We're good thanks. Knocked off another 2 out of the predicted 16 typhoons before Xmas, close but not close enough. A couple of years back, I cut-up some 1 meter lengths of reobar, folded them in half & drove them into the ground around the house, leaving little tie-down loops sticking out. A 100 meter roll of nylon rope completes the package. Any time any typhoon is getting close to the island, out comes the rope & I criss-cross it over the roof along the length of the house & never stressed a typhoon since then. We also switch off the Breaker & start the genny & just wait it out. Always have 20-30 hrs of fuel stored & a shitload of cup noodles. Don't know why people mess around with roofs here. If I built here, it would be a concrete slab all the way. Insulation for the house & entertainment area in one. Cement some poles up there that you could deploy a tarp for your entertainment area & the typhoon can't rip off your roof coz there aint one, move on to the next house please, the one with the noisy Karaoke machine. You mentioned "school" in your vid. Studying or teaching?
@ModIcore
@ModIcore Күн бұрын
@@AA-ge4uj Oh my gosh just getting warmed up! That is a smart solution to saving your roof. I didn't realize nylon was so strong. I am not sure the typical structure there, but maybe old development? Maybe concrete and rebar is expensive? ? The humidity there probably doesn't help either with curing. I bet you it is all down to cost. Corrugated sheets for roofing is pretty easy to import and work with! Sounds like you have some noisy neighbors and bad singing haha you don't like Karaoke?? Yeah I decided to go back to college and get a degree. I am burned out and tired of my field. Not sure what I am going to do yet, but something in social work.
@AA-ge4uj
@AA-ge4uj Күн бұрын
100% it's the cost of materials, it's about 10 times more for the equivalent size in slab. But it's a one-time payment. When you consider the constant risk of losing the roof, combined with continuous maintenance due to the rust from the salty atmosphere & the heat that's generated by roof iron & then trying to cool the house, it's a no-brainer for me. Plus, the terrace roof would be a mad place to sleep on hot nights, no mozzies up there. The nearest Karaokeans are about 100mtrs away but I still hear them. The statement that Filipinos are the best singers in the world, is a myth. They just love to hear their own voice coming from very loud loudspeakers. Many are tone-deaf due to untreated ear infections as children so there's a lot of loud-talkers & shit singers. Thank God for my Sennheisers.

Great, thank you! I have owned a Virus TI2 for years now, but still struggle with programming it intuitively. Especially when I already have a certain sound in mind. Would you eventually offer educational courses in the Virus? Like “today we build a professional brass sound” or so? There are quite a few companies offering patches for the Virus today, but with patches you don’t get to know your synth.

What kind of music do you make or would like to make? I like happy accidents in my music which makes the Virus very forgiving. I am not sure I am qualified to offer educational courses unfortunately. @@ModIcore Thank you for proposing to help. Maybe it’s not much, but when I see your video, it seems you really know where to turn a knob for achieving a certain sound. My experience with the Virus resembles more something like: I try to reproduce a certain sound, but end in creating a completely different one. For example, how do you remember the different wave types? I’m lost everytime I try to find the one I used last time. The Virus is a quite complex synth! In summary: How do you proceed to create your basic sound, before “polishing it with LFOs or delay? Do you follow some kind of a recipe?
@ModIcore
@ModIcore Ай бұрын
@@fraso2000 I remember a couple of the wavetable ones that are basic shapes as they are the most useful to me: Octavius (saw) and Pulse Checker (square). The others I kind of choose at random. The basic waves I have been using a long time and have an idea of what to expect. I stick to basic type sounds to make sure I don't drift too far from my idea e.g if I want a pad or a string, I use a hyper saw and thicken to my liking or if I want to hallow bass then I'll use a square. Understanding what can be done with the basic waves is important. Have you read the Howard Scarr programming tutorial? I remember that have some good building blocks using classic waveforms. You can download it here: www.virus.info/downloads/2/Manuals%20and%20Tutorials?a=login (search for howard and it'll pop up). I think in the end, I have just learned what I like from the synth and go towards it. I don't have a certain recipe I follow. The best advice I can give is to just try to keep it simple (classic waves and filters). Sorry that I am not of much help!

Many thanks, this is a great help! I think you are absolutely right in staying with a few “standard” oscillator settings in order to get the sound you want. And there you go, piece of piss right? I've been feeding Basslines & Drumlines through it for about a month now. RTFM wasn't very enlightening so I found a couple of Tutorial vids on KZfaq for reference & found that it actually works pretty much like any other Vocoder. Hardwarewise, I own the Korg VC-10, yes, 110 years old but does the job, a bit noisy but that's inherent to the"Vocoder" circuit. Those, the Arturia FX collection, something from Ohm Boys & the D16 Group Silverline collection, everything else out the door. I finally accepted & appreciated keeping all that stuff as minimal as the track we just heard. I’m planning a visit to see them once they have moved house… I’ll be getting a guitar song book for my niece so she can learn more songs and for my nephew I’ll be getting him a tambourine. My cousins wife said she might get him a drum kit in the future. My niece is about 10 now and my nephew is 5/6 so they are showing interest in music at a young age, something we are all going to nurture and support them with. I’m thinking when they visit I’ll show them a virtual piano on the pc using a keyboard and see what they think, plus show them my music. I’m glad you didn’t give up on music, look at the support your getting with your videos I think you picked the right time for virus ti videos now there is viper and ostirus. Proper loved bouncing ideas back and forth with you and when the website is up and running I’ll be happy to contribute 🙂

@@psilocinsoundz It is funny how Cubase has remained the same price for so long. I got mine for $400. I probably would have waited for a better deal but kind of wanted everything taken care of and at least I got some discount. Playing guitar is a lot of fun. I definitely wouldn't be able to play any songs on it! Hats off to her. The most I can do it route it to effects and have an inconsistent melody haha. I hope they like playing together as that would be really cool. I think supporting them at a their age is a good idea. Music is so important for their wellbeing and even if they fall out of loving it, they will still take it with them. You have a lot to show them! If I remember correctly, you have a looooot of wavetable patches you created and must be excited to share! They will probably get good ideas from it. I am happy I continued making music too. It is so much fun thinking of an idea and putting it to paper. Sometimes it works exactly as I had in mind which is so surprising! Thanks for your support! I like talking and hearing everyone's ideas. Looking forward to the future!
