Ohm’ing out an electrical part by its connector (wiring) is not the most reliable, but ahh, it’ll do.

Hello my dear friend, I have a problem with a Caterpillar C18 generator, 500 kilowatts. After the generator is started without load, there is a problem with the speed and voltage stabilizing together, with a humming sound occurring in the generator. It is unstable. Please help me. Many thanks and respect to you.

Greetings Thank you for your enquiry! Can you tell me about RPM and the voltage in your country? If the voltage is 110 v 60Hz the RPM should be 1800 for 220 v 50Hz the RPM should be 1500. First make sure stabilize your engine speed , either there is problem with your fuel line or the injectors are bad . 01 Check the fuel line and the pump pressure . 02 inspect the injectors . If they are all ok Do a compression test make sure you don't have any problem with your engine after inspection when you got all ok the engine speed stabilized , check the voltage if still the voltage fluctuating please check the AVR.

@northjayhoon9789Ай бұрын
Thank you for your enquiry! If your generator's controller indicates/ warning high battery alarm, definitely you need to check DC alternator . An alternator's output is controlled by an integrated voltage regulator, which is designed to prevent overcharge. You may have a faulty voltage regulator and it does over charge your battery.

Thanks sir 🔧,I had already checked that filter and I think the problem is with the lift pump, a few months ago the tank was contaminated, the injection pump and injectors were serviced but nothing has been done to the lift pump

Hello, I am having the same problem with a generator similar to the one you are calibrating the sensor, it has a new sensor, calibrated, and the failure continues, loss of signal or erratic speed sensor, what could be happening there if the problem remains the same
@northjayhoon9789Ай бұрын
Greetings If you have replaced the sensor and still have the same problem please check those two wires which connected to the sensor either there is loose connection or one of the wire has been corroded. Note:for loose connection you need the inspect the sensor connector If there is loose connection engine vibrations will cause loose the signal.

@@northjayhoon9789 Hello, thank you for your information, I replaced the harness by making a new one other than the one it came with and it continues to present the problem, I believe that the problem is caused by the fuel, I notice that the engine slows down as the load of each section of the hotel where it is installed. Sometimes you have to turn it on up to 3 times for it to start.
My engine has similar problem, unexpected shutdown! But when i restart the engine it starts normal. However only during the change in load it shut downs! Wht it could be ? I already inspected fuel side. Thank you.
@northjayhoon9789Ай бұрын
Greetings Unexpected shutdown is an electrical problem, it happens if there is loose connection where the negatives circuits are grounded at the engine, or there is power interruption happens with circuit which is supplying power to the fuel cut solenoid .

My FGWilson trip in the First start by overspeed... In the second start no problem... I gona Check my filter of pump. Thanks Mr.
@northjayhoon97892 ай бұрын
Greetings First start overspeed means there is a problem with the fuel line The fuel from filter housing returns back to the fuel tank after some hours , while the generator is standby In this situation before you start the engine please run the prime pump for two minutes and start the engine , if the engine did not overspeed which mean the fuel line gets empty when it is standby for two or three hours Note: if your generator doesn't have an electric fuel prime pump Pump it manually.

hi there..same issue for my ac as well.. all wires are fine... ac works for few mins, and then ch 5 erro comes up.. sometimes ac works without any issues, but then the next day, sane error pops up.. what couls be the issue? and today its been 3 days i havent used the ac..its not starting at all
@northjayhoon97893 ай бұрын
Greetings Check the input circuits at the indoor PCB make sure they are ok you may have a blown fuse once you figure out with the current problem that you mentioned your AC is off at all not starting After you are able to run the unit connect a single wire to the 3c circuit in indoor and the other end of wire should reach to the outdoor connect it to the 3c circuit of outdoor this wire should be isolated from the rest of wire Run the AC unit and wait 20 mins if the erro comes back then you need to check the PCB board at the outdoor there are so many component you have to check sometimes the PCB itself goes bad
@andywong1782Ай бұрын
Hi, you found the problem yet? I have the exactly issue like you. I haven't checked the wire yet. Ch05 shown up occasional after 30 min or so. After I turned off everything for any hour or so, it will be back to normal, depending on luck.
This is an excellent test carried out, simple and straightforward

Dear Followers Accidentally I have been remove one of the question, who has inquired me how to adjust the frequency and increase it to 60Hz ? My apologies guys for this inconvenient event ! my answer for this question is : The output frequency of a generator is one of the important parameters that determine the generator’s rating. The electrical output of the generator must be maintained at a fixed frequency, 50 Hz or 60 Hz, to match the output of a standard electrical grid or the frequency rating of your appliances. The frequency is typically 60 Hz in the US and 50 Hz in Europe. You may also come across different isolated sections of the same grid operating at different frequencies. It then becomes essential to vary the output frequency of the generator to match that of the appliances to be powered or of the grid to which your generator is connected. Changing Engine Speed to Vary Output FrequencyPresent-day generators consist of an engine directly connected to an alternator to produce electricity. One of the most common ways of changing the output frequency of a generator is to change the rotation speed of the engine. The two factors are related as per the following formula - Generator Frequency (f) = Number of revolutions per minute of the engine (N) * Number of magnetic poles (P) / 120 Conversely, P = 120*f/N As per the above formula, a 2-pole generator producing an output frequency of 60 Hz has an engine speed of 3,600 rpm. To change the output frequency to 50 Hz for the same generator configuration, the engine speed needs to be reduced to 3,000 rpm. Similarly, for a 4-pole generator, an engine speed of 1,800 rpm produces output of 60 Hz. Reducing the engine speed to 1,500 rpm yields an output of 50 Hz. In the case of small or residential generators, you can alter the engine rpm settings by making a few changes on the control panel of your unit. Follow the steps given below to alter your generator frequency from 60 Hz to 50 Hz:Run your generator engine and tune the frequency meter on your control panel to read 50 HzCheck the AC voltmeter or potentiometer as the case may be and read the voltage output of the generator. The output voltage decreases as you reduce the frequency and may be lower than the desired valueAdjust the AC voltmeter or potentiometer on your control panel until you obtain the desired output voltage at 50 HzBy making similar modifications on the control panel, you can increase the frequency from 50 Hz to 60 Hz If the control panel does not display the frequency, you will need to first connect a device that will measure the frequency while the generator is in operation and then change the engine rpm. Generator controller units undertake real-time monitoring and control of your unit. Built-in protective functions automatically shut down your generator in the case of excess engine rpm or very low output frequency. Before you do any adjustment on your generator please read the technical specifications of your generator in user manual. All the best
