I love seeing things like this and wondering what they were... and the history of why if came to be left there... Maybe "Broke down" and then forgotten about... or dumped by someone and as it was out of the way no-one chassed up on removing it.

This is exactly the problem mine has currently on both sills. I'm looking at £2,000 as I need complete new entire sills and for new holes to be drilled and then welded onto the chassis.

Ouch! I ended up selling that 600 to a friend who could weld. He then discovered a hole in the bulkhead and scrapped it 😢 hope yours doesn’t suffer the same fate

Didn't realise you had Fred Astaire tap dancing in your engine bay. ;) Could be worse, the tapping noise could be coming from the bottom of the engine. :O

Wonder how that road and the surroundings would compare to today - almost 30 years later. Fabulous bit of historical footage. I’m guessing the Colt is long gone to its recycling reward? I had a Black Vectra TD then. Pretty sure it’s not around anymore!

Good on your for getting stuck in. The 2nd side looked like you had improved a lot. If you are finishing a panel that get's hidden I find seam sealer does a better job of sealing the gaps and covering welds up and provides better rust protection than filler. Also I would recommend get some cavity wax in there or it will rust from the inside out fairly quickly on Irish Roads, Great that you are saving this car and getting it back on the road.

Why do everyone who try do welding keep tacking in stead on doing small runs with a flux wire mig you have to make sure the metal is clean I'm a welder of 25 years and I have a good mig welder machine £300 and mine is gass/gassless (flux wire)and i do use flux wire on body work as saves me gas but body only your less powerful machine on 0.8 not strong enought for the chassis and you no wat im Going to say about your welding your not experienced welder fabricator you should of had a practice on metal before for starting to do the car but don't blame you for having a go

Even looking at the two rear sills, in the second one your welding has improved. "Good enough" is how I'd say - immeasurably better than what it was like while never going to win a concourse competition (but that was never the idea). A great example to not be afraid to have a go yourself. :D

Sound like it could be the head gasket given it was starting to heat up prior. Anyway its not a massive job to do the head gasket on a TU engine, and they are known for going. I think it would be a shame to not get it done. If I recall you hadn't changed the cam belt, so just treat it as an add-on to a cam belt change.

These engines are known for blowing their head gaskets. Coolant change every 2 years is vital.

Hello! Wow, sad to hear this, usually 306's are far more reliable than today's cars. I think the thermostat housing might be cracked, the O-ring might be broken, the coolant hose might have split, or the temp sensor might be unscrewed. Not sure if there is a coolant plug in the block there, if yes, that might have cracked. I think all of these are easy and cheap fixes. Also, maybe it's a good thing that it broke, now you can flush the cooling system and put in some fresh 50-50 mix of de-ionized water with antifreeze. Do not use pure water or pure antifreeze. Antifreeze is good because it prevents rust but it's not great for cooling; on the other side, water is great for cooling but a horrible rusting environment.

Also, change the thermostat for a new one.

Hi Mate, sorry to hear of your dilemma Ok Does it still turn over / with the starter and run ? no signs of obvious coolant leaks<'. Nwxt step get a pressure test done with your mechanic on the coolant system , just use water dont waste antifreeze ...any sign of goop in the oil dipstixck or rocker cover? by now the coolant should be pissing out of the hole/holes in the cooling circut which might not appear till it reaches working temp.....let us know....I'm have worked on Bangers for decades ! love the fault finding bit but these electronic rotboxes are a nightmare to the man in the lockup !

I did this job on a Peugeot 407 but pulled the headliner card out and used foam backed headliner material and it came up factory fresh. You can use lots of map pins to pin it up like bedouin tent to stop drooping to get you by and you don't get the horrible glue staining.
