Just received (11/17/22) my CMP "Service " grade.. GRATEFUL for CMP and the work they do. My snit is his "field grade" is more "genuine " than mine. The slide on mine is tagged "GI Rep" on a Remington Rand frame serial number in late 1943 production, a late model magazine. There is no way to determine when the slide was joined to the frame or who manufactured it. This questions the authenticity and any subsequent value. SO, it now becomes a "shooter" not an "investment " relic in the gun locker. I'll STILL enjoy having it. CHANGE 1. I found out that NO NAME reproduction slide is a genuine Colt made National Match Hard slide with a chrome lined barrel (.45 AUTO '85). Certainly changed my opinion of my pistol and THANKS CMP.

Awesome《☆》Thanks for sharing this wonderful peice of Military history👍Your knowledge is greater than many other collectors on KZfaq. I wouldn't mind having a 1911 in similar functional condition. I'm Happy with my Rock Island 1911A1 Commander. It's got enough wear on the parkerized finish & very few markings other than the serial number. I installed burlwood colored Crimson Trace lasergrips on it & painted the front sight florescent green. It's a lot of fun🖖🤓🏈

Yeah, if you are just looking for a "good gun" for the money you can get a technically superior modern pistol for less money. These are all about future investment, nostalgia, owning a piece of history kind of stuff. If you don't care about any of that, an old GI 1911 isn't for you! Good luck with your channel! I subbed. Looking forward to more content :)

Well, I finally got a call from a sweet sounding southern lady from Alabama. They only had rack grades, so I did what reasonably minded folk would do. It is still at my FFL since Illinois has a three-day waiting period for handguns. Its a Colt frame and slide and from what I could see it's in good shape with minor pitting. I'm happy.

For the safety issue and the slide stop I would suggest a new spring (& detents?) for the plunger tube to start. There hopefully is still plenty of videos on here how to replace them if not I'm sure you could find them elsewhere. As for parts I've heard many times Wolf makes a good spring kit (if you choose to replace all, I would) and I'm sure Wilson Combat has them as well. If your slide stop and safety are in fact so worn they are the cause of the issues you can order standard mil spec replacements from a lot of vendors (Brownels). In your case if you go that route I'd order the parts parkerized (or blued if not an option) and lightly rub them with super fine emery cloth til they appear to match the finish of your 1911. Good luck and if you do a full spring kit and/or the safety/slide stop swap definitely post a video running it after tune up!

The CMP advertised their 1911s as having some commercial parts on all their grades with the exception of the auction grade. When I ordered my $1050 1911 I was very excited. When it arrived I got very frustrated. I disassembled it and found that all the parts with the exception of the frame were replacement parts. Then they updated their website to say that the 1911s may contain commercial parts when they should state the 1911 may contain all commercial parts would have been transparent. My 1911 was all commercial parts. I get that the Army's armorers will replace parts as needed with what they have. That I don't have an issue with that but when those 1911s are transferred to the CMP and when they disassemble each one and find out that a substantial number has commercial parts they should be honest. The only thing WWII about mine was the frame manufactured in early 1945. Everything else is commercial and miss matched. Mine should have had the serrated hammer, slide stop, thumb safety and MSH but they were mixed of checkered and serrated. So I sold it at an auction for $1800. At least yours has a matching frame and slide.

going by the tail on the rampant colt the slides a 1942 production as it has two bulbous sections rather than just one. its a valuable slide it was only done in 1942.their should be a serial number under the firing pin retainer the 800xxx range. mines number 8085xx. and from all the barrels ive inspected and tested the flanerey bolt company made the best ones aside from the match barrels ive seen. ide be tempted to replace the hammer with a wide short spur with fine checkering along with slide stop and safety lever.. its not hard to improve these with some elbow grease and know how. i got lucky i bought a bring back that had ben converted to a match pistol and blued witch is why i was able to score a numbers matching 1942 colt that shoots better than a les bayer for 300$! now if i was looking for a platform for a custom build ide go for the low grade on cosmetics and have a masterpiece built on a gi frame and slide! cause those are awesome!
