I failed to draw attention to something else that Chad was doing in this video that further demonstrates how incredible of a musician he is. He is actively listening to the track without the original drums and anticipating the verses, choruses, and bridge, as well as breaks in the song, quiet moments, big moments, etc… All on the spot. In one single take. Without ever having heard this song before. So, literally, he isn’t even thinking at all about the drums he’s actively playing. In short, he’s devoting the majority of his brainpower and effort into listening and choosing what he’s doing on the drums in the next part. The man is playing a VERY busy and pretty complicated drum part on freaking AUTOPILOT.

Did just find your reaction, thank you very much! I love Reactors who can analyse what we see and hear. Maybe you can tell me.. when we understand Geoff´s intentions right, he does nothing without reason. So can you think of a reason why the screen is swaying all the time and out of focus at one point(1:50)? It´s making me slightly dizzy. This cracking sound he added (1:17) reminded me of the old Grammophone we see later. I did not hear the clock ticking before you mentioned it. I enjoyed your breakdown of this much loved song very much. Thank you!🍀

The camera is “swaying”, as you call it, as a videography creative touch. It’s also known as a sweeping shot or angle. It’s a way to make the video feel more immersive, since it captures the subject (Geoff, in this case) from a moving perspective. Regarding the “fuzziness” - it’s another creative touch. To slowly bring in an image from out of focus, into focus, is a way to emphasize your subject (Geoff, in this case). When it’s out of focus, it’s blurry and you can’t see any details. When it comes into focus, you start looking for details - and when it’s in full focus, Geoff is standing right in the middle of the screen. He has your full attention in that moment, visually. Regarding the crackling - yes, that is exactly the purpose of adding it in. To give it that old school touch, the sound of the scratch of a gramophone/record player. It’s a very subtle, yet genius way to further connect with the original cover, as well as the generation of music that this song came from.

I especially enjoy the Voiceplay and Geoff Castalucci reactios and appreciate your insights into the arrangement and performances very much. I also appreciate your showing the videos full screen with you as commentator in the inset, which makes the viewing more enjoyable. May I suggest that you put the inset screen into one of the lower corners of the large screen? When it is an upper corner it often blocks the view of some of the performers. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

Geoff takes a song about feeling hollow and infuses it with a rich warmth and I find it fascinating because there's still an aura of emptiness.

A few things: 1- while it served the purpose of the video, I wouldn’t even consider autotune “pitch correction gone wrong.” I totally agree that software like Melodyne sounds better, but Autotune can be subtle as well. 2- as someone who owes most of his following to being targeted by this “controversy” on a single video I made last year, I completely agree that people need to chill out. Social media singing videos are like mini music videos. Creators aren’t trying to trick you into thinking that it’s live, they’re making an entertaining video with good audio. 3- if you want to only do raw recordings and make a point that the audio is 100% raw, that is actually totally fine and the rest of us applaud you for it! I’ve done that (most of my videos on TikTok have raw audio). The only thing that is not okay is for you to berate and treat creators who do use additional tools like lesser singers because they use tools that you don’t. And this is coming from someone who is too poor to own any pitch correction software! 4- while some music creators are simply too big to get around to everyone’s comments and duets, if you look at the comments sections of smaller singing creators, the big ones are often in there being supportive. I am so grateful for the support of Acoustics, Rockwellacapella, Ebucs, Davide, BigBrev, and many more who have helped me in my journey. People need to act like these other super supportive creators more often. 5- People have no clue how scary it is to start making music content. You have to put yourself in a rather vulnerable position and you don’t know how it will play out. Give people grace on platforms like this! Sorry I just got around to watching this, but love your stuff. Keep it up!

Hoping for you both living happily ever after! 💞 I’m a big fan of Geoff’s and VoicePlay’s music and really appreciate your reactions and breakdowns. And I’m impressed by people with perfect pitch. The original of this song has a bouncier feel. Geoff dialed down the guitar and pumped up the snaps and claps. He gave this much more of a 'groove' or as you put it 'vibe'. I love the way he gave 'Slim' a higher voice. It kind of makes that persona seem younger and more naive. Helps to see how 'Jim' might have underestimated Slim. The guys in the chorus certainly seem to do so when they call him Jack. And I kind of feel as if these are the Geoffs from '16 Tons' gone to the Dark Side.
