The morning sortie usually takeoff around 8am-9am but atm most of the jets are on deployment/exercise. The 493rd Grim Reapers are in Poland atm but only there till 30th April, so after then the activity at the base should pick up. 👍🏻

Did training mission with them as they wanted the fire services from neighbouring counties to be familiar with their vehicles and equipment incase of a large scale incident. So was lucky enough to be part of the fire crews from Essex fire and rescue service to train with them and they are a fantastic brunch of people

When living on base we lived in the transition housing......our place backed up to the flight line.....it never got old watching landings and take offs.......I like the instrument night time fly by......they are practice landings....they get down to maybe 50meters and hit the after burners....it is crazy to see the flame shooting out of the back of those jets

I lived on Lakenheath for several months in 2011........I was walking down Ely Rd one day and a Stratatanker came down through Ely and Chattasham at about 1000 meters.........it was quiet and then here comes this jet that is screaming......they are allowed a low ceiling in that area....I'll remember that forever......we were living in Ely when this happened

That was a cute little plane at the 4:00 mark. It would look pretty in a skirt. I just looked and, assuming I got the silhouette correct, that's a typhoon....? What I read said it has 1/2 the range and 1/2 the payload and 4/5 of the speed of the old F15. Are there any plans in the works to improve it?

It's good to see Lakenheath is still as active as ever. The best 6.5 years of my career were spent there 1994-2000. I actually worked out at RAF Feltwell as a PMEL tech. Part of the 48 CRS. Spent a lot of time on Lakenheath calibrating the jet engine test cells. The 48th is the best fighter wing in the USAF! Met my wife in Downham Market in 1994, married in 95, daughter born in 97.
@maxmartinaviation65055 жыл бұрын
Definitely is the best wing! Always try to visit when I have spare time. Sounds like you've had an exciting career, have you been down there recently or are you not local?
