I have a Superman VS that won't start. I tried this to see if it was in Safe Mode but nothing happened when I hit the 1 and +- buttons except the display light started flashing. I tried to do a factory reset by pushing 1234 buttons at the same time but nothing happened there either. I cut the power to the pool completely and turned it back on as a last ditch effort and nothing happened, still just the flashing display and the pump won't start. It's connected to an Easytpouch panel and it's on a schedule but didn't start. Thanks for making all these videos, makes pool maintenance way easier! Any other suggestions you think I should try?

I look at how fast the pressure goes up after backwash. If pressure goes up in a week or two, and I have backwash many times. Water is always clear(no debris or alge), then I need sand changed. Usually 7 to 10 years. Big change in filtering pressure after sand change.

Hello Steve , it's because of your videos like this one . I decided to go with a Hayward VSP pump . I had it installed yesterday so I'll see how it goes . The installer used a 16 hour schedule , do you recommend this one ? On the last phase it's only 1,000 rpm and the skimmer isn't running . Please let me know your thoughts .W3SP2303VSP is the pump they uesd .

Hope you don't mind, but I have a question. The wife and I purchased a large plastic horse trough roughly 350 gallons. We're going to use it cool off and soak in and hot days. Would adding salt be beneficial instead of chlorine? Wouldn't be adding any kind of filter or anything.

Seems like common sense. Glad I was doing it right. I like to hold the bottle in the water so that it o ly drops out an inch or so into the pool and doesnt splash also.

Great video, Steve. I appreciate all of the knowledge you share. I have a 20,000 gallon pool with 1.5" plumbing - 1 floor drain, skimmer, and 2 returns. Based on what I'm seeing in this video, the lowest setting of 1,500 RPM on this pump would produce the max efficient flow. Is there a smaller pump that you would recommend that would allow me to run at lower RPMs where I'm getting 20 gpm vs 38 gpm as you suggested?

I have a 12x24 above ground 4" oval pool with a cartridge filter I can't get clear; I've tried all the more common methods without success. I believe my next step is to drain , however everything I read says not to do so in risk of damaging my vinyl liner. At this point I feel I have no choice. I will use your advice and drain down to 12" . Once I'm down, is there any suggestions besides a debris cleaning you may have before I refill ? Thank you.

Rules of Thumb for bonding anything well : I once worked closely with Dr Keith Armstrong who had PHD in adhesive Technology. He explained that all adhesive applications are "process dependent" ... meaning the preparation is much more important than application. When bonding anything, ( paint, glue, concrete, metal, composites, etc ) cleanliness is most important . We used "water break" test prior to bonding Advanced Composites .( if water beads, or avoids an area ... it is Not clean enough ! ) He explained further, that surface area is next most important. Roughening of any surface increases surface area of bond. Acids & etching solutions increase surface area further by creating miniscule hairs / scratches on surface ... which are visible upon magnification. Beyond this, of course temperature, humidity, and specific needs of applied materials must also be considered . This fundamental understanding is helpful in any bonding scenario

I’m thinking as long as the fresh water from the pool is moved, wouldn’t that make it safe? I don’t want chlorine or salt water in my water. Besides, I want to be able to boil my fresh water for drinking 😅

Super-helpful, will try to use this for a spa-with-solar situation. BTW, it would be "kiloWatts", not what you were saying "kiloWatt-hours" (you were correct when draw dropped below a kiloWatt and you started saying "Watts" rather than "Watt-hours".

Great video Steve thank you for sharing. I have a question. I live in an area where the heat gets terrible, right now we are hitting as much as 109. I did have a liner melt because of the heat and reflection. Not any fun. However my question is because I do have a vinal pool can I use a shock treatment on a weekly basis and be okay with that or should I continue to use chlorine? Using chlorine in this heat I go through about 3 pucks weekly because of the heat. Evaporation is also another one of my issues around here. The sun has completely faded my pool pattern away; however, it still holds water so I'm in no hurry to replace it. Thank you for your response.

We just had a pool built. Did initial fill and start up yesterday. It's a 30x15 rectangular inground gunite/diamondbrite pool. Not sure on gallons 16-17k? PB put in a Jandy CS200 cartridge filter. Guessing it's OK? I don't know anything about pools, but have been researching extensively. Right now I've been doing the 2x daily brushing for the DB plaster(pool guy can't come out for at least a week) Wondering if i should be cleaning the cartridge filter daily to remove the dust from initial construction

Sounds pretty loud. Single speed pumps (usually around ~3450RPM) are much more quiet. Shopping for a new one because mine is now way too loud even after changing bearings. It's around 69-70dcb and it's very annoying.

I have the same setup, but with 110v input. Does this pump automatically see the voltage change and adjust? Or will your flow be cut?

In the long run, running your pump 24 seven even at lower speed is that gonna be more cost-effective than running it for 10 hours at full speed and then not at all for the rest of the day which is what we do now and in the winter time, we don’t even have to run that much at full speed

Just by opening the pressure relief valve on the top of the filter, the pump will fill up itself and you will hear air hiss as the pump fills. just leave it open till it spouts water.

Love your fantastic advice and thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a Pentair variable speed pump and have it running 24/7 at 2000 RPM (minimum speed needed for my fairly new heater to detect water flow and turn on). The pump feels hot to the touch...not too hot to hold your hand on, but hot. I clean the pump basket every day. I'm wondering, how hot is too hot and s it bad to run the pump that much? Thanks again.
@thomasnew86065 күн бұрын
Get a temperature gun and see how hot it really is. Amazon has them for like $25. Electric motors can get quite warm without issue. Smoking hot...no good

I find using boric acid, liquid chlorine, and a solar copper ionizer works great. The pool water that is surrounded by trees on three sides has been crystal clear for over 5 years in the hot Arizona sun. Plus, I use an 1100gph bilge pump that runs off a 100-watt solar panel to shoot out a five-foot stream all day when it is sunny out

So is it cheaper energy wise to run 230v v 120?
@Swimmingpoolsteve6 күн бұрын
@@user-pb2vq2kf6l 230v, and higher potential as well. Lower current is less transmission loss, which is why we use high voltage transmission lines in infrastructure. Low current and smaller conductors. It's not much at the pool pump level, but higher voltage when available is the better option.

Just watched the entire video and that electrical part can TOTALLY relate to not explaining more. Often I can tell by the questions someone asks they should absolutely NOT be doing it. We've seen it all, crimps on solid wire, wire going the wrong direction around screws, 1.5hp pumps plugged into 16 gauge extension cords WITH a plug in timer, romex ran through conduit, loose push on spade connectors and bonds where someone used a piece of 12 gauge electrical wire to extend it... also putting 2 bonds under the screw clamp on the pump to connect is also not code, you must use a split bolt connector (bug). Our company hired an electrician to work for us, learned so much from him it was unreal. Also if you read the NEC you actually CAN use a plug in cord on a pump but it has to be rated for outdoor and be sized correctly, under so many feet, etc, etc but rarely do I see an install done like that correctly. Really informative video all around Steve, I actually had one of our new techs watch this in between jobs while driving. It's unfortunate so many pumps are installed incorrectly, sometimes we violate the rules, prime example someone used a valve with two streets, the pipes coming up out of the ground are too close for anything else and it's solid cement poured right around them, customer just wants a new pump, sure I can explain that this isn't ideal but chance are they won't believe it (you know, it ran fine for 20 years) and hire someone else if I charge what it'd take to cut the cement, break it up and space the pipes better. With electric as pool guys we're really not supposed to reconfigure things either without a license electrician but when I know something is beyond wrong I'll opt to make it safer or suggest they call a licensed guy to correct it, a few customer do, most do not.
