Sherwood Forest 🌳 is one of the Best Places to Visit in England 🏴 💚 ROBIN HOOD
@thorium37373 ай бұрын
Not a fan of all the signs, but I get why they are there. Im sure there are plenty of untouched-ish forests in England that are not full on tourist traps like Sherwood would be. Id love to see the same forests my ancestors walked through, fought in, died for. As an 1st generation australian, I dont feel as much connection to the land that I do in the UK. The history just isn't here

It was nice to see the aftermath of one of these crossings. Those fiesta engines are dirt cheap, imagine the pain of the owners of those fancy cars. Still a lot of work though. One more observation is that i thought the people who hydrolock were not at all mechanically knowledgable, so when you said this is going to be expensive I was waiting for you to tow it to a shop. Great work

Do you think you'd have made it if you went in at a crawl instead of at speed? Or was the car just too low?
@andyince9 ай бұрын
I was going far too fast, i was trying to keep a bow wave but over did it, forgot the air intake on fiestas was so low.......
@jst_TV9 ай бұрын
@@andyince Next mod, install a snorkel for the Fiesta...? 😂 But 300 pounds for a new-to-me engine + a few days of work ain't too bad, worth it for the experience
@AlwaysFaxkenCashinHandMate9 ай бұрын
1 quick question (I don’t know shite about cars). Why did you take the wheels off? Is that needed when taking out the engine?
@andyince9 ай бұрын
It is, the driveshafts have to be removed in order to disconnect the gearbox 👍
@andyince9 ай бұрын
Technically you could leave the wheels on but it allows better access to the ball joints and track rod ends, i could have left the gearbox in but decided to drop it as i installed a new clutch, clutch cylinder and output shaft seal, was much easier taking out the whole gearbox and doing the work on the bench
@Craig-wp3pz9 ай бұрын
When working on older, rear wheel drive cars, leaving the wheels on is often possible and easier, but with front wheel drive cars, the driveshafts HAVE to to be disconnected from one or both ends, if needed, hubs can be reinstalled, and wheels refitted to allow the car to be moved,

I think just about every young man at one time or another pretended to be Robin Hood. I remember when I was a kid making a sword out of two pieces of wood covered in tin foil and a bow and arrow I made from trees around our house. Great fun. It's nice to see that the forest is still around and is quite large.

How many acres of Sherwood Forest is left from the 12th Century of Robins time/ and in your research , is there proof he actually existed? I’d like to think he did.
@andyince Жыл бұрын
Good question Aaron, Officially the area covered by the forest today is around 1000 acres, however that is mostly just the area around the Sherwood forest park at Edwinstowe, of which is mostly an area called the Dukeries. Land owed by the dukes was never developed or cleared and was much part of the original Royal hunting forest. The part that is now mostly the park is probably the most protected over the years because of the hunting forest, these areas was reserved for royal hunting only and if a commoner was caught hunting in these areas they were given very heavy and sometimes deadly penalties. This was policed by the Sheriff of Nottingham. King Johns palace was a Royal hunting lodge in the forest that used to house dignitaries and visiting upper classes from which they would use as a hunting base. Later the land became the property of the dukes, around Edwinstowe it was the Dukes of Portland and therefore it was kept as parkland, the original forest however stretched much further, and covered an area of around 100,000 acres, some of this is left but not connected to the Sherwood forest park, for example the area just south of Edwinstowe, Sherwood pines, covers many 100's of acres, so the honest answer is...... nobody really knows, almost every tree from Leicestershire to Yorkshire could be counted, in my opinion id say the area between Edwinstowe and Worksop is what is left of the hunting forest. Most of the original ancient woodland and the ancient oaks in other areas was cleared to build ships to fight the Spanish Armada but replaced with pine plantations. As for Robin, I think as an outlaw the notion of robbing the rich to feed the poor is likely to be false, he more than likely kept it for himself! and there would have been many more like him, outlawed for their crimes such as poaching from the Royal forest, hiding in the depths of the forest as wanted men. Some stories do not add up, for example it is said that Robin and his men used the hollow interior of the Major oak to hide in from the Sheriff of Nottingham, however is Robins day, it would have been a sapling. In the 12th century, most people were not literate and stories were often conveyed in songs usually sang by minstrels such as Alan-a-dale and became folklore, I believe what we see from the story of Robin and his men is a cumulation of these stories creating the legend, in the 15th century plays was composed of his adventures, however as with all folklore there is always an element of truth, I think Robin did exist, along with many other bands of outlaws exiled to the forest and would have more than likely prayed upon and robbed the wealthy folk travelling the Kings road through the forest. Maybe a video on Robin and the kings road should be a future production? Hope this answers your question, thanks for watching
