Can I bottom water with a wick for lavender cuttings
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 8 күн бұрын
If you're meaning just bottom watering once a week or so by using a wick then this is fine for lavender. However if you're talking about the self-watering pots that use wicks to draw moisture into the soil then this wouldn't be good because lavender definitely needs to dry out between watering and I'm afraid a self-watering pot will keep the soil too moist. 👍

I just fertilized my snake plant 3 weeks ago. Now I know the pot is too big. 2 of the leaves are turning yellow. What I do?
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 13 күн бұрын
Just repot it into a smaller pot with good drainage. 👍

What potting mix is best for a snake plant?
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 11 күн бұрын
Use a cactus and succulent soil mix. Or an indoor potting mix with extra perlite. 👍

my rubber tree has droopy and curly leaves tho the leaves at the very top are standing well. the soil is still hydrated tho. i suspect it is due to lack of sunlight cuz it's in a dark area in my living room. so i resorted to putting it under our shady part of the coconut tree..hopefully i'm doing the right thing. my rubber tree is pretty tall and no windows are suitable for it's size so the shady part outside is my only option... hopefully im doing the right thing? PLEASE SEND HELP. Newbie in planting here...
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 8 күн бұрын
The fact that your rubber tree is tall I'm assuming it is leggy? If so then it's definitely a light issue and I would recommend fixing the light issue before looking into the watering because that will change once you're light changes. Outside is fine just be careful with it getting too hot with all the heat waves we've been getting here in the US at least! Haha! Good luck 👍

I have a small rubber tree plant and i see alot of new growth. I aslo re potted it into a terricata pot And maybe the plants in shock or something but alot of the big leaves are dropping and falling off. I also have it on my coffee tabel in a high traffic area. It gets plenty of sun. I dont have drainage other then some holes at the bottom and a saucer But i love my plants and it breaks my hesrt and i get mad when they aren't at there best. I know this video is old but if somone can answer what they think my plant needs pleaee do
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 8 күн бұрын
If there's new growth but the older leaves are falling off then this is usually the plant getting leaves that match the place you moved it to. If this isn't the case then it's most likely overwatering or underwater so I would check your soil.

My plant started to get yellow leaves and even the main stem looks like it's shrivelling. I noticed i did start watering it a little more, but from yhe base... I would put water in the base and allow it to absorb up into the soil. I think i need to adjust: 1) how packed in the roots are- loosen up the soil to allow drainage / movement 2) reduce watering again according to soil moisture rather than time of the week Thank you for this video!!

How do I know when it’s time to repot my money tree?
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 28 күн бұрын
If you see roots trying to push out of the soil, or if you are watering it every day because it's drying out so fast. Pull it out and see if there are a ton of roots showing through the soil or if there isn't. It's a balance you learn more than an exact science. 👍

How can you fix the brown leaves
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Ай бұрын
If it's brown and dried up you can cut the brown part off. If it's yellow from overwatering, then you can propagate the green portion. 👍

Why does my money tree looks like it’s been cut
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Ай бұрын
Because they are cut when they reach a desired height. Then the stems can bush out to make it look more full. 😊

Hi, Great information! Question, I got my first plant and it’s one of this and the stem part where the leaves grow from is drying.
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Ай бұрын
Is this drying from not enough water in the soil? Or are the roots damaged (rotted from overwatering) so it can't take up any water? That's what you've got to figure out first. 👍

Hello! I really enjoyed this video as I am starting the journey on DIY indoor soil as well. My question is, I currently use store bought compost as well and I'm wondering what ratio you would recommend with that added in? Would it be able to replace the fertilizer or would it be separate?
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Ай бұрын
I personally don't recommend adding compost to indoor plant soil mainly due to the smell. But if it's composted thoroughly enough (which most store bought bags are not) then there shouldn't be a smell and you can substitute it in for the fertilizer. I'd estimate about a 1-1-1 ratio of peat or coco coir to compost to aeration material. All depending on the strength and source of your compost as well. 👍

This video was really helpful! I like the braided look but they also cut mine short like the one in this video. Is there a way for it to still look good if I continue to braid it or should I go for the bush look?
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Ай бұрын
If you braid it, there will be a bump in the braid where the stems were cut. So you can either be fine with the bump in the braid, or just keep it short and bushy through pruning. 👍

Sun thru southern windows depend on where you live.I live in Canada in a area where my southern windows get a lot of sun and the plants love it as our sun is not as intense as if I was living in the south part of the United States.
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel Ай бұрын
That is very true. That's why I try to distinguish it as to not to have any HOT direct sunlight! Plants love direct sunlight when it's not like they're an ant under microscope lol! 😆

@thegirlwithashovel Ай бұрын
Usually if all the leaves are gone, it will be very unlikely that it will survive. I would go ahead and get a new one. And you can keep the original just to see, but like I said, it's chances are slim. 😮‍💨

Can someone help? For a year, my snake has been in a pot that was too large. Its very tall and was always leaning and separating. (Like in the video) The roots are not very extensive (like in the video) but does have new babies. I finally repotted her yesterday into a smaller pot. But think i can go even smaller....deeper?? I tried to bunch them together while trying to back fill the pot. How much deeper on the blades can I plant her to support its own weight? Orrrr should I prop in a vase with a bit of water? I have plant velcro around it right now. Thank you.
@thegirlwithashovel
@thegirlwithashovel 2 ай бұрын
I wouldn't plant it deeper. I would keep it at the original height and prop it up with a stick or pole. After some time in the smaller pot it should grow it's own roots and be able to stay up on its own. 😊
