Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850) a Skillful Politican became Home Secretary in 1822, and carefully made police reforms without arousing the public fear of intimidation. He believed in crime prevention rather than relieving on punishment as a deterrent. In 1829 Legislation was passed by Parliament to establish the Metropolitan Police in London. A single Force with an area roughly within a circle of seven miles from the centre of London. Sir Charles Rowan & Sir Richard Mayne became the first joint Commissioners with their Headquarters in for Whitehall Place known as Scotland Yard. The police Constables wore reinforced style top hats, and navy blue swallow tailcoats and carried wooden truncheons and a rattle made of wood, which they used to raise the Alarm and call for help. Called The New Police. They also gained the nicknames of Peelers & Bobbies after Mr Peel.

It’s a beautiful memorial. There is an issue though. Most memorial gardens have benches where you can sit and contemplate in quietness. However, where the Animal War Memorial is, is really noisy due to the incessant traffic and really ruins an otherwise beautiful tribute to the ones who ‘Had no choice.’

Careful you might end up paying yourself to somewhere like Jamaica as most of the plantation and Slave owners were Scottish. Hence Campbell being the most common name there as slaves took there masters name. Scotland was a massive part of the British empire and was really into slavery and plantations

I am Scottish, from North Lanarkshire, Scotland and when I think of Scotland I think of Tartan, Bagpipes, Shortbread, Tablet, Whiskey, the Clans 😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂. Honestly, when you grow up in Scotland you eat a lot of Shortbread, your dad drinks Johnny walker, everyone has Tartan in their house even if it's just a blanket over the couch, people aren't lying when they think of those things 🤣😂🤣😂. It doesn't help with the whole Clan stereotype when people in Scotland tend to refer to you by your last name and think you are related to everyone with that last name, for me it's always "Oi! Reid! Do you know a Robert Reid!" I am like "Yeah, I met a atleast 5 x Roberts Reid's when I went shopping last Tuesday" 🤣😂🤣😂🤣. (In case you don't get it 'Robert' and 'Reid' are extremely common names in Scotland). I think stereotypes are there for a reason.
