I never played a sport in my life but for the first time I REALLY want to do fencing. Sadly the closest fencing academy is an hour away, and my father doesn’t believe it’s a real sport and wants me to play basketball. I told him no, and that I refuse to do any other sport except for fencing. I have no idea how to convince them to let me join 🥲

Stop complaining about workload; it is about the same (if not, less than) as elite Canadian universities. At least a Princeton engineer is basically guaranteed a six figure job right after graduation. Students from other universities have to grind through adulthood to be on the same level as you whereas you get everything on a silver platter.

I disagree with the idea that colleges do not care about part time work. Part time work shows duty and responsibility. Lots of opportunity to practice autonomy, mastery and independence. Also, for business majors…having first had experience with a company is valuable information.

Well studying in an elite university suppose to be a tough experience and putting in 70 hours that actually include hours for non academia activities does not sound like an overkill. And for mentioning top companies coming to campus to treat students, that sounds like something extremely attractive for others. I do not doubt your complains are not genuine and should be some food for thought, but at the same time, your video makes Ivy league more attractive to get in because of the perks.

So during my junior year of high school, I had severe depression, which dropped by gpa down to 3.9 since it was insanely hard to study. I got a B+ in the subject I wanted to major in because I didn’t review(that’s how depression is), and I’m doing my applications rn and I’m rushed as shit. The issue is many subject of interest, physics, I mainly studied on my own time at home. I’d pull out the laptop watch lectures take notes and solve problems. I also play heavy metal guitar and draw comic art. Is this salvageable to get into a top school like Harvard or caltech?

So I'm hoping to major is Business Management at Columbia, and I'm kind of struggling with the "why major" question because this major choice is actually relatively new. Anything I research on Columbia's website seems outdated or doesn't reflect the new changes that Columbia is making in the next academic year. How can I get Columbia-specific if I can't find any relevant details about the Business Management major?

About the cafe food it's not always bad like if you go to a private school they have great food. Also the main reason why high school sucks s because we are wasting our time learning and memorizing random stuff we probably won't use in real life.

Eagle Con in Cal State LA can also host a Mario Smash Bros video game tournament. I went like wow! High School never did that. There was a time when Eaglecon took us to Marriot Hotel. I went like wow, high school does not offer us any offsite party event. Eaglecon lets us come and go as we please. I went like wow, high school parties/events do not let student come and go as they please. Eaglecon also do not shame students for doing homework. I went like wow, when I attended high school, attending parties or events means I have to fall behind on homework schedules.

I will tell you that when I went to Cal State LA, the club Eaglecon had attracted me the most. What I like about it is it is optional. In high school, teachers and parents will make sure students get involved in social activities and high school is known to refuse to take no for an answer. Then when something goes wrong, high school will refused to admit fault and will allow popular students pick on solitude students who attend social events. High school is not capable of creating an anti bully system and refuse to admit fault due to their tradition. When a popular student lied about me being a stalker, a teacher believes it. So in high school, popular students gets away bullying others without getting in trouble even if they get caught. As for college, they leave solitude student alone, and they let student come and go as they please.

This might be a bit long, but I really need some advice so please bear with me. Can I choose my passions as the study of business in the real world (as in getting actual experiences, understanding how it works, etc) and culinary? Apart from that, I'm looking to go in either biology or business. I'm not sure what, so I've been doing a lot of STEM and business competitions (such as being a part of the monthly magazines, helping to host an international level comp at our school for business, taking part in business pitch and essay comps, being an SSLT representing the business section (SSLT is student senior leadership team)). For science I've done competitions and have been shortlisted for a few competitions due to my high performance in bio + chem and got top 10 in an international science bowl team event. What else could I do for science and culinary? And how do I better portray my interest in business?
