Saw this movie when I was about 10 as well. Rewatched it a couple days ago expecting to be dissapointed. But instead the beauty of it just hit 10 times as hard!

I saw a preview of this movie at the theatre when watching another movie I had already forgotten. A year or two later I decided to watch this online with no expectations but to pass time. I finished that movie with an unexplained feeling of passion. Few months later, a friend invited me to rock climb since I told him I'd be interested to try. When I got to his house Jose Gonzales was playing which reminded me of this movie and being spontaneous. To top it all off, he suggested to leave our phones in the car while walking to the spot. Still a memory that is ingrained vividly in me. Fast forward a few years I explored the world in the same way Walter in the movie did. To this day, I wholeheartedly believe this movie was some the impetus to this unrelenting adventurous side of me.

I agree with everything you said - but you missed out on one very important element ----------------- The Music. Ben went to a lot of trouble to pick the exact songs he wanted to carry the story along.

I watched this movie when I was about 12/13 years old, an intense day dreamer and at the brink of starting to figure out what it's like to not be a kid. I haven't watched the movie since but I still remember large chunks of it and it continues to have an impact on me. The song "Stay Alive" by José González from the soundtrack is one I listen to frequently especially when I'm feeling lost

I feel like the Secret Life of Walter Mitty can only become more relatable with time due to more people retreating from reality, you see it sometimes in places like Japan where they have a term for it, being "Hikkikomori" even so, around the world there are alot of Younger age people who've felt like Walter, regardless of it being a small town job or their bedroom, Walter Mitty, at least the way i look at it, represents the Everyman's dream to Get out and go far away so-to-speak... Earth is vast and rich, and all it takes is a step to go out, i know it's getting corny here, but, Go ahead and get out there, a photographer may have taken a picture of where you want to go, but you going there is in of itself a new picture in person.

I think your right about the sky, but I bring a different meaning. I think it's also saying the sky is normal. It's just like the sky out of your window, in saying that I believe it's saying the sky's normal Walter's normal, and yet he's doing all of these crazy things. I think the sky starts the idea of "do what you want"

I just came back from Iceland on Monday and watched this movie last night once again. It hit way harder having gone around the whole country of Iceland and seeing all the filming spots. I visited the bar which is sadly just an abandoned building, I passed on the road where he biked next to the mountain under the power lines, I drove down to that town which he longboarded down. That town is called Seydisfjordur. It's lovely. This movie made me feel. Really feel. It made me realize that we all have our own lives that can be both rich or bland. It's ultimately up to us to jump into the unknown every once in a while because you never know what you might get out of it. That trip to Iceland genuinely changed my outlook on so many things about me and my life. A big part of me didn't wanna go and after coming back I am so happy I went. That uncomfortable feeling lead to be one of the most impactful experiences of my life in the most positive way. Jump into the unknown. Feel uncomfortable. See behind walls. If nothing changes, nothing changes.

When I was in high school, my english teacher had us read the short story and then took a group of us to see the movie in the theater. I didn’t remember feeling too connected or even that interested in the story, but the movie really touched me. To this day it’s still one of my favorite movies of all time. Ben Stiller’s films are really something special.

I ALSO HAS A GREAT SPIRITUAL EPIPHANY WHEN I FIRST SAW THIS IN MY PRISON CELL AT EASTERN KENTUCKY CORRECTIONAL COMPLEX. MY GREAT AWAKENING KINDA BEGAN WITH THIS MOVIE. I WROTE THIS IN MY NOTEBOOK AT THE END OF THIS MOVIE. I WAS BORN DECEMBER 5 OF 1975 SO I AM A LOT OLDER THAN YOU BUT IN SOME WAYS THE SAME AGE... I WROTE THIS AT THE END OF THE MOVIE IN 2014. TO HELP PEOPLE AND TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER. TO BE KIND AND GENEROUS TO ALL OF GOD'S CREATURES. THIS IS THE PURPOSE OF LIFE. A MOVIE I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET. ONE OF MY FAVORITES. IT IS A REMAKE OF A 1947 MOVIE.

I watched this movie with I was in my 1st year of college. They took all of us 1st years into the amphitheater and played this movie for us. I don't know who's idea it was and I will never know, but the movie rattleted me to my core. Since then I have shared it with many special people in my live. I've shared it with my parents and some of my extended family, it has become a favorite in the household during the holidays and everytime we find posts about it on social media we share it with each other. I'm watching this video because just now someone shared a picture of the movie with me. I shared it with my 18 y/o cousin, who's like the little sister I never had. She said it's "one of the best movies I have ever watched." We wanna watch it again when she comes by for christmas.

I’m 22 and my mom is 59 and at this age I see her slowly being taken over from the mom I grew up with into an old woman. She still loves me but instead of being ready to move on from me outgrowing her, she’s outaging me. This was an awesome commentary. Thanks for spotlighting this gem. Can't believe it's already been a decade since this movie came out. I saw back then when I was 26, and it's been one of my favorite films ever since. Great direction, the soundtrack fits perfectly, and the cinematography is a masterstroke. It hits all the right notes about feeling stuck in life, waiting on the sidelines, and then ultimately making a choice to step out of one's comfort zone ultimately seeking a personal purpose. Especially as I get older, the movie gains more value. I thought Ben Stiller hit it out of the park here.
