I agree with what he says on there being value in learning from those you disagree with. The issue I have is him prescriptively saying it considering he seems to use the most cartoonish straw men when discussing those he disagrees with. Making it make less sense when he’s asked for actual solutions he says we just need to talk. This video is old, so I don't expect a reply. But I do find it quite interesting how the rhetoric here used to describe abortion propaganda almost exactly describes the way we discuss veganism. The obvious discrepancy is that eating a burger probably has some meaningful ethical differences from actually killing the animal, but there certainly exists a link there. And the way that vegans are expected to be polite, the way many of them distance themselves from the vegans who "take it too far" is reminiscent of the way pro-lifers do the same thing. I guess the main point here is that when you say something like "it's preposterous that this husband who believes abortion is murder would willingly marry someone who performs them", it's probably equally preposterous for a vegan to marry a meat-eater. (I appreciate the fact that my analogy would be more precise if I were to say 'butcher', but you get the idea).
