I may start in the NICU in the next month or so as a volunteer. I will be a senior citizen volunteer working with the kiddos. Many of the babies were born from mothers who abused drugs and alcohol. We care for these babies by holding them and caring for their basic needs. Currently, I am a volunteer at my local VA Hospital. I help out in many different areas within the VA Hospital. I am a retired soldier and have 4,000+ hours of spending time with my fellow veterans. Speaking of nights, the NICU wants me on duty at night. Aren't the babies sleeping? My work with the VA Hospital will be on the weekends.

Hi there! Congrats on your new role. I’m a Mexican nurse planing on moving to the US to work there. And the OR is the area I’d love to be working at. You said you speak Spanish. Are you Latina or you just happen to know Spanish? 😅 By the way. I'd love to hear more about your experience at the OR. I’ll be waiting for your next video. 🤗 Lots of love. 🤗

Hi there! Thank you for your kind words! I’m curious to hear what nursing is like in Mexico? I would love to work as a nurse in a different country some day. Also to answer your question, I am part Latina! I am mixed and trying to learn the different languages from my different backgrounds ❤️
@ShowyCM8 ай бұрын
@@NurseIvyRN Nursing in Mexico is beautiful: you have many kind patients and they're so grateful. As for the hospitals, you would be of so much value just because you’ll have the experience of a muse working in the US. The payment for higher degrees than bachelors degree are about 1,000 US dollars per month. So, you would earn like 5 times less that you would there in the US. The good thing is that life is cheaper here, but not 5 times cheaper, only like 1.5 times cheaper. Working in a government facility would pay you the most. You would get about 1,500 up to 2,000 US dollars, more or less.

It takes 12-18 months to begin feeling competent as a nurse. Experienced NICU nurses (at least on my unit) are always a resource person for the newer nurses. If you are uncertain about anything, ask an experienced nurse. We would rather you ask a million questions than have you afraid to look stupid for asking too many questions and harm your baby. We hire almost exclusively new grad nurses on our unit, so we always have several new nurses on the unit.
@NurseIvyRN8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your message! I agree with everything that you said! I was lucky that all of my preceptors encouraged me to ask questions and always helped me whenever it was needed. If possible, do you mind sharing what hospital you are currently working in that hires new grad nurses? I’m sure several students or new grads watching would love to know!

Clarification, if you took out a federal loan for your first degree then you won’t be able to do the same for the second degree. If you did not borrow for the first degree, you can take out a federal loan for the second degree.
