Office politics and working in an office is utter hell. I've worked in both white and blue collar jobs with a background in manual labour, plumbing, and irrigation and sprinkler systems when I was a teen to now. I'm 27 now and considering moving somewhere warmer with a focus on horticulture in the future. Feeling lost with what I wanted to do with life, all the benefits and opportunities, it feels like my life's opened up to so much different opportunities... Starting wage at certain jobs I"m chasing are decent paid too with reliable and sustainable work... Hands on for life, people who are able to do this kind of work and get this passionate about it are pretty much destined to live happy, fulfilled lives from my experience.

Been working in retail for nearly ten years. Unfortunately my previous degree didn't really offer me the kind of opportunities I'd hoped for. Started an SVQ in Horticulture and landscaping a few months ago up in Scotland. Really love it and seems like it is already proving me opertunities even at the basic level I'm at now. Totally agree with you assessment of the subject.

Why is the first book so hard to find online? I saw 2 that were pre-owned. There was another book with the same title but different cover, looked older and way cheaper. Is it the same thing? Do you know? Thank you! Maybe it's not sold in the US... ):

I am glad that I watch your video, thx for sharing. I am at my 30s and want to have a career change to horticulture. I don't know how to start with as apprenticeship is so competitive and lots of job turn me fown. I think I need to get some qualification at first (now I only have level one) and maybe find gardeners like you. Hope I can get experience😢

I would like to become a gardener but I feel worried about the fitness aspect of the job. Do you need to be really really fit? I would say I have average fitness but a lot of the job postings say they want people who are strong and physically fit.
@owensoutdoors6142
@owensoutdoors6142 Жыл бұрын
A lot of these adverts are aimed at 'men' the details of the job often include building/landscaping rather than just horticulture. I started out with below-average fitness levels and now have good stamina and strength. Gardening uses different muscles and is quite labour intensive, in a way that you can't build up at the gym, so if you're starting with average fitness I would say that's more than adequate for the job!

I really want to get into this, I’ve grown gardens in zone 9b for multiple years now but the main thing I want to do is aquatic horticulture for aquariums and that type of stuff. I run a cleaning business for aquariums is a very fulfilling job but I really want to jjst grow aquatic plants. How did you make the transition into going into straight horticulture need the inspiration to leave my job at a deli haha

Harlan, not from me on botany, I'm afraid. It's my first purchase on the topic. I am sure there are others, but I think this one has got a nice style and is not too scientific. I've also considered the Latin and Geaneology books. They would look nice as a collection.

If they pay you by the hour, you should slow down, lol.. It's a hard work! Don't kill yourself. 🌱 I know, this is just a sped up recording, but I mean the speed you work with. And if you work fast and can't slow down, charge them by the project/ job 😉
