Thank you, for a true taste test, without salt first and then with salt. Salt changes the whole taste profile. I've watched a lot of tomato taste tests and yours is the first that convinced to to try Aunt Ruby German Green.

Those don’t look like the midnight snack I’ve seen. It’s almost twice as big and the color is off. It looks more like a rosella purple. Midnight snack are small cherry tomatoes with deep purple streaking.

I grew Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, Ananas Noire and Mortgage lifter last year. All did very well and it was a toss up as to which made the best sauce. The Ananas Noire(Black Pineapple) is a very beautiful and hardy tomato and was a pleasant surprise. Will be growing all of them again this year.

Can I just use dirt from the yard to start or will that be a waste. I'm trying to save money as much as possible and get creative this year.
@Onniesprairiegarden4 ай бұрын
You can certainly do that I just would not recommend it for starting seeds indoors if you can help it. Sometimes dirt can be very dense and not be good for draining. Also, the lack of nutrients for your new seedlings. You want them off to a really good start. And then lastly there might be weed seeds in your soil to contend with. At Walmart, you can get some jiffy for $6. I think that's pretty affordable.

Getting alot of tomatoes going over there. It has been forever since I grew the Solar Flare and miss it. We have a good/bad relationship with those Burpee trays over here but can work really well. Lots of cool types. Thanks for the share!
@Onniesprairiegarden4 ай бұрын
Oh really? Thanks for the heads up. What has been the issue for you?
@UT332004 ай бұрын
Not major issues to be sure and perhaps from our unique grow situation but our green tray has caused some sprouts to fall out from the heat mat I think. I would say if you notice the new seedlings start to look off it might be worth a try of taking them from the heat mat. We also got a 36 cell blue tray this year from Burpee and it seems to be working alot better. It does have the pods elevated a bit off the bottom too. May be a non issue and hoping to do a video on them someday after had for a season or two. @@Onniesprairiegarden

Lots of really cool types to get excited about. The Black Beauty is an amazing tomato and our best of last season. My family and I enjoyed the pink Berkeley tie dye so much last year and it produced so well here in Central Texas that we will be growing it again. I’m going to have to try the dwarf breeds.Im also growing Aunt Rubys German green. I got some really big tomatoes from that plant and they tasted great. I experimented last year, but this year I need to do some canning to replenish my supply so I’m concentrating on Amish paste and Opalka paste tomatoes along with Celebrity, Big Beef, and Jolene ( this one is new to me). All those seem to do well in my area Zone 8A in Central Texas. Wishing you the best of luck. I’ll be watching your progress.
