I firmly don't subscribe to this theory. I think it's more reflective of the influence Caroline had over GLaDOS. Caroline never wanted to become GLaDOS, she was just a normal human with normal human instincts and desires. She was not able to have a child before she lost her life and awakened as a machine. Becoming an AI drove her mad. She was programmed to do science, but the biological desire to create life remained. Ultimately, after the personality cores helped to give some semblance of sanity, she continued to try to fulfill the urge through testing. If you look around Aperture Science, there's a bizarre number of things that seem to be sentient. The turrets and possibly the companion cube are the best examples of this. She was still trying to create life, but found her creations lackluster. She took in test subjects as if they were her children, but found that they couldn't live up to her standards. They'd die and were probably stupid and fat and adopted. Eventually, she would find a test that they could not pass. Chell was the first one to pass her every test. GLaDOS realizing this, and setting Chell free was a sign of her growth. She then created new AI to act as her proxy children for the multiplayer. She no longer needed to test humans because she knows they can exceed expectations and overcome insults and adversity. She still desires to create something herself that can meet her own standards of what qualifies as something worthy of life and worthy of love. Or at least that's a rant on how I interpret it.

My condolences. I'm glad you found some solace in this video:) grieving can be difficult and frustrating and intense. In fact, I started making this video shortly after my father died, and while the context is very different of course, it really helped me channel my own grief at the time somehow.
