Love this drive mate. My family and I used to frequent Coffs for holidays. Furthest I've gone is the Gold Coast though.

My mate and I did the majority of this drive in March 2023, 2 weeks after we got our P1 licences, we ended up stopping in a rest stop in Gunning, then Albury for dinner, then we turned off the Hume at Benalla to avoid tolls in Melbourne, that back turned out to be quite a fun road to drive down, especially at night. We’re glad we split the driving otherwise it would’ve been way too tiring.

Very cool video. I like seeing these videos in high speed as you can see a lot of the country in a short time. As an American, it is very interesting how the most populated parts of Australia, the eastern side, are relatively empty. Seriously, it looks comparable to the American inner west or the plains of Kansas. I like it. Is this a toll road, as it did seem like I saw a travel plaza? It looked well maintained. Beautiful drive. I appreciate you sharing this. It is probably the closest I'll ever get to actually driving in Australia.
@MightyEagle0735 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Only the M5 was tolled in the entire trip, the M31 Hume Highway was completely toll free from start to finish. Definitely a well maintained road that is capable of doing speeds way faster than its limit! Shame there’s only a few of these in Australia 😅

You got the roads in Melbourne all wrong - C727 Wallan-Wittlesea Road - half-diamond interchange serving partial-Y - C723 Donnybrook Road - Modified double-trumpet interchange - MR55 Sydney "Hume Highway" Road - partial-Y interchange serving half-diamond - B716 O'Hearns Road - diamond interchange and transition into local road (brand new spur road, and shields are being passively phased out) - MR58 Cooper Street - diamond interchange
@MightyEagle0739 ай бұрын
Thank you for the corrections! Yeah these junctions are a bit tedious to make... normally I watch netflix at the same time as making them so I can make a bit of mistakes sometimes, and it seems when I got to the Melbourne part I was... way too tired out already! Although I will say... I don't think I got MR58 wrong, and I don't think I added C727, C723 and B716 in? I obviously can't do all of them because that will overload the video!

Cool video! The legend in the left hand corner that annotates the location and speed limit is a really neat addition,, does that populate automatically based on the GPS data or it's manually added?
@MightyEagle07310 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! It's manually added, although I am thinking of developing a way to automatically add it in (especially since my newer videos have way more information than this video) by reading the coordinate information on the video, and then using some sort of framework (if there is one) to implement it into premiere. It will definitely save me a lot of time!

I got to admit I'm not a big fan of the New England Highway. I have driven it from the Sunshine Coast to Armidale a few times and it seems like a road that just never ends. You drive for 3.5 Hours and you're still in Qld. Drive for that amount of time on the Pacific and you are well on your to being halfway between Ballina and Grafton.
@MightyEagle07310 ай бұрын
Definitely not as quick as the Pacific, but it's a great alternative route with slightly better scenery.
@robertgarland934211 ай бұрын
Wow I can't believe how much the Pacific highway has changed. I haven't driven it for 20 plus years and the last time I was on it, it was a single lane pothole goat track running through every little town along the way. Can imagine what it would be like when and if they by pass Coffs Harbour.
@MightyEagle07310 ай бұрын
It is definitely a lot faster than how it used to be... back in the day the New England Highway was actually faster than the Pacific Highway! (Not that I am old enough to remember haha)

@MightyEagle07311 ай бұрын
I'd say around 2,100km/h, which is 1,990km/h over the speed limit. According to the NSW Road Rules 2014, Rule 20, exceeding the limit by over 45km/h in a class A vehicle will result in a fine of $2,616, 6 demerit points as well as a 6 month licence suspension. Whether or not I actually got convicted of that is totally up for interpretation 🤔

@MightyEagle073 Жыл бұрын
Will definitely save quite a bit of time along the New England! Although I wonder whether the bypass at Singleton is necessary... 700 million to save at most 5 minutes sounds a little bit overkill.
@waynehampson9569 Жыл бұрын
@@MightyEagle073 I know. I live on the south coast of New South Wales. The Albion Park Rail bypass only saved about 3 minutes but at least the bottle neck there is gone.
@Neyah2115 ай бұрын
@MightyEagle073 Trust me the Singleton bypass is definitely needed. I travel on the highway every second weekend to Sydney During the afternoon rush (tradie/school knockoff) the highway sometimes becomes very congested. I got caught in 2 of these and a 5 minute drive through the town turned into 30-40 minutes.
