Now this is one of the better home DIY ways to make a spring. I often need to make small springs I cannot find locally and tomorrow I am going to make me a jig like this. Thank you for this video.

I'm going to steal this idea very simple and practical. Think I'm going to try it with high tensile fence wire though especially for bigger sizes. You might look into it and find you like it better than the soft wire but will harder to bend for sure.

I was able to find it from the sketchup warehouse by searching for "Table Saw Stop Block". After you do the search, at the top of the search page there is options tabs for what type of search you want. Please select the "Models" tab, after you select that the stop block model will show up. It's not the most user friendly search engine...

Glad you like the design. Eventually I'm hoping to make a part 2 video to incorporate some additional spring making features. However I still use this spring maker when I need a custom spring and am pleased with how it turned out. In my opinion it's definitely worth the time to make if you need custom springs.

Hi, I was curious if having the steel plate behind makes a difference? When placing the magnetics side by side how can you tell the poles are alternating like you mention? Your design is the best I've seen and having a longer run makes a difference to see the speed. Thanks!

Sorry for delay responding, I've been off youtube for a long time. Glad you like the coin slider video and design. To respond about your questions, when making this project I tried with and without the steel plate. The result was that the coins drop quite a bit slower with using the steel plate. I would recommend you do this same experiment with/without the steel plate to prove it to yourself. The reason why is because the steel plate acts like a conductor of magnetic energy forcing the energy upward towards the coins instead of allowing it downward where it's of no use. Far as determining magnet polarity, the way I did it is to add the first magnet to the start of the steel plate, then bring a second magnet near the first magnet (having it in the orientation as if you were going to add it to the steel plate). But before you add the second magnet, check if it attracts or repels to the first magnet (being careful not to have it attract to the steel plate). If the two magnets repel then add the second magnet to the steel plate in the orientation you're holding it. If they attract then flip the second magnet over so that it repels then add it to the steel plate. In other words, when magnets attract then you know they are opposite polarity and you want alternating opposite polarity facing upward. Then just repeat this process for more magnets. If you get it wrong it will be obvious when sliding a silver coin, it will go from slow to fast if orientation is wrong. Also the rare earth magnets are fragile so had to be be careful when determining orientation or adding to steel plate, I broke one or two accidentally allowing them to slam together. Point being I'd suggest ordering a couple more than you need for your project.

I use the big clips from HarborFreight. They are a little thicker. And larger I can swing all the wrenches around and just take out the one I need without removing the rest.
@True_Lou
@True_Lou 10 ай бұрын
It's a good point that we must always weigh the pros/cons of storage options on what's most important. And glad you checked out the video. Not to throw rocks at the harbor freight ones but in my opinion those do have several cons i can think of, they take excessive amount of force to unlatch wrenches (maybe they've improved them since I seen them years ago), they quickly become way more expensive than DIY if you need a fair amount of clips I resell used USA tools and have made about 100 of these DIY clips so far harbor freight cost is a non-starter for me, they take up more tool box space, and are not customizable in size (ex arguably too big for tiny ignition wrench set or if you wanted to size the clip so it's exact size for your set).
@chaselesser3191
@chaselesser3191 10 ай бұрын
@@True_Lou Harbor freight is great. But, even I would never buy half their things. Their Long wrenches is were I use the 2 clips. For my other wrenches I use 12 ga conduit coiled, it makes them very compact. I don’t expect their wrenches to be great. But I have put at least 250lbs (im 290 and had a cheaper bar) trying to take a crank pulley off. And it worked, but it could see it flexing and it got me nervous, lol.

Good video. Do you have any idea how to make also non circular spring? Like rounded rectangle, 2x5cm... for pushing stuff back. When releasing tension after make, it of course anymore do not follow rectangle shape, but do some spiral. Hard to repair each curve manually. Thx!!
@True_Lou
@True_Lou 10 ай бұрын
Sorry for delay in responding, I haven't logged onto youtube in a long time. It's a very interesting idea about non circular springs. The first thought that comes to mind is to take a grinder to the threaded rod to form it into a rectangular shape yet maintaining some portion of the treads for use with the spring maker, kind of like a thread tapping tool looks. That said I'm not sure how rectangular or rather oval the spring will be.

These are great little vices! I drilled a small hole on the side of the moving jaw to get oil down to the main screw in that region. Your 3 in 1 is nothing more than mineral oil. I use an 90 weight gear oil. You can also get plain 30w oil non detergent from any auto parts store, use that vs 3 in 1! When adjust the jaw make sure the top of the jaws are flush when tighten not just before! You want the most pressure in the center or near the top top. Use a piece of bond paper or cereal box cardboard and squeeze it lightly, then see where the pinch pointb is by rotating the cardboard. The more parallel the jaws are the less tightness you need to apply to the work! These are not beater vices, thes are general use light duty vice. You don't want to Crack the main nut bend your handel! I love my vice and I use it with much care, but it so handy to pivot as your working no matter what craft your working on.

Have you cut a bolt head through its centerline axiaully and looked at the thread engagement? Thread shape to thread shape? I would like to see one polished with 10x mag. Std bolts and nuts are set at 75% engagement either class1A or 2A. I would think a class1A for wood cause of wood swelling or srinking ( all dependent on which axis the nut or the shaft is cut from and the grain of the wood) a lot more to consider than a plane steel nut and bolt! Have you tried soaking your stock with boiled linseed oil or white mineral oil (for a few days to week - wood species dependent)? You can but replacement v cutters and make your own tapping block or even use a v groove carvers chisle block mounted to carve (cut) the thread as you rotate the rod back (pulling) Interesting fixture set up!
