronnie. Bless both of you big 💕

Thank you for these images, in black and white seems to make them atmospheric somehow. Born in Wellington Street (long demolished 1968) off Great Western St (still with us, apart from the pub wholly different). Remember some nice houses on Claremont Road , tall and slim were sadly demolished .
