Hello Silas. I am a big xc/track fan and due to that I think the youtube algorithm fed me your small and new channel. I was interested in what seemed like a small town/school atmosphere, so I researched a little bit and it appears to me that your dad is a pastor and you fairly recently (Oct 2022) unfortunately lost your mom. I am so impressed with your obviously faith driven life and wonderful attitude; very impressive. IMPORTANT . . . please share this with your dad, as I would prefer to be communicating with him, as your father and adult, not directly to you as a minor . . . but I am making a big assumption that budgets are always tight in a pastor's family . . . please tell your dad that I humbly offer my financial support to your athletic endeavors, as I am a huge supporter of youth in high school athletics and I know having a good supply of shoes and athletic apparel, etc, could be a challenge for you. If you and dad would like support, please reply telling me so and we could figure out how to do that. I looked up what I think is an Instagram account for you (silas_kimberley_) to try to DM you, but it is a provte account. Anyways, my best to you and my condolences on mom passing. Again, communicate with dad and if help is appropriate, let's pursue that.

@silaskimberley 27 күн бұрын
Wow, I’m impressed! Yeah the things you can do to prepare for hard races is train a lot, (both physically and mentally) and get your nutrition down. I felt like it took a while basically a lot of different gels and things upset my stomach so the Maurten Gels and a drink mix called Tailwind are the best clean fuel I’ve found so far so I think for cramps just nutrition has helped me the most!

I got down to a 4:25 through high school and the SINGLE biggest factor to going from a roughly 5:00 miler to 4:30 was the duration of the training proceeding the race (and puberty). My senior year I had my most consistent and volumous training block over the winter, between XC and track. This allowed me to start track season in better shape than what I was at the end of XC. If you want to break it and more during your senior season just make sure you are consistently training and try to build the training volume over time.
@silaskimberley

Thank you so much! I’m planning on building to 100 mile week this summer… how high did you get too?
@HowlingFantods
@HowlingFantods Ай бұрын
@@silaskimberley 100 miles a week would be super impressive. I never got above 70 miles a week. Im not saying you couldnt do that but be careful not to get injured in the process. Parker Valby has been showing how effective doing some low impact cross training at threshold effort can be for injury prevention so dont rule that out as an option if the increased volume starts taking a toll (she does it on the ARC trainer).
@silaskimberley
@silaskimberley Ай бұрын
For sure, during the summer speed work often gets neglected… So I’ll probably reconsider the amount verse the volume

@@silaskimberley You have the potential to be a decent runner your senior season. Late puberty. I went from 5 ft 10 to 6 ft 4 from Junior to Senior year. Just make sure you are taking in plenty of calories to fuel your training as its very difficult to eat as much as your body is using for growth/training right now. Good luck on your progress. Hey man I wish you nothing but the best in your journey, it certainly was a long road for me to break 5:00. I’m currently just starting my track season with a PR of 4:51 after being stuck just above 5:00 for the longest time. I noticed in your race video your cadence was pretty slow, and I think improving that would help you massively. The biggest thing that helped me get to the next level was upping my cadence. Before I broke 5:00 I was doing everything I could and I just couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting any faster, but after trying and trying I noticed it is much more efficient to run with a cadence above 175, yes it is very awkward and uncomfortable at first, but if you push through that awkwardness eventually your body will adapt. My cadence on most runs and races used to be around 160 but ever since I broke 5:00 it has always remained above 175. When I started I liked to think of my legs as a machine that push my feet into the ground as I ran instead of just falling to the ground, allowing for faster turnover. Then eventually this just came naturally and I got a lot quicker. Hope you have an amazing track season and I hope this helps!
@silaskimberley
@silaskimberley 2 ай бұрын
Hey man, thank you so much for taking the time to write out this tip! I’ve been working on keeping a forward lean during races and focusing on pushing off the ground instead of falling into it like you said. I’ll definitely try it out today, hope we can stay in contact on here!
