This lecture is wrong. Energy from an antenna is most efficient when the largest possible amount goes in the direction of the intended receiver. Hence up and down for RC is mostly a waist of energy. Sorry for sounding rude.

Mate, excellent video like always. I was wanting to pick your brain if I may. Large scale T-228 Trojan RC aircraft, 111" span. Fiberglass construction, no CF. Power using 2 x Spektrum SAT type Rx that each have the long whisker type AE leads. RX1 is on bottom of the fuz just behind wing fitment point. I have the AE leads 90 degrees opposed in the horizonal plane, one points fore and aft, the other at right angle to it. RX2 is on side wall of fuz ~200mm from Rx1, it again has the AE leads 90 degrees opposed but I have it 45 degrees in the vertical compared to say fore aft horizonal line. JR 12X 2.4 DSMX with folding dipole AE, my intent would be to have the TX AE folding section in the horizonal plane to keep both TX & RX AEs in a horizontal polarised plane. I know you discuss using vertical polarisation for your drones so just wanted to get your input on my setup. TIA. cheers Peter

Thank you! Very interesting comparision! I have the 10 mW Boscam TS333 from crushed very old Phantom I quadrocopter and build my first drone. I want to use it, but can't find datasheet for this rare video TX ))) Will use it for my quad, I hope, 10 mW will be good for small distancecs up to 100 meters.

Hi Bruce! I should have seen this video much early! I have learned a lot! My mistakes: too much heat, lead on the iron, flux evaporates, lead free tin (I think just this is sold in Germany), tin gets spikes, applying hard flux on the soldering iron tip. I have bought an 150 W soldering iron with a big copper tip from Amazon. It makes strange noises like the oven in a sauna haha but it works super great on my LiIon cells! never had such good results :) But I´ll need to finish that before I yell victory...

Great easy to understand video! Thanks! As a former hang glider pilot for over 3O years I have a lot of experience actually flying, Flying Wings. In particular I was an avid Class II Rigid Wing Hang Glider pilot over the years. Class 1 hang gliders are the traditional Delta (Rogollo) Wing design where the pilot solely uses body weight shift to change the CG for pitch, roll & yaw control. Class II rigid wings use either a combination of weight shift and aerodynamic control ( weight shift for pitch and tip rudders for roll/yaw ) or full 3 axis control ( combination of tip rudders, elevens and on some designs, inboard flaps). Class II full aerodynamic control hang glider pilots can sometimes still use minor body weight shift to make subtle CG changes too for better trim etc. Class II hang glider flying wings I flew, included Icarus II, Easy Riser, Icarus V, Fledgling, Apex, and the famous Mitchell Wing. All of these designs except the Mitchell Wing had some aerodynamic twist (washout) to reduce overall stall speed and reduce inboard wing stall/spin potential especially when thermal soaring and making turns at or near minimum sink rate airspeed which can be close to stall speed. Several of the last Mitchell Wing foot launched gliders built that I know about actually incorporated 3 degrees washout to reduce stall/spin tendency too which greatly improved spin prevention. So I would love to see you make a Flying Wing Video # 3 discussing things like washout, stall / spin design improvement, pros & cons of use of Flaps in addition to Elevons too. Finally I would like to draw attention to the Swift 25:1 L/D flying wing glider designed by Stanford University, Aerospace Engineering back in the 1990’s which is the most advanced and highest performing flying wing Class II, FAR 103 compliant ( Under 154lbs weight glider ever made. It can be foot launched and landed like a hang glider as well as auto, winch and aircraft tow launched and even bungee cord launched. Most incredibly they now have an electric motor launched E-Swift version!!! Thanks!

Wot ho Bruce, Just watched four years late, my ASP 52 ABC motor has quite a large muffler, inside of this there is a multi holed baffle, not only dose the make this engine very quite, it’s fuel efficient because of the pulse made inside of this muffler helping to push the unburnt fuel from exiting or some such waffle. Way back in 62 my first motorbike was a 125 BSA Bantam, the carb had a strangler which was also had a choke leaver that cut off the air, inside this strangler was some wire wool this caught the fuel which was blown back by the engine, the wire wool caught this fuel and was reused.. it was a gutless thing. Still Ride motorbikes and on the odd occasion let other fly my plane I’ve build, over the years I had a few goes at flying RC not good I leave this to others with more skill. I prefer making free flight. Nice to see your still flying, although I did enjoy when you made the models..

I wasn't fleeced. I only paid 30 bucks for mine plus shipping was free. I know it isn't much and don't have all the bells and whistles, but I would be p*ssed too if mine was advertised as something it isn't and I haven't seen any considering it is a 2024 model.

Jordi, I have a phantom 3 advanced and have been looking at helical and biquad antennas. I am concerned about a direct short across the antenna or a open because I don't want to damage the transmitter. My panel antenna measures 52 ohms yet the omni antenna measures open. Can you tell me what minimum load antenna can place on the transmitter? I don't see this issue explained anywhere. Thank You

@10:38 😳💁🙈 It is not turned into lift, but additional drag (you are compounding the presser in that region, thus more drag ), which is extremely exaggerated when using tapered propellers inside of a duct. This is well known to greatly decrease the efficiency of the propeller and increase the motor or engine load. The propeller tip vertices can happen down to 4 µm, so your propeller tip to the duck housing needs to be extremely narrow, so as to reduce that loading, otherwise you compound the loading as I noted above and in your example.

PERHAPS IT'D BE WORTH DOING SOME ""BREAK TESTS", ON ANY WIRE, USED FOR FOAM CUTTING, AND FIND OUT THE POINT AT WHICH IT CAN RELIABLY HOLD A "MAXIMUM" TENSION, AND THEN REDUCE THAT BY A REASONABLE %, AS A SAFETY MARGIN,... THEN ALWAYS SET UP ANY FOAM CUTTING WIRE WITH THE "PROPER TENSION", TO ASSURE MINIMAL DEFLECTION OF THE WIRE, DURING THE CUT.
@guloguloguy
@guloguloguy 18 күн бұрын
IF YOU WERE TO STAND YOUR FOAM BLANK UP, ON EDGE, WITHE THE TRAILING EDGE DOWN TOWARD THE TABLE, AND LEADING EDGE UP, TOWARD THE CEILING), AND CUT MOSTLY IN THE VERTICAL "UP" DIRECTION", YOU MIGHT GET SUBSTANTIALLY CLEANER, FASTER CUTS, (BECAUSE THE WIRE WOULD BE CUTTING INT PREHEATED FOAM, (FOAM HEATED PRIOR TO THE PASSING OF THE WIRE,.. USING THE ADVANTAGE OF THE "RISING HEAT"...

Umm, you won't be doing anything "legally" (at least this side of the planet) to get the 20km range unless you're using high-gain, narrow-directional antennas. Most of the "cheap" commercial stuff today can do it (Walksnail, DJI, etc. ), just, if you have the "smarts, patience and money" (SPaM). There's a few vids on YT showing this kind of thing already (but it isn't cheap). Jordi's got a long way to go before this will make it to a store near you (or even the military) and he's been at it for quite a while now already I believe.

There has been a US Supreme Court ruling on a matter which has nothing to do with rc toys and FPV goggles but it does impact them potentially. The Court ruled on a matter known as Chevron Deference and this dealt with how all these regulatory offices like the FBI, CIA, EPA, ATF... and FCC have started making rules with fines and prison consequences but they are not elected officials, just bureaucrats. In the US our Constitution clearly lays out that Congress creates and passes laws, not unknown employees who have worked the system all their lives. This whole FPV, Remote ID thing was pulled out of some alphabet Agencies ass, all new definitions and requirements and laws and penalties will likely be wiped away the first time someone legally challenges these rules now. It is changing the way ATF has been messing with the 2nd Amendment here in the US, it will apply to our toys soon enough.
