I make a recipe very similar to that in the oven but no eggs. It’s more of a clam dip or a baked clam without the shell. You use bread crumbs and yes cheese is melted on top. It’s yummy and very requested! It too is from the 70s. I’m newly subscribed to your channel and love it!

I remember when my Mom came home with one of those original crock pots. We were apprehensive at first. But, we loved everything that came out of it! Whenever she pulled that monster out, we knew we were going to have something good to eat! Loved watching her load it up in the morning, and coming home to the delicious smells after school! The only issue we had with it, was that it was a b*tch to clean! We used that thing for years, until it finally died. Whoever came up with the idea of separating the container from the heating element, was genius! Before, it was all one unit, and you couldn’t get the electronics wet. We finally figured out to just fill it with water, and a couple drops of soap, heat it up, and then wipe it out. P.S. Golden Mushroom soup is delicious! Mom always used it to make a pork stew. And I don’t even like mushrooms. 😂

Fridge looks great! Love the colour. Do you have to sand it first? I'd love to do this but I have sensory issues with sanding. While I'm on the subject of sensory issues, please trigger warning for the scratching nails on surface. I even jumped forward and you were still doing it LMAO. Nicely done though

this is thought to be the first cookbook written by an American (as opposed to English cookbooks where were to be found in the colonies, but were written in England).

I got a new fridge yesterday and the sides came in the wrong color! I don’t want to hassle returning it ordering being without a fridge. My question is if it’s new with matte sides do I need to the sanding portion or can I prime and pair as is?

Honestly, I was just gonna throw the beans in the vodka bottle and when it’s ready, I’ll portion it out into little containers. I’ve seen people do that and I’m all about simplifying.

Coolest hat ever. You seriously hit a grand slam with this one. Only thing that would have made this better was if they had a banana surprise in the book, but I don't think that had nanners in 1776 in the colonies. I think I have this book on my wish list in Amazon. Or something similar. Is unsalted butter really necessary in baking? Asking for a friend. 🧈 HOLY BAD WORD. I just scored!! I got the Kindle edition of this book for less than $2 Cdn. I'm almost tempted to get the actual book too. I love weird cookbooks and reprint or not this one would be worth it.

Omg! I hope you get a kick out of the book like I did. I find it totally fascinating, and I love imagining not having any other information besides what my mom taught me and a few odd pages of a book to feed my family lol.

It’s crazy people spend over $100/week on groceries. I guess I’m usually buying produce and beans and canned goods. I do love my cheese and fish though, so that can drive the price up fast.

Quite fascinating. I'm curious about the scalded wine. Could you detect the effect of that? ? I've learned that your reactions are quite honest - so - this must be really good. To be fair . . . if you add that much butter and sugar to anything . . . . it would probably be quite tasty. Anxious for more 'vintage' recipes in the future.
@ClaireRisper3 күн бұрын
The wine was not overwhelming at all, I think it probably helped balance with the insane amount of sugar. It was a pretty dry wine. Honestly it makes me more interested in trying dessert recipes that use wine!

I own the 15th printing of The Modern Encyclopedia of Cooking, first copyrighted by Meta Given in 1947, and published in 1953. It's focus is on nutrition and vitamins and minerals, as well as food management in the home. I was so happy to see this recipe there! A couple of tips from the book if anyone plans on making this recipe: it calls for "broken" spaghetti, so not necessarily in half, and says that macaroni may be used instead. It also suggests chicken or tuna can be used in place of ham.

I love Aldi 😊with a Family of five, I had to make that sandwich to a budget friendly store. Honestly, I’m in Aldi maybe twice a week. We have our family staples that we must have. Their JasmineRice. Pasteurized eggs, ice cream, ground turkey and chicken. We love everything about Aldi 😂

That coffee creamer looks great! I haven't tried it. We get the French vanilla flavor usually. Hazelnut is my favorite flavor but I don't like the Aldi other flavor of cheap creamer. I wonder if that one tastes better!!! I should try. I love the coffee-mate hazelnut creamer but it is so ridiculously expensive I never buy it anymore. 😂 I may splurge if mommy needs a treatski or if it is on sale. I should buy that one and see if I love it!

I've been curious about making my own creamer too, the cream at Aldi is a good deal. Not sure I would be able to make it hazelnut but I'm sure I could make a vanilla one! I may look into that lol
