Does the truss bottom cord have to sit on the outer wall top plate? Or can trusses be shaped like a letter A with the bottom cord half way up to allow a taller ceiling in the center, like for a garage?

How long are those 4 hip rafters? Where do you get that lumber?
@phil-spinelli23 сағат бұрын
easy way to do it , run your ridge long on the hip side, then put the rafter up and draw the line, cut it in place

Hi could I theoretically just cut the rebar to fit in each section so I wouldn’t have to notch out any forms ? And about more then half of my drive is already concrete and half is grass but I’m getting ponding from my back alleyway bc I’m below the asphalt (which is owned by city) so I’m going to raise it another 4 inches and widen it another 4 feet . Should I use bonding product for parts over existing concrete ?

I've been thinking about this for my house. 25x40 3 bedroom 1 bath. I don't think I could flip anything and not put a bedroom at the front of the house.

You can coat the post portion that will be exposed to soil with a waterproof membrane you brush on this will buy you years.

Great video!!! Thanks for the knowledge. I know its an old video, so I dont espect an reaction to my question, but I dont understand how this pyramide roof is supported to avoid it pushing the walls outside. I cant find an answer online for this problem.

@gregvancomКүн бұрын
I like 1/4 of an inch per foot maximum, but you will need to check with your local building department to know for sure.

great video, but I'm not clear how often (if at all) I need expansion joints between sections. I'm also not clear on what my options are for making those expansion joints.

Are the cleanouts in a typical location? I have a small 1 toilet house in concrete slab. Bath tub wall is shared with washer dryer room.

They are usually in walls, floors or under your house if you have a crawlspace.

Good bit of info there. I hadn't thought about flammable liquid absorption. It would help spread the liquid farther. That could wick out liquid and make more vapor I think.

What are your thoughts in a case where during the build of the home there was some settling from the exterior walls to the middle of the home which has caused rooms along the outer edges of the home to have a fairly steep slope before leveling off? Is it possible/acceptable to shim joists between the main beam and the joists to raise the floor and do that in sections from end to end until the floor is level? Thanks!
@gregvancom6 күн бұрын
It's worth trying. Just don't forget that if the foundation is moving, that it could continue to move.
@steveeyler6 күн бұрын
@@gregvancom I'm not exactly sure how to do it. Is it enough to simple place a piece of wood between the joist and the beam and allow the joist to rest on top of it? Do I need to fasten the shim to the beam? If you have some details on that please share them. Thank you! :)

My Brother's house has a massive amount of driveway and many of the separate slabs are lifted and/or cracked. We discovered that there is zero reinforcement and no base preparation under the slabs when we demolished the worst one to replace it. I'm pouring small sections to join my asphalt to my new garage and I'm using rebar but not connected to the adjoining slabs.
@SK-ml3ef7 күн бұрын
Need #57 crushed concrete pieces spread and compacted, then compact paver base or crushed rock with rock sand onto the #57. It's driveable at the point. Then pour right onto it. I only do concrete with that kind of base prep- much better than pouring right onto dirt.

I typically use a chaulk line, much lighter as stringline can sag. Then I set 2 ea 2x4 block on top of sill plate and under my stud then slide the top of the stud along the chaulk line a few inches enough to get a mark. Voila. And I do agree there should be PT vertical plates and sill seal on steps.
