Ma786sai Dua Joe what an absolutely beautiful most absorbing video. I have a 1982 Mark 1 Rolls-Royce Spirit. I think mine has a SU HIF7. She wafts in peerless timeless regal elegance. She starts up INSTANTLY. Yes my SU carbs like you say have the auto-choke. My question to you is my Rolls runs very rich. Because every few months the plugs get very black. And I have to keep opening them to clean them. How May I get the mixture WEAKENED? I believe turning the screw ANTICLOCK WISE on the SU’s will weaken. Do I need to remove Both SU hif7 to do this? God bless you. Cyrus

Dude this video is amazing. Thank you. Rebuilding some HD8s right now and this is great. How much slop does there need to be to install the bushings? I have just BARELY any slop in the shaft, but a tiny amount.

Great video. Questions: do I really need to change those bushings? Everyone else's video skips that part. How do I tell if the bushings need to be changed? How much play is normal? Am I right that HD8's don't have to be reamed because the bushings has prevented the carb body from being worn. Thanks for this!!

Hey Joe, I was informed a Weber 32/36 setup would not work as well as SU's on my 2.0l Volvo engine. The car came with the Weber, and I was sold a pair of SU's to replace them. We rebuilt the motor and added the cam, porting and O/S piston setup. Question is do I rebuild the SU's or go with the Weber? Are the SU's a better carb setup for a mod motor?

Hola Joe. Muy instructivo el video. En los Stromberg 150, que diferencia hay entre las agujas 5 S y 6 Z. En que rango de RPM conviene usar una o la otra. Gracias.

After a rebuild on my HD8 carbs the pistons drop as desired/expected. When I add oil to the damper the piston no longer moves freely. ??? I don't understand this. Do I have to go back and adjust the jet again because of the oil in the damper???

Doing these now, 2022, with Joe's rebuild kits. Brilliant kits. The bushings can be maddening. By the 3rd one I kinda got the hang of it. Don't overlook this. If your shaft bushings are worn/loose the engine will never run properly.

Hi Joe, I’ve replaced the needle assembly in my left hs2 classic mini carb however it occasionally leaks after hard acceleration. The float seems to be fine (the plastic non adjustable type) what could be the issue? The right carb has not leaked once as uses the same brand of new needle.

Nice Video Joe, maybe you can help me out. I have a Jag S-type 66, with 2 SU HD.6 Carbs. In the middle sits an auxilary starting Carburetter, Afther renewing them and put in some new parts, the gasoline keeps poring out off the starting carburetter and it seems that the carburetter it is connected with does not shut. Any Ideas what might be the problem? I follewed all the instructions from the book. Greetings Arie Zwolle/holland

It might seem strange that RR had problems with the same carburetor that worked fine on the MGB. But i think it comes down to basic physics. if the heat or cold source to the carburetor was different on the two or the vibrations it would have affected the malfunction in a positive way. And then you dont have to knock the carburetor with a wrench that in many cases are the solution to a problem.

Your hot water test on the brass floats solved what has been a nagging problem on my 66 Mark X 4.2. 2 of 3 floats failed by bubbling from tiny cracks I’d never see with the naked eye. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time with the rest of us!
