That’s tough. Parenting is tough when you start out, regardless - let alone someone else’s child with baggage

My preschool teacher adopted a baby and taught us about foster parents and the fact some kids need parents. Ever since then I have refused the idea of creating more humans when so many young ones already need a family. I hope that my wealth later on in life will help me adopt and provide mental health care for kids in the system. Especially those in teen years that need a solid support system, therapy, and are less likely to be adopted. I hope I can provide that for even one person one day. In mental health treatment, I met many people who lives through the foster system and suffered lots of trauma. I hope I can make the biggest difference one day for them

Remember, the goal of fostering is not to adopt. The goal is reunification with their family. There are very few children in the US who need adoption. Have your own children and help these families with your extra means ❤
@vickylewis85585 ай бұрын
What really scares me is the thought of bonding strongly with a foster child, having them reunify with their bio family, but the reunification breaks down and you can't take them back because their space is taken by another child! That would be heart-breaking.

Wait. They say you can be foster parents but there’s no training involved for inexperienced families?
@taylorshain1211 ай бұрын
There is training! The process of becoming a licensed foster parent is comprehensive. However, it's still tough with or without experience.

Background music is too loud, distracting and unnecessary in this very important video.
@taylorshain1211 ай бұрын
I apologize - I was trying to use music to support the story, the emotions. Appreciate your feedback.
@emmef797011 ай бұрын
@@taylorshain12 No apologies needed. Just thought I would make a suggestion. I still watched and liked the vid. Oftentimes videos don't need background noise. If you prefer the music, I would just lower the volume because some people may not be able to hear what you are saying. :)

The video is great and comment unnecessary. Well done to you
@emmef79704 ай бұрын
@@samplayer6870 I had no issue with the video, as I mentioned. Clearly you are not hearing impaired. Lucky you! However, the suggestion was not for you, it was specifically for hearing impaired people who despite turning the volume up to the highest level still can't hear the video because the background music is louder than the norm. It doesn't happen often but it does happen. What was so offensive about my comment? I thought it was pretty respectful & it might serve him well if people are tuning out because they simply can't hear the video. Don't suggest "closed captioning". For the most part it's crap & you will understand about a quarter of a video. Thanks for letting me know how you feel.

@@emmef7970ever heard of closed captions? Those help a lot if u can’t hear. The music was not that fucking loud

Awww this was heartbreaking for me. I lost my two children to foster care for two months back in 2012. I'm grateful that they were able to stay together and I'm so thankful I got them back in 2 months. It was terrible. You make a great video on this topic. Best of luck!!

As a bio mom, thank you for acknowledging the child’s feelings and birth parents. Not all birth parents are criminals, not all birth parents are “bad parents” sometimes bio moms, and/or dads just need help in an area or a few areas. And yes I’m sure the majority have done things that most would never imagine. Coming from personal experience, there are bio parents who are not the stereotypical individuals and truly are having a far worse night or week while fighting to prove to a system that views them as guilty until proven innocent. I’d much rather lose sleep due to a crying baby than lose sleep because I’m not hearing my baby at all. Again thank you for being so vulnerable and not sugar coating things. God bless you and your family ❤

Thanks for your comment! Foster care is primarily about reunification, keeping families together. It's easy to forget that. Washington DC is currently experimenting with giving parents with kids in CPS custody monthly stipends. I'm excited about that experiment and curious to the result. In most of the country, foster parents receive monthly stipends for the kids in their care.

Great video! I was a mentor to a boy in foster care for 7 years. He now is 17. His father, whom he had not spoken nor seen for 6 years, wanted him to move 1000 miles away to Texas. I had 3 days spending time with him. I did go to the final court date to support him. The father was very thankful and friendly. He said contact can continue and am allowed to visit. This interaction calmed me immensely. I'm still going through the grieving process. I did give the teen a letter. He was very thankful. He has texted a few times. We will see where this relationship goes. He is 4 months shy of his 18th birthday. I was shocked how attached and bonded you can become. Many have said to mentor another. I will take time to heal. Best wishes.

Thank you for your video. Please consider not talking over music. It's a little bit anxiety producing. It's not really needed. You are wonderful, and you don't need that background racket to share your stories. Little bit of music goes a long way. It's best when people aren't talking, or if they're singing then it's good then😊. Take care and thanks for fostering.

It's definitely hard to say goodbye to your foster kids. But I know it's best for the kids to be with family (most of the time). It's complicated - I think the goal of the child welfare system should be to be more of a family well-being system and keep families together. (Easier said than done).
