You are just absolutely amazing! I’m on the very start of my Fostering journey and your videos are the most useful in the entire KZfaq network! No other foster carer goes in to as much detail and covers all the minutest of details. Thank you SO much.

Congratulations, brilliant you deserve it, I have few questions please ,😊 1: Did you took training for becoming a foster carer? 2: I am health care worker, can I become a foster carer? 3: Do you think that foster carer is an independent job Just you are only yourself at home OR still you are working under someone Nurses,seniors staff, managers? Please reply I will appreciate 😊

Hey there, my husband and I are applying to become respite foster carers with our local LA. I just wanted to ask if you’re out under pressure or pushed into doing care etc. We don’t want to do full time care however we do want to help other families where we can. Like you we love to travel and know that this can be very restrictive as full time carers

Good for you beginning the journey. I think if you make it clear from the outset what your intentions are with fostering there should be no pressure put on you. I’ve always said I would never do long term fostering and when I started fostering I’d get a few queries about long term but I just made my position clear - it’s not something I will do (I enjoy my independent travel too much ☺️) I’m sure you’ll get asked for more occasionally as foster carers are obviously in such demand so they like to put it out there to anyone who could help but as long as you’re clear with what you will and won’t accept I’ve always found who I foster with to be very understanding. I hope that helps and good luck in your journey

As a former youth myself- I aged out in 2018 this title seems uneducated and unwelcoming. Maybe a new video title but of course it's simply my perspective. Overall listening to the video is helpful. I'll say if a foster parent sends a holiday card to a foster youth or a youth who aged out would be nice to have a meaningful message in the card because with my foster parent I have given thoughtful written cards to my former foster parent but when they send me birthday/Christmas card they were not thoughtful. They only written "happy birthday or Merry Christmas". It was a slap in the face.

I’d love for you to shed some light on how the video title is ‘uneducated and unwelcoming’ - it’s literally what the video is about. What would your suggestion be for a more educated and welcoming title?

If they didn't get paid a single penny, it would stop a lot of the abuse because then people would be doing it with only love towards the child(ren).

I love the kids I care for and I’m a great foster carer but if I didn’t get paid I simply couldn’t do it. I’m a single person and taking care of the children is a 24hr thing - how do u suggest I pay my mortgage, bills and put food on the table without being paid from fostering?

This is an IFA carer I,m sure but she's not going to tell us how much she earns per week (around £600 per child) In addition she gets money for clothing, holiday money etc. I'm not blaming the carer. The IFA directors charge local authorities an enormous amount to cover all expenses so they don't have to pay anything. The IFA's have privatised fostering and their carers don't realise that the funding comes from local authorities. It means that LAs who have been under resourced for many years, are now even more depleted because all of this money they have to pay the IFAs
@thefosteringdiaries
@thefosteringdiaries 9 ай бұрын
Firstly, I agree with everything you say about IFA verses LA. It’s one of my biggest bug bearers about ‘the system’. Secondly, it’s odd to think you know who I foster for and state it with such conviction. Lastly, I’m a LA foster carer that doesn’t get anywhere near that amount of money per week per child.

I have been watching all your videos and think they are all really helpful. Not much out there re fostering in the UK as most of the KZfaq vlog videos seem to be American. I don’t think anxiety would effect your chances. My understanding is that as long as any illness/medical condition is being managed or it’s a past issue there shouldn’t be any problems. Your GP may just make a note of it on your medical.

@thefosteringdiaries

How old is your daughter? If she’s only young they will generally look at it that she will have her own room eventually so will see it that you don’t have a spare room to foster. You could still short term foster babies though
