@Brightdog - love your dog training videos, just bought your ebook. Quick question - what's going to happen if we only use the harness? Do they not get enough pressure when we stop to understand they shouldn't pull and that's why the collar is required? I'm concerned about damaging my dog's neck in the long run.

people who show sheepies use shoes to keep their feet clean when they take them out for a bathroom break if the weather is bad. They do not want to get the feet messed up before a show especially if they have already been groomed for the show

Yes if they bite you you've made a huge mistake in their training. That's where I'm at and my pup is only 1. You talk about warning signs. How bout our warning signs. What do we do when they threaten to bite us if we want them to do something. Maybe put their collar on. My pup went from the sweetest little guy to deciding he's alpha and any change in that is gonna cost you. I've never seen a pup act this way! I'm not scared of him. He's tiny so I'll put my potholders on and do one of the silly ideas people have offered to change this behavior. Fir me, holding him above my head, or holding him on his back then ignoring him till he settles down is just dandy. Until that is, the next time I want to put his collar on, or scoot over a little on the couch. He's off the hook, snap and snarl and push it, and he's right to biting mode. This started about 2 weeks ago and is progressively getting worse . Ok everybody go ahead a criticize me. Fine. I didn't have a clue what I could have possibly done wrong for him to change up like this. But I'll tell you one thing. If isn't for lack of love . More than anything it would just crush me to lose him. But I would give him up in a heartbeat before subjecting him to living stuck with an error my ignorance had caused and suffer for it. Even as much as I've got into him means nothing to lose to make sure he can live a happy life somewhere with someone who can fix what I've messed up. I hope someone will help us stay togather. Ginger

OK, I have a question so my four month old puppy and my almost 2-year-old dog roll around on the floor plane but they’re biting at each other’s faces. I don’t think me just I think they’re playing too rough and the puppy ends up getting like scabs or sores along his face. But the puppy never stops and keeps going up to the other, so what do I do?

i find it best to teach dogs "quiet" is when they are naturally quiet. too many people reward at the wrong time or get the dog hyped with he reward. never reward a dog when they are too excited as this rewards over excitement only reward when he dog is calm.

Good video. I am dealing with a dog that I walk that refuses to walk on the leash and acts very fearful. He will sit or lay down. Of course he is on a front attach harness to limit his ability to pull which doesn’t work great when he is the one that won’t budge. He will refuse to follow me even in his own yard. Treats don’t always work as he will refuse them. It gets frustrating at times.

A couple of points I'd like to add. When you were describing how the K-9s bite aggressively, I just want to add that you are correct for some K-9 officers, but not all. There are forces that don't teach the dogs to aggressively bite, but to bite hard enough to ensure a takedown. Then it's the responsibility of the officers to jump in and take control. Small clarification and not meant as a correction or criticism. Love the video, so don't take offense as it is not intended in that manner. Second point, and just an add on to your statement concerning the Belgian Malinois. Not only are they athletic strong, and incredibly fast. They are famously know to have a never-ending energy within them. For anyone even considering adopting or owning one, just realize that you will need to spend hours every day with play, lessons, walks, and anything else you can think of to properly raise and care for them. Great video.

I love dogs but I recently watched my cousins rotty and it was probably the most terrified I've ever been around any dog my entire life. He was 125 lbs, poorly trained, and a total dick. If you want to own a bigger dog breed then you absolutely need to be invested in training. Once again, I love dogs and have owned and been around many. But this rotty was easily an example of poor training. He would come up to me and legitimately put my arms in his mouth and chew. And get more aggressive the more I tried to stop him. He had a super tiny back yard which honestly was a poor choice for a dog of his size too. He saw the neighbors out with their dog one day and I'm sure he just wanted to say hi but his overly aggressive ass busted down the fence and pushed down the lady and about gave her little dog a heart attack. I couldn't even walk by this dogs bone without some attitude and a possible altercation. And don't get me started on sleep. He'd try to be a dick and shove my arms in his mouth and chew when I was trying to sleep too. And once again, he'd get more aggressive when I tried to get him to stop. I know he wasn't a bad dog but he was very poorly trained. My cousin ended up giving him away to somebody they knew recently. Which was honestly a good decision. They have two baby girls in their house and the dog got wild one day and pushed one of them down the stairs. Moral of the story? Don't get a big dog unless you are going to be invested in training properly.

Yes, but how do you teach bite inhibition? I want to get a Rottweiler so I am watching many dog training videos before I do get on. Last time I was in the company of a Rottweiler I was over hugging it, it growled in warning, I ran out the room and don't remember seeing it again. Now I am watching the videos I think the dog might have had an injury, because it was friendly, wanted the hugs but just growled hard, it was used to kids jumping all around her too, even babies were in its company.

My guy dogs definitely have a hierarchy and dominance system. Every social animal does in some way, shape or form and to deny that is just ludicrous. Especially when you can observe the behavior of dogs in a dog park or feral street dogs and see clear parallels to the social behavior of wolves. You can call it whatever you want but dominance is absolutely a thing ingrained in dogs and a leader less dog is an unhappy and unbalanced dog.

My son teased our dog one time with a long grass around its ear, she growled quite aggressively. Same breed, a few years later our dog was eating a bone in the house, my son was lying on the sofa stocking her, which she was happy with, until he moved towards her ears. I’ve never seen her do this before and it was frightening. She jumped up at the same time had his hand wrist in her mouth, my son at that same moment jumped over the arm of the sofa. She let him go but was growling and frothing at the mouth. My son went into what I would call a stance that I can only describe as, instinctual and ancestral, his arms came up above his head with his hands pointing downwards, elbows out and pointing upwards. His one leg came up like a stalk, he was in pounce position to go for the dog’s jugular. It was a stand off, I whilst this is happening have also jumped up and grabbed out tv remote and smashed it down on the back of my dog. It did nothing, she didn’t flinch, so I jumped across the the sofa and stepped in front of her and my son. My dog then started to shake and whimper and back away, she was now really upset and kind of crying. I sad out and she went out, tail so tucked under and crying. She knew she’d done wrong but it wasn’t her fault. The pressure on my son’s hand was huge but it only nicked the skin. No bite, just a tiny puncture. We did take him to the doctors and make sure he was ok. We all discussed what had happened and my son said, No don’t put her down. She slept in his bedroom with him after that. Curled up bedside his bed.
