@@Mibit911Technically as soon as you let go of the clip, it *should* close the bolt. As long as you retain pressure on the clip as you insert it, the bolt should remain open.

Beautiful piece of history. But please go buy a replica 1911 A1 for heavy shooting and competition. Those pistols are almost 100 years old. They’re a collectors piece. Don’t wear it out. You can buy a Tisas 1911 A1 US army clone that is extremely accurate to the real deal. They cost $400 bucks and you can put thousands of rounds through it.

I bought a few of these post war Bullet Guides in the wrap to have to have. The accelerator point is higher and matches the peened one I have. But I am finding that they don’t seem to fit inbeween the receiver legs and are wider than my older bullet guide. My receiver is a 1943 Springfield.I was expecting it to drop in. I have only opened the one. If this a part that needs fitting or are post war receivers a little wider? I tool a file to it but am so so at fitting things and it is slightly off so harder to get the pin in. But it does time right. Curious if this should even need fitting.

Im not by any means an expert so please excuse me if i offer a stupid suggestion, but what are the date stamps on the packaging if any? Are they for .308 M1s? Not sure if theres a major difference between the two besides the chamber and that block in the magazine well to prevent 30-06 from going in.

Is there any way to time it for correct operation with a 5 round clip? Lets leave it at my state wont allow more than 5 rounds. When I push down the 5 rounder it neither locks in place or sends the bolt forward. I have to hold the clip with 1 thumb and give the oprod a tug with the other hand and release so it strips the first round. If a traditional 8 round clip is used, its perfect. If it is what it is, that's fine but I was just curious

A few months ago I received a CMP Expert grade M1 and was surprised at the low serial number 24XXX. I shot several clips of Grand approved ammo and had the 7 th round jam on every clip. Cleaning, lub, different maker of clips solved the issue. Believe it or not, I also felt everything was too tight and needed more shooting to loosen a few things up. In your video I notice your rifle has the same “dimple” on the top of the recall repair as mine. I wonder why the dimple is there.

Actually a properly timed M1 is not supposed to release but should require a tap ( saw a clip of Mr Garand his rifle required a slap on first round) he designed it to do that thus no one should be getting a Garand thumb😄

Funny thing, I just bought a m1 garand from the CMP, and it was having the same timing issues you describe. As I examined the mechanics of it it seemed like the hump on the bullet guide was a little too high, and I confirmed it with my calipers. I filed and stoned a small amount off the hump, and now the timing is perfect. I wonder if maybe it was the same case for your rifles. Maybe the CMP is using brand new bullet guides that haven't been fit to the rifles yet, and thats why the timing is off. If you still have the bullet guides that came with your rifles, maybe try taking a little material off and see if the timing is corrected....

Try using a different clip. If that don't solve the problem it could be a second bad clip latch spring or the clip latch itself is worn and needs replacing. Also I have seen the clip latch pin being bent cause a Garand to go wonky.

Just received (11/17/22) my CMP "Service " grade.. GRATEFUL for CMP and the work they do. My snit is his "field grade" is more "genuine " than mine. The slide on mine is tagged "GI Rep" on a Remington Rand frame serial number in late 1943 production, a late model magazine. There is no way to determine when the slide was joined to the frame or who manufactured it. This questions the authenticity and any subsequent value. SO, it now becomes a "shooter" not an "investment " relic in the gun locker. I'll STILL enjoy having it. CHANGE 1. I found out that NO NAME reproduction slide is a genuine Colt made National Match Hard slide with a chrome lined barrel (.45 AUTO '85). Certainly changed my opinion of my pistol and THANKS CMP.
