In your honest opinion, is this MN222 worth getting ?
@YARCWest2 күн бұрын
I think your money is better spent elsewhere, at a minimum you're going to need to replace the ESC
@byrddmann01132 күн бұрын
@YARCWest replacing a ESC is the same as replacing the steering servo. Is this rc vehicle heavy or light weight ? I'm looking for a sturdy well built rc Jeep that doesn't cost a fortune. Most people replace the wheels, tires, servos & ESC anyways.
@YARCWest2 күн бұрын
The body is heavy and is a hardbody, it is on the early SCX10.2 platform so there are upgrades available to it. If you're okay with replacing the ESC, Motor, Servo, Shock Towers, Shocks, fixing the front suspension to 3-link with pan hard (axle mounted wont work since there is not enough space), then I would say go for it, but you're going to put around +$150 into it. There is nothing wrong with the chassis and drive train, it is everything else that is a problem. In follow up videos I do some upgrades on it but it is still not near where I want it to be. It is okay for a light trail truck after those upgrades but seems like a money pit with all the stuff I still need to do with it. It is not terrible after all that, there are simply better trucks out there. Have you considered an Injora roller and putting one of their hardbodies on it? I can't vouch for how easy it would be but I know picking my own electronics would be light years better. I don't want to dissuade you but I would not recommend this truck unless you have the extra cash to fix it.

When I done my wheels and tires I used a medicine bottle with a cap roughly the same size as the wheel or the inside of the wheel and sat the wheel and tire on top to keep bottom of tire from pushing up and popping the bead out the wheel....helped a ton

Very 🆒filming and driving. 👍I would like to have a backyard like that too. The Losi Hammer Rey is a very nice looking RC. I managed to reduce the tendency to body roll by putting double rear wheels on it. The Losi Hammer Rey even looks a bit more extreme and is actually still cool to see and still to the scale. I have a video of my first test drive on my KZfaq channel. Greetings Jos 👋🍀

@heliosentd43712 күн бұрын
Its an interesting comparison, they both have good and bad points. The Hammer Rey has a fantastic suspension and large bump absorbing tires that make it smooth as silk even in the raw un-smoothed section of track. The Arrma Senton Is much lower to the ground with a lightweight shell. That low of a center of gravity means you have to be full throttle and basically out of control to roll it. Which is a must at least once a day.🙂🙃🙂🙃

Which do you think is better out of the box, hb toys beluga or mn 222? are the parts interchangeable on both?
@YARCWest17 күн бұрын
My opinion, the Beluga for sure. The Beluga is based on the TRX4 platform so some parts should be interchangeable. The MN222 is based on the early SCX10.2 platform so there is a lot of parts availability. The Beluga has better electronics out of the box and it’s not even close. I do have my complaints about the Beluga though.

@@YARCWest what are the next upgrade path for your build? though it's really already capable
@YARCWest17 күн бұрын
For the MN222, fix the suspension issue in the front, tune the shocks, upgrade wheels and tires once the wingnut issues is solved, install the winch and add some scale details.

Great video and tests 👍. I was going to swap to 1080 (£38) on my daughters beluga ( very similar esc as yours) but ali x had the fusion se 1800 on sale for £58 so it was a no brainer and went whole hog. Keep up the great work 💪👍

Just put 1060 HW on my mn222, change transmitter, and servo. And it pretty good performance 🔥
@YARCWest18 күн бұрын
I wasn't sure how much of it was the transmitter/ receiver but I was considering it a possibility. I'm currently running a HW 1080, I upgraded the shock towers and added Desert Lizards shocks. I get a lot more travel but now I'm getting tire rub on the passenger side because of the 4-link suspension with Chassis mounted servo. Tomorrow I'm going to pull out the motor and check the pinion gear as well, the motor seems to run really hot.
@YARCWest18 күн бұрын
BTW, I saw your review this morning. Nice job!
@rcgasm18 күн бұрын
@@YARCWest Yes, it is indeed a problem that the tire meets the shock when we turn. And when we change the motor, the gearbox will be damaged, it happened to my mn999 too. I think it should be changed to a reverse gearbox.
@rcgasm18 күн бұрын
@@YARCWest thanks mate 🔥🔥
@YARCWest18 күн бұрын
Yeah there doesn't seem to be any gear reduction so the truck goes way faster than it needs to
@hondafreak861318 күн бұрын
Looks like it needs to be geared down. Sounds like a 30mph rc crawling over a rock
@YARCWest18 күн бұрын
That is definitely something to look at. I'm waiting on some shock towers before I upgrade the shocks and actually take it out.
@YARCWest18 күн бұрын
So I ran it for about 25 minutes, nothing too serious, and the motor was burn your skin hot. I definitely think you're correct. Even with the 1080 the slow crawl is not as good as you'd expect.
@NEO-RC18 күн бұрын
Excellent video!!! Great information and presentation. 👍Id highly recommend the 1080, it’s a great esc and it’s only $40.
@YARCWest18 күн бұрын
Thanks, man! I appreciate that! I also agree about the 1080 if you’re staying brushed. In retrospect I should have ran the tests with the body on. The weight of the body really show how poor the stock ESC is

@YARCWest18 күн бұрын

@Latimerias_trailncrawl19 күн бұрын
I found the stock esc has the same spec as the esc from mn128's newest batch. And also there's someone in the local community group who said the 120a is the peak rate, the normal rate is around 40a with sh tty modulation. This truck is basically like an "austar kit package" but you got the electronics as a bonus. Same formula as MN999.
@Huwaki6519 күн бұрын
I got the mn128 with the new separate rx and esc. It's pretty agile on 1/12 and smaller tires but i doubt on the bigger 1/10 scale.
@Latimerias_trailncrawl19 күн бұрын
@@Huwaki65 it basically clone & simplified version of MST CFX, which is short 1/10 scale. If you use a bigger motor, esc & wheels it is pretty capable.
@YARCWest19 күн бұрын
That’s interesting and a bit disappointing at the same time. I did see someone mention that MN normally stamps the chassis with their logo and this one is definitely not stamped. Thanks for checking out the video!
@Latimerias_trailncrawl19 күн бұрын
@@YARCWest seems like easier & cheap to sell if they rebrand from other company. I'm still interested though since Austar is using scx10 ii as the base.
